Report: Frank Mir and Cheick Kongo Look to Rebound at UFC 107

According to a new report on Sportsnet.ca (which was also confirmed by MMA Mania), former UFC interim heavyweight champ Frank Mir is tentatively scheduled to face Cheick Kongo at UFC 107 (December 12, Memphis). Mir will try to bounce back from his crushing loss to Brock Lesnar at UFC 100, while Kongo is coming off his own smothering defeat against Cain Velasquez at UFC 99. The match would support the headlining light-heavyweight scrap between TUF 10 coaches Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Rashad Evans.

We know Kongo hits hard, but if Mir can get this one to the mat, his massive jiu-jitsu advantage could decide the fight. No matter what happens, both guys have a lot to lose in this one. (I wonder if Mir will keep pushing his "cocky bastard" routine now that he’s been completely humbled?) Speaking of UFC 107, Rampage and Rashad will be the subjects of a Primetime mini-series on Spike, showcasing their preparations for the match. Think about it, know it, see it.

And If he doesn't get smart and bring down kongo to the mat and does the stand-up game instead, it will be HIM who gets taken down...permanently.

... but if he can't stand with kongo, he'll just finish it on the ground

real tough fight for kongo, but at least he'll have a chance for a KO when Mir is standing with him

Why would Memphis be any rowder than anywhere else the UFC has done shows? It's not like Rampage is the first guy to headline in front of a hometown crowd, and even cheap seats for the UFC ain't cheap.

I know all the white people are excited about "black on black crime" (as if that phrase hasn't been done fucking to death by message board posters), but seriously, it isn't the fucking 1850s, stop acting like black people will turn in to a bunch of hyenas at the sight of a cheap-looking gladiator montage. Besides, with the UFCs overwhelmingly white fan base, you can bet it won't be a 61% black crowd.

Being as he is either the worst gameplanner in the game or the worst at following a gameplan as well as lost on the ground - This should be a nice stepping stone for MIR..

Kongo is no "heavyweight wrecking machine" unless you're a can... not to mention the beating mir too from lesnar was due to obese ground and pound not from getting kicked in the balls at high speed in rapid succession.

Why this repeated quotes of Mir having no takedowns. I remember him taking down Big Nog twice in their fight, and he seems to be pretty good at getting to the mat, whether you like it or not.

If Kongo decides to keep it standing he will destroy Mir who only has about 2 minutes of fight in him on any given night and no takedowns.

Problem is Kongo is one of the dumbest motherfuckers out there that he might end up shooting for a double once the bell rings
