Report: TUF Coaching Gig Hinging On UFC 130 Fight With Jorge Santiago for Brian Stann

(Stann’s weekend just got a whole lot more interesting.)

According to a report by Dave Meltzer from his insider newsletter, there’s more than just a win bonus at stake for former WEC light heavyweight champion Brian Stann when he squares off against former Sengoku middleweight champion Jorge Santiago. He’ll earn a TUF coaching gig opposite Michael Bisping if he has his hand raised Saturday night.

Since Chael Sonnen was knocked out of contention for the coaching slot when he was placed under an indefinite suspension by the California State Athletic Commission, the UFC’s back-up plan is to have Bisping and Stann as opposing coaches. Meltzer didn’t say whether it would be another “Team USA vs. Team UK” show, but it’s a good possibility considering Stann’s status as an All-American hero and Bisping’s as a cocky, spit-slinging Brit.

The question is, since the winner of a planned December Sonnen-Bisping bout was to get the next shot at Anderson Silva, does this mean that Bisping or Stann could get a title shot in the near future?

Now the UFC is jumping the shark.

Fitch hasn’t earned another title shot, so bring in Diaz who hasn’t fought in the UFC in years and give him one. And hey, while you’re at it, Joe Silva, Brian Stann and Michael Bisping haven’t had a shot yet. Why don’t you let them fight for one. Forget rankings and stupid details like that.

ummmm what the fuck are you talking about? i was pointing out that shields technically 'won' a round in which he got knocked down. all i was saying is that the judges are still terrible.
as far as a 'moral victory' goes, if u call not getting completely dominated as badly as the other guys a victory than go ahead. 10 rounds, 20 rounds, in the streets, or the thunderdome shields would have got his ass handed to him. the only damage he did was an eye poke. but congrats on that eye poke, jake.

As for the Shields and GSP fight. Frankly, i don't know which fight you guys were watching if you think Shields won more than one round. Shields was fucking terrible in that fight. I haven't seen worst stand-up of a title contender ever. And he couldn't get GSP down once to use his Jiu-Jitsu. I just can't get over that. I don't care how bad GSP looked in that fight, it just makes Shields look ten times worst.

I don't think this is going to happen. Bisping, for sure has to headline the UFC event in Britain and i'm sure that's gonna happen before the next season of TUF concludes. Eitherway, between Bisping or Stann, i'd choose Bisping as the winner any day. His cardio and conditioning is one of the best in the sport. His boxing is always improving (he's like the Frankie Edgar of his division). He's got good kicks. He's got great takedown defense and his Jiu-Jitsu ain't half bad either. Bisping vs. Silva would be a good fight. Bring. It. On.

Wow. If this happens TUF will officially jump the shark.

Danomite. Shields won a moral victory in that fight. If It was in the street or a 10 round fight, he would have won. Obviously GSP is a super athlete but Shields exposed that he can't take a ton of damage. Shields won a few rounds.

I know that fighters can evolve, but does anyone else remember when Steve Cantwell threw the kitchen sink at Stann back in WEC? I mean, sure, Stann went down eventually, but he took a goddamned beating.

I don't think Bisping has the power to hurt him, but Stann doesn't exactly seem like a world beater, either. It would be interesting to see how it would play out, but not in a headlining capacity

I don't see how either of these two guys stand a snowball's chance in hell of beating anderson silva. they just don't have the tools. sonnen seems to be the only one in the division who realizes you dont' have to wait until you are getting your ass kicked before you try to take it to the ground. maybe Okami will understand that but it seems like he's been taking down guys less and less in his recent fights. This TUF scenario creates a problem for me though, in that I want Spitsbing to get his ass kicked by both Stann and AS but it will have to be one or the other.
on an unrelated note, i just saw on yahoo where they released the judges scorecards for shields vs. gsp and it was rounds 4 and 5 that they gave to shields. so there you have it folks, the round in which Jake Shields does nothing to hurt GSP and also gets knocked down with a headkick was won guessed it, Jake Shields.

