Riddick Bowe to Follow in Ray Mercer’s Footsteps…

Sherdog reports that former undisputed heavyweight boxing champion Riddick Bowe has his eyes on an MMA career. The 40-year-old currently retired fighter wants to be the first man to hold major titles in boxing and MMA simultaneously. (Coincidentally, I want to be the first man to win both a Nobel Prize in literature and an AVN Award for “Best Male Newcomer.”)

Speaking from the Xcess Fighting event at the Circus Nightclub last night (Mark Kerr won, by the way), Bowe said he was interested in the sport “because I ain’t got nothing else to do,” and plans on starting MMA grappling training this Sunday.

Wow. Can Kimbo Slice please go and choke this motherfucker out, Ray Mercer-style? First of all, there’s no way Bowe is even competitive as a boxer anymore. And MMA is not something you casually transition into when you get too old to take groin shots from Andrew Golota. Look, Riddick, there’s still a lot of room in the boxer-endorsed grill market — why humiliate yourself?
