Report: Tito Ortiz Will Face Matt Hamill at UFC 121, Not Forrest Griffin

("Time it was and what a time it was…")

Contradicting earlier reports that had Tito Ortiz facing Forrest Griffin in a meaningless rubber match, has confirmed that Ortiz will instead face off against Matt Hamill at UFC 121 (October 23rd; Anaheim, CA). The Huntington Beach Blah Blah hasn’t competed since his split decision loss to Griffin at UFC 106, and hasn’t won a fight since his third TKO victory over Ken Shamrock in October 2006. Hamill is coming off his majority decision over Keith Jardine at the TUF 11 Finale, which got the Dean of Mean bounced out of the UFC. Technically, Hamill has won his last four fights, including the Jon Jones DQ. If you’ll recall, Hamill was a member of Team Punishment on TUF 3, so this fight will have extra significance when Hamill beats Tito’s ass. In other UFC 121 booking news…

According to, TUF 10 finalist Brendan Schaub will meet Gabriel Gonzaga in a heavyweight contest. Schaub is coming off consecutive first-round TKOs of Chase Gormley and Chris Tuchscherer, while Gabriel Gonzaga was most recently KO’d by Junior Dos Santos in March.

Patrick Cote and Tom Lawlor are penciled in for a middleweight contest in which the loser may have to find somewhere else to fight. Allow us to pat ourselves on the back; that’s the second match from Armchair Matchmaker: UFC 113 Edition that has actually come together. (Belcher vs. Maia was the first.) You’re welcome, Joe Silva.

Todd Duffee, who was violently de-hyped by Mike Russow at UFC 114, will reportedly be facing Jon Madsen, who is officially 3-0 in the UFC following somewhat dull decision victories over Justin Wren, Mostapha Al-turk, and Karlos Vemola.

The tentative lineup of UFC 121 is…

Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez
Tito Ortiz vs. Matt Hamill
Brendan Schaub vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
Jake Shields vs. Martin Kampmann
Court McGee vs. Ryan Jensen

Diego Sanchez vs. Paulo Thiago
Patrick Côté vs. Tom Lawlor
Paul Taylor vs. Sam Stout
Todd Duffee vs. Jon Madsen
Chris Camozzi vs. Dongi Yang

Ortiz Hamil is a good fight IMO, I wouldn't mind seeing Hamil Griffen fight when Hamil wins. Two slow punchers who only walk forward always makes for good fights especialy since neither of them hve KO power.

When Tito loses this fight his UFC career is officially over. And he would lose to any 205 contender in SF. Mo, Moussasi, Henderson, Babalu. At least he'll have his prestigous commentating career to fall back on.

Gonzaga is a good barometer for any up and coming HW, should be a pretty good scrap.

It would be great to see Duffy actualy hit the mat with a wrassler

Hopefully Duffee has a bit more energy this time. Jon Madsen really shouldn't present much of a problem for him, if his head is in the game.

I literally live on the same street as the Honda Center. I will definitely be there.

If Jake Shields' fighting style transformed him into musical artist, he would be Conway Twitty.

One has a cracked skull, the other has a cracked palate. We're gonna need an interpreter for the post-fight interview no matter who wins.

What do you call Jake Shields with no arms and no legs? Boring.
vengful1- July 22, 2010 at 2:30 pm
That looks like a fucking awesome card! Let's hope no one gets hurt training.

Jake Shields is so boring that they will air a WNBA game in place of his fight.

Thank the good Lord. I'd hate to see Tito-Griffin III. Hamill - Ortiz has me kinda interested.
CAP10- July 22, 2010 at 2:02 pm
Tito vs. Hamill is the battle to determine who has the UFC's worst verbal skills.

I would like to see all the medical scrutiny that Mat and Tito have to go through to fight.....Staph, Syphilis, gonorrhea, Hep, Clamidia,....etc....etc...Could be a lot of money just in tests.
Lysol- July 22, 2010 at 1:55 pm