Best thing about a UK presence on TUF is when they subtitle people speaking English. That shit makes me laugh every time.

Its hard to believe that a Silver Star winning ACTUAL Captain America who KTFO'd The Cat Smasher, could be such an insufferable bore...but there it is. Santiago has even less charisma but neither one of them has a chance in hell of matching wits with Bisping and it might even lead to those few of us who watch TUF to actually feel sorry for Brian Stann.

Who is the Fitch nut hugging fuck that wrote this article? Jon Fitch has done NOTHING to shore up his game since his last title shot and give GSP a run. I'd rather GSP fight Nick AND Nate Diaz before Fitch.

I'd like to avoid another USA vs. UK season mostly for the fact that it unfairly groups other British people in with Michael Bisping. What did these guys ever do to deserve that?
newdeal- May 26, 2011 at 4:44 am
Please not another season with Bisping as coach...hasn;t that guy had enough already. I honestly feel like they feed Bisping people he can beat just because he is their only draw in the UK, its certainly not because he is a great fighter, silva would knock him out far quicker than Dan Henderson did and all Dan did was walk around as Bisping circled towards his power and threw the right until one landed

you should have tri-star vs cesar gracie. done. i'm awesome with ideas. please let me have joe silva's job.

Honestly Stan is a good guy, tuff as nails but on tuff? Like watching paint dry.......Kiss another seasons ratings goodbye. We need to loose cannons on that show.
Aaron A Aaronson- May 25, 2011 at 11:08 pm
Joe Rogan personally debunkedthis story. Dave Meltzer should STFU and stick to writing about WWE horseshit. Maybe Vince should hire him, after all, he seems to be good at making shit up.

Aren't we forgetting something?

Stann still has to fight, and defeat, Jorge Santiago. Granted, Santiago's chin is just slightly north of Kendell Grove on the glass jaw scale but he's still far more experienced and well-rounded than Stann, or anyone Stann has fought for that matter. Let's not forget that our American hero was kimura'd by K-Sos, who's not exactly a contender.

"Meltzer didn’t say whether it would be another “Team USA vs. Team UK” show, but it’s a good possibility considering Stann’s status as an All-American hero and Bisping’s as a cocky, spit-slinging Brit."

Except they already had tryouts months ago which included people that weren't from either of those two countries. And none of the tryouts were in the U.K. I believe.
kmax1940- May 25, 2011 at 9:06 pm
I love the idea! I would love to see Stann KO Bisping then Silva. Booyah!!
just some dong- May 25, 2011 at 9:04 pm
I think Bisping has licked enough asshole to have earned a shot. Stann's sure putting in the effort as well, but he's not quite there yet. Of course, after an entire season of TUF, that shit will be squeaky clean.
MKO- May 25, 2011 at 7:55 pm
Silva's gotta fight someone.
fACE7biter- May 25, 2011 at 7:15 pm
@rWilsonR said it perfectly. If Stann can win two more, or if Bisbing can beat Stann, either one works for me as a contender. If the champ is dominant, you'll either see him continue to be awesome, or see an upset, nothing wrong with either.
Eyes red as Fedor- May 25, 2011 at 6:56 pm
Is that an M-16 on your crotch or are you just happy to win the fight?
RwilsonR- May 25, 2011 at 6:28 pm
The Stann decision makes sense, except from an entertaining television perspective.
RwilsonR- May 25, 2011 at 6:26 pm
Goat's right. The problem is the champs are too dominant, and the challengers keep exchanging wins and losses, so there are no clear cut rankings behind number 1. I'd rather see GSP and Anderson consistently show us their superiority than not see them fight at all.
Goat- May 25, 2011 at 5:50 pm
Those two divisions are dominated by p4p kingpins who have already beat everyone.

Who else would you suggest get the next shot?

Or should they sit their two biggest draws on the sidelines until retarded critics like you are happy enough with the rankings to title-shot ratio???

Get the fuck out of here.
