Report: Zuffa Not Intent On Signing Fedor to the UFC

(Apparently the tipping point in negotiations was Fedor’s refusal to try Pinkberry)

Well it looks like Dana White is sending a message to fighters whose camps think they’re bigger than the UFC.

According to a report by LifeSports.ru, which cites “a source close to the fighter,” Zuffa has passed on a proposed deal with M-1 to sign the Russian management group’s biggest client, Fedor Emelianenko to a new UFC contract.

M-1′s failed dealings with the UFC over the past few years have been well documented, which no doubt left a bad taste in White’s mouth and likely contributed to the UFC president’s decision to pass on locking in the former number one ranked pound-for-pound fighter.

The source from Fedor’s camp said that The Last Emperor’s back-to-back losses and the high salary demands led to the latest contract impasse with the UFC, who recently purchased Strikeforce.

Depending on how Emelianenko does in his next bout, the former PRIDE heavyweight champion may be reserved to finishing up the last three bouts on his current Strikeforce deal without ever setting foot in the UFC Octagon.

To clarify, Fedor still has a deal in place that was signed in Janary to ensure his participation in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, but it’s rumored that the UFC has already begun renegotiating new contracts with fighters in place of the promotion’s deals they had with fighters before the buyout.

Everyone loves Fedor , The GSOAV, the ice cream licking asskicking Russian Fightin machine, but realistically, The last Emperor is done, done, and done. From comments above suggesting casual MMA fans wouldn't even recognise his name to his last cuppla fights, its over Fedor, same as Mirko, are there any Pride legends left who have won their last fight?

Mike Russell....I completely agree with your comment about Snowden. But at the same time Bloody Elbow is like Fox News to me, I have to tune in because when its like hitting my head against a wall and it feels oh so good when I change the channel/page and it stops. what can I say Im a masochist

Maybe ufc should create a masters division like they do in bjj. Only washed up stars competing against eachother. The way things have been going, it would be pretty easy to make fights. You've got royce, hughes, chuck, wandy, couture, fedor, cro cop, hunt, arlovski, Trig, coleman, ortiz, lil nog, randleman.. I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot and I'm sure there will be more to add in the next year or 2. Talk about nastalgia fights. Could even throw in some serious nastalgia by bringing in tank, shamrock, sevren.. did I take it too far?

Oh, and I'm with you drano.. get the reem in ufc asap. Let's see what he's made of.

I say go ahead and sign him and then feed him to the wolves. Let him fight Mir, Lesnar, Carwin or Dos Santos and see what happens. If he wins then maybe he can be elevated to more of a household name with the help of the Zuffa PR machine. If nothing else it's just another name on the roster for some "nostalgia" fights. If he loses he helps put another win under someone's belt and maybe gets them back on a winning path. Lord knows Mir and Lesnar could use a confidence boost. Dunno just my thoughts.

I cannot believe the stupidity of the remaining fedor nuthuggers.
Let his nuts go, hes done. He is what I have been saying he was for years now...done, a nothing.
So many I am reading DO get it, like armfarmer and Rex and others, fedors days are long in the past, M-1 can suck a cock.
what ZUFFA needs to be doing is dragging that big horsemeat eating motherfucker uber REEM to come beat down Brock before he dissapears into obscurity with nothings like Fedor.
Or should we call him FADE-or.
Seoul Brother- March 31, 2011 at 2:24 pm
Maybe he could fight Will Sasso for the role of "Curly" in the Farrelly Bros. "Three Stooges" movie.

ArmFarmer is right, the only potential value left for Fedor is at LHW, after a significant win, and I just dont see him putting it together and contending with the likes of ANY of the UFC's top LHW's. Its just a fact that the sport has passed Fedor by. He may even win a few more in SF but his days of dominating the HW division are OVER. Face it...if Bigfoot Silva GNP'd you to dust, so would Lesnar, Carwin, and Velasquez, hell I even think Mir, Nelson, Schaub, and probably Mitrione would have a shot. Not to mention that after this HW grand Prix Overeem will be in the UFC.

Dont even get me started on a list of LHW's that would smash him.

With all the issues of M-1 trying to collect every last drop of control/power/money from their previous negotiations, this is what they deserve. Once Fedor is done, so is M-1. Good Riddance.

Basically, the UFC offer to Fedor was "bring back the Glorius Sweather of Absolute Victory and we'll make an offer". Problem is, Fedor accidentally shrunk it when he put it in the dryer. Word is he has his mom working furiously on a new one.
HoustonFightFan- March 31, 2011 at 11:54 am
Good riddance - UFC has learned their lesson from CroCop and keen not to pay for a repeat. Fedor is done.

RwilsonR- March 31, 2011 at 11:20 am
Ugh... I've never read Snowden, but if Dojima is right, I barely made it through Babbitt and Arrowsmith without a shotgun in my mouth. Not that Joyce or Kerouac are any better. I think I'll leave this Snowden guy alone, and stick with MRuss.
Dojima- March 31, 2011 at 11:01 am
@Rex13

Do people really say that about Snowden?!

I would have to say that its either coming from people who have never read Kerouac or Joyce and just think they are the cool names to drop. Or its an insult.

If I had to read newspaper stories laid out like Finnegans Wake, or if Cage Potato stories drolled on and on like Keroauc, I would just burn the newspaper and punch my computer screen.

I would call Snowden more of a Sinclair Lewis.

I don't know of the Fedor in his prime. But, I have seen him fight over the past couple years. I agree it would be just a payday to send him off to retirement, and it would make all the Fedor fans sadder each time he fought at HW. LHW, maybe if he beats a SF contender. But, as of now, I certainly wouldn't tune in to watch him again.
Anhonestmoose- March 31, 2011 at 10:56 am
This is not surprising at all. The fact of the matter is that Fedor has no name recognition amongst casual fans. Two losses in a row also makes you pretty much worthless to the UFC, where we've seen people cut after one boring loss.
El Famous Burrito- March 31, 2011 at 10:55 am
I can't quite place who Fedor looks like in that picture.

The evil Col. from Rambo 2?
joe sons balls- March 31, 2011 at 10:43 am
the comments seem split down the middle. im with those who think dana should say 'fuck off' out of principle alone. in fact, id hug danas nuts if he figures out a way to cut fedor out entirely.
ArmFarmer- March 31, 2011 at 10:42 am
If he drops to lhw and dominates a top 5 strikeforce fighter then i would change my mind, but i think fedor will fight a couple more times and retire.
ArmFarmer- March 31, 2011 at 10:39 am
Add in the history the ufc, fedor, and m1 have and its no surprise at all that dana would pass on further negotiations. Just because the guy use to be a god to foreigners and hardcore fans, that doesnt translate to value in the current american market dominated by tuf noobs, casual fans, and people like me that know all about fedor and still don't care. Not worth it.
ArmFarmer- March 31, 2011 at 10:32 am
Bad business? What does dana need another declining star for.. Not to mention that half of ufc fans have never even heard of fedor. It would be one thing if no one knew who fedor was and then he came in and took out brock or carwen in devistating fashion, but thats not going to happen. Hes just gonna be another mirko, getting his ass beat and acting all sad and talking about retirement. Investing in fedor is a waste of time money and effort and dana knows it.
ReX13- March 31, 2011 at 10:32 am
Mike >> What do you think about that fine BE fellow, Jonathan Snowden, and comparisons of his work by some to the prose of a Joyce or Kerouac?
Spicymeatball- March 31, 2011 at 10:25 am
Probably just a ploy to try and get Fedor to dump M-1. If Dana doesn't attempt to sign him that's just immature and bad business.
