Rory MacDonald vs. Che Mills Penciled in for UFC 145 in March in Montreal

(If you squint, you can see Simpsons characters in their abs.)

Rory MacDonald will face a fellow up-and-coming welterweight in his adopted hometown of Montreal on March 24 when he takes on British standout Che “Beautiful” Mills at Bell Centre at UFC 145.

Sportsnet’s “Showdown” Joe Ferraro was the first to report the potential bout via Twitter and we have since confirmed the news with a source close to one of the fighters.

A native of Quesnel, BC, MacDonald has been impressive in four UFC starts, compiling a 3-1 record with wins over Mike Guymon, Nate Diaz and Mike Pyle. “Ares” was just seven seconds away from maintaining his status as an undefeated fighter at UFC 115, but was caught by Carlos Condit and finished by “The Natural Born Killer” at 4:53 of the third round and lost by TKO. Since then the 22-year-old, who has been fighting since he turned 16, made a permanent move to Montreal to train with some of the country’s best fighters including UFC champion Georges St-Pierre at Tristar Gym. An injury forced him out of a planned UFC 140 pairing with Brian Ebersole this weekend, and he was replaced by fellow Canuck Claude Patrick on the card.

Although he isn’t as well known as MacDonald, Mills is no slouch himself, having decimated Chris Cope in his Octagon debut last month in just 40 seconds at UFC 138 in Birmingham, England. The 29-year-old former Cage Rage 170-pound champ and Gloucester native also holds a pair of KO victories over DREAM welterweight champion Marius Zaromskis.

No other bouts have been announced for the card, and the UFC has yet to confirm this pairing.

*extends right hand* you got yourself a deal, partner.

WTF is this "friendly wager" bullshit? When did CP become so soft? Tell BG to get the bottles of Ipecac ready!!

@ smellypiratehooker

Ok... I see your point. BUT!!! How about a friendly bragging rights wager on Che vs Rory? Very simple... Rory wins= Everytime I post a comment I will start off with, "All heil smellypiratehooker!" Che wins= You will do the same except insert overeems_needle. Deal?

I'm well aware that Rory shouldn't be a gatekeeper. I guess that I don't belive that Che is on Rory's level or has beat the same level of competition. I would rather see Rory fighting more established, well known names then checking people at the door.

p.s- Che isn't through the gates, he only fought once in the ufc and Chris doesn't work the gates.

Rory will win this. Well hopefully anyway. We need to see mcdonald - condit 2!!!

@ smellypiratehooker:

"Why do they got Rory gate keeping when he should be knocking down the fucking gates." ?????

Mills is through the gates and has set up shop already! Rory's no gate keeper! He did fight Conduit...Remember? I'm excited for this fight. This could be a great one. I like them both but I would rather see Mills get the win cuz I wanna see him take out that idiot KOS!!!

I got the foam idea idea from this (Bruce Paul) cat... of course his website was sold out of Thai Heavy Bags...and yes, since reading this found some velt padding with a cloth backing.
Yeah, the sand is too solid and unforgiving - this kid is built like his mom, thin and spindly. Talks back, with allot of smack - just like her.
Were is that fucking Karma, when you need some answers on "The Cheap", grin.

At first I was all, "Who is Rory Macdonald and why do I care?"

Then I realized he was the guy that made Nate Diaz his bitch, and had that awesome FOTN with Condit.

You can get grain and birdseed fairly cheaply from a local co-op (farming supply store) if you're trying to mimic the old maize bags. I've never seen them with carpet foam, but if you're going to use it make sure it's the cloth-backed kind since it'll rip easily. Remember that sand is a lot less forgiving. I broke both of my feet kicking a sand-ballasted bag that swung back after a roundhouse.

Just ordered a muay thai heavy bag as a gift for the youngest of four boys. He is working on brown belt, and at 10 - by far the best of his older brothers. Here's the bag, nothing special.
Question is I have read that its best to install a 6 foot long section of carpet foam along the inside of the bag, then fill it with rag clothes about half way - weight it, add sand bags above the center line to reach 50 pounds - and allow for some settling, and then stuff and fill the remainder with rags (minus any zippers and buttons that can tear or mar the vinyl)
In the old days we used 50 pound bags of corn seed, but by the time it settled..the heavy was a heavy 250 pounds - too heavy for 10 year old.
I am looking for any better or slick alternatives for filling that bag to about 100 pounds, any ideas???
Also looking for some secure - well built mounting to the standard garage rafters?
Lastly, looking to purchase grappling/gym matting for the 2 of the 6 bays in my garage. I'm not spending $3,000 - $6,000 plus grand for a kid who already goes to lessons, just for some home padded mating.
I don't care that its mobile or folding with vinyl sheath, locking rubber, or industrial mating simple in one big roll much like carpet. I simply some solution so she and the kids don't crack their heads or hit the cement.
Cheaper mating is better for now (I don't know how long they will actually use it for), any ideas on a supplier or where to buy some at a discount?
Figured individuals here, would know best.

I really hope someone wears one of these shirts or hats to the fights.

i just remembered how badly Nate Diaz got tossed around like a rag doll at welterweight.
XENOPHON- December 12, 2011 at 10:58 am
I'd like to see Mills prevail. Maybe he had focused on the weak ground game we saw above.
As Good As Anyone- December 12, 2011 at 10:46 am
Rory wins easily. Che's takedown defense is absolutely horrible with little ground game. Although I'd love to see Che KTFO with a knee, it's very unlikely.
