Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

Roger Huerta Wants the World, Chico, and Everything In It

(“Where’s the money, bitch? I want my money!”)

We’ve already gone over how Roger Huerta feels underloved and underpaid. But we haven’t gotten any sense of what El Matador thinks he’s actually worth — until now. From via MMA Mania:

Huerta, who has one fight left on his contact after the Florian fight, is far apart with UFC on terms for a renewal. Huerta, who has gotten a new agent, was asking for six-figures guaranteed per fight as well as points on the PPV, in negotiations that haven’t gone well for some time. That’s a better deal then [BJ] Penn, so he wasn’t going to get it. The UFC position is that they groomed Huerta and pushed him hard and were careful of his opponents, with the exception of Clay Guida

OMFG. Six figures is a ballsy request for someone who’s four days away from being sent back to the middle of the UFC’s lightweight ladder. (Remember, he’s currently making $19,000 to show and $19,000 to win.) But asking for points on the pay-per-view take is straight-up delusional. All of a sudden, beating Clay Guida puts you into the Chuck/Tito/Randy level of compensation?

Not only does Huerta seem to have an over-inflated sense of his value — which is troubling enough as it is — but his demands could easily sink his chances of fighting for the lightweight championship. It’s the UFC’s policy to not allow title shots to fighters unless they sign contract extensions, and if the two sides can’t meet in the middle, he’ll be given the Arlovski treatment — a long, involuntary hiatus, a meaningless final match on an undercard, and a “goodbye” without the common courtesy of a “good luck.” So if he manages to get past Florian at “Seek and Destroy,” he’ll need to make nice if he wants a crack at the belt.

Or, he could just wait it out and join up with Affliction, where they literally sneeze at $100,000 base salaries. $100,000 is what they spent on shrimp cocktail for Tim Sylvia‘s dressing room at “Banned.” And goddamn if he didn’t eat all of it.

I say give Huerta the points on PPV, but keep him on the UFN cards... or move him to the WEC.

Although he will NEVER get anything close to what Huerta is asking for him....PROPS to him for having the balls to go for it.

The UFC wants to "groom" fighters like him and Bisping and continually give them easy fight after easy fight after easy fight. But when they want an increase for beating 6 or 7 cans, what does the UFC expect??? Sure the UFC admitted that they are grooming him. I cant wait for Bisping to ask for a big pay jump, and FINALLY hear from the UFC ITSELF how they been "grooming" him to for the purpose of money and marketing ALONE!!! I cant wait to hear Dana White call Bisping a moron who fought the easy schedule of fights available just to help the UFC break into the UK!!!

I'm going to have to disagree with my friend "douchebaggery" here on this one. There's a reason why he's being groomed. Its because he's a great ambassador for the sport to a HUGE hispanic market. He actually has personality and charisma, which sell fights (and PPVs). Why do you think Affliction is going after Tito Ortiz for big bucks. He sells PPVs and he's a draw. Look at Tim Sylvia and Fedor. Tim has fought top competition and was ranked in the top 3 heavyweights for a long time. Fedor is arguably the pound-for-pound greatest fighter of all time and still they aren't as compelling as Tito (to Affliction).

So give Roger his due. I personally think he has shown that he is a strong fighter, but he's also a great personality that the UFC should really try to hold on to.

this kids a brainwashed idiot if he leaves the UFC after this fight. yeah he can make "quick money" somewhere else but he could be a huge star in the UFC. make himself a brand like CHuck Liddell and be set for life. his manager and others are not doing what is best for him in the long run. the opportunities and exposure you get by succeeding in the UFC is hard to equate into dollars but you gotta parlay into other things.

managers know that clients come and go, you gotta milk them asap. Huerta bought a few suits, attends a few bs business classes, and thinks he's a business man now. what a fool
