MMA Fighter Challenges People to Punch Him in the Face, Everyone Fails

Strikeforce Deathwatch: Roger Gracie Called Up to the UFC

Strikforce’s paper-thin light-heavyweight division just lost another one.

As GRACIEMAG first reported yesterday, Strikeforce light-heavyweight Roger Gracie has been called up to the UFC. While a date and an opponent have yet to be named for his UFC debut, Roger Gracie has hinted that he may enlist Anderson Silva to help him train for the bout. Roger Gracie is currently 4-1 in his career, with his last fight being a first round knockout loss to King Mo at Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov.

On paper, it’s pretty strange to call up a guy with five professional fights who just lost to the big leagues. But it makes a little more sense when you actually look over Strikeforce’s light-heavyweight division. With King Mo on the shelves for a while, there really isn’t much to offer Gracie in Strikeforce. As the age old saying goes: If Gracie fights Ovince St. Preux or Gegard Mousasi in Strikeforce and no one watches, does the fight even matter? At least I think that’s how that one went.

So what say you, Potato Nation? Given Gracie’s past performances, who does the UFC match him up against? And who wins it?

Roger vs Wanderlei Silva seems like a good starting point.

I like the idea of Franklin. I'd like to see Franklin finish out his career in exciting fights. He isn't a big wrestler who Roger stands no chance of taking down, but would also outclass Roger on the feet. For two guys who don't really mean much to the division as it stands now, I think this is an interesting fight that I'd want to watch.

I saw this one tried before, but it was at 185 and Roger went by the name of Demian Maia at the time. It didn't end well for anyone.
BuckWild- February 11, 2012 at 5:19 pm
I heard he was dropping to 185.. If so he should fight Damian Maia.If he stays at 205 have him fight Karlos Vemola or Anthony Perosh. I think Maia has gotten better with his striking and is probably better than Hoger standing, but it would be cool is one of them sub'ed the other.

@ Pen Fifteen - Yep, I am with you after watching his Muhammed Lawal run in. Nothing there but a last name.

when you pick guys off the top like brock they fall the hardest. you don't start fags off with a lodgepole pine, you start them off with a middle finger

they should call this guy boger gracile, saw him fight waterman & get sodomozed to death, the kids ears were both bleeding blood & yellow. sport jiters are a joke, look at maia

Griffin has a fight lined up but a fight with Rich Franklin is a win win for both. If gracie wins he has a W over a former champ and if he looses he can argue he lost to man with a amazing resume so no shame. Franklin wins he beats the gracie name and further pads his resume. He he looses he is only after "interesting" fights at this stage of his career anyway.

Good for Hoger, I hope he does well.
Pen Fifteen- February 11, 2012 at 11:55 am
I say throw the fucker to the wolves. He's 30 years old, hardly what I'd call a prospect at that age. Either he's seriously committed to learning the striking game, at which point he could be a contender, or else he's content to rest on his grappling credentials, at which point he would never make it past someone even at the gatekeeper level, say a Forrest Griffin or Rich Franklin. Given how shitty he looked against King Mo, and how bad Brazilian grapplers have fair of late in the UFC, I don't give him much of a chance to make a splash anyway.
ACE C0ND0R- February 11, 2012 at 11:31 am
I hope they give him a no-name. I don't like it when they take these new prospects and immediately throw them to the wolves.
