Rick Story Is the Odds-On Favorite to Beat Nate Marquardt This Weekend

Due to his wrestling prowess and tremendous momentum in the welterweight division, oddsmakers have pegged Rick Story as the betting favorite to defeat Nate Marquardt in the main event of their UFC Live 4 main event this Sunday. Right now, The Horror is being offered in the -124 to -145 range, depending on where you look, compared to +115 for Marquardt.

That might sound surprising at first, considering Nate’s legacy as a top contender in the middleweight division. Then again, Marquardt will be making his debut in a new weight class, which always raises questions. More importantly, Story has the same grinding style that Marquardt has struggled with in the past. As Rick explained to Sherdog, he’ll be following the Chael Sonnen playbook:

If you watch his fight with Chael Sonnen, it’s pretty evident. He doesn’t have exceptional takedown defense, but he’s exceptional off his back. [It’s going to take] ground-and-pound and a high pace and you name it. In that Chael Sonnen fight, Chael went in that fight with a great game plan that worked for him. It showed a weakness in Marquardt’s game.”

Meanwhile, Marquardt will try to keep some space so he can do this to Story:

Who’s gameplan will win out? And would you put money on it?

story isnt as big as sonnen or as strong as sonnen or as good of a wrestler as sonnen. I am sure rate has been working his wrestling after being exposed by sonnen and Jackson's has plenty of good wrestler to train with. story better hope the cut reduces bates gas so story can win a split decision by winning round 2 and 3 on two judges cards (while Cecil peoples scores all three for nate)

Wilson had weak heart, gas, and most importantly wrestling, which is the ultimate c-c-c-COMBO BREAKER!

My Money's on Nate.
Story is no roided up Sonnen and will not be able to force his will on Nate. Okami and Sonnen are excellent grapplers compared to Story.
On the ground: Thiago Alves was able to take Story down, Nate will do the same and keep him there, Greg Jackson style 3 rd decision.
On the feet: Nate is a better striker, more specifically Story's come forward style plays into Nate's counter striking game nicely. Maybe tko in the 2nd round for Nate, but most likely a grinding 3 rounder with Jackson's influence.

I don't care who you are, that gif is awesome.
Douchey McDoucherton- June 22, 2011 at 8:13 am
that's due largely in part to Marquardt's bitchassness
