Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

Roy Nelson Says He’s Fighting Cheick Kongo in February; UFC Says ‘No You Aren’t’

(So, who IS Roy fighting next, then?)

Within the past 12 hours, Roy Nelson went from knowing who he would be fighting next to not having a clue.

The durable UFC heavyweight, who likely retired Mirko Filipovic in his last bout at UFC 137, tweeted last night that he would be facing Cheick Kongo at UFC 143 Superbowl weekend. According to the UFC, however, it has other plans for the French striker who handed Matt Mitrione his first loss on the same card that “Big Country” fought “Cro Cop” on .

The news may have also come as a surprise to Kongo, whose friend, actor Gilles Marini told MMA H.E.A.T.’s Karyn Bryant at UFC on Fox that the fight was set.

So the question is, who should Roy fight next?

Our vote goes to Cain Velasquez.

Nobody has mentioned the obvious match-up for Roy: Chad Griggs.
Robpd22- November 18, 2011 at 3:41 am
If I was Cain's manager I would avoid that match-up like the plague. Shane has the wrestling skills to keep up with Cain and has more than enough power to catch him like JDS did. he is a very dangerous opponent and the bad part is his stock isn't very high right now. Beating Carwin isn't very impressive with him coming off two loss's so he wouldn't have much to gain.
I like them both but the risk for Cain hardly seems worth the reward.

I almost feel sorry for Carwin at this point. Every time I see his fight with Brock I'm more surprised it wasn't stopped in the first, after watching some very questionable stoppages since then. He then followed it up by surviving an amazing beating put on from JDS that only Roy "super chin" Nelson has survived as well?

If Carwin would start to use his wrestling and up his cardio I sill have him maybe in top 5, but beating him right now doesn't prove much.

What about Shane Carwin vs Cain Velasquez??

Roy Nelson fighting the Shrexican is the most ridiculous proposition ever. Roy is nothing but a big sponge and absorbing punishment is all he is good at. Cain is going to put an ass-whooping on him like never seen before and fuck him up good. Which is not to say, that Cain deserves to fight someone much higher in the ranks. Probably the loser of the Brock / Overeem fight.

why the fuck would u put the former champ who lost by getting caught woitha huge hook (i believe he would've have lost anyways) against a guy who is currently Winless against top competition?
If you ask me, id say WERDUM VS CAIN
J3t- November 17, 2011 at 4:44 pm
I feel big country's pain. I call fatassfrank and Ninja after they talk shit and they won't fight me either. Instead I'm left with having to teach handsofpillows what someones "chin" means. SMH for a MMA site there sure is a lot of pussies here
Lesnarischamp- November 17, 2011 at 2:27 pm
nelson just won, not lost. But I still think nelson/mitrione makes sense, so does nelson/kongo tho
intercept440- November 17, 2011 at 2:16 pm
im calling this one right now...i bet he gets to fight matt mitrione since they both just lost, let them duke it out
XENOPHON- November 17, 2011 at 2:10 pm
I am with you, Shrexican it is moving forward. He really does look like Shrek.
For those talking Big Country, that would be great if he could take the Shrexican and extinguish that "Shrexican Pride" once and for all.

oh and BTW, who gives a fuck whose Nelson's next opponent since he's obviously reached his peak, which puts him somewhere in the bottom third of the HW division!
He can't get by upper level Hw's, may win or lose against mid tier HW's, and usually bully's the lower level HW's aound till he KO's them.
War mid level Nelson!

The Shexican nickname came from some random dude(they let get up and ask a question at the UFC on FOX pre-fight press conference) asking Cain "since you don't have a nickname and you kinda look like Shrek, how bout your nickname being The Shrexican?"
Dana asked the dude if he was lookin to get beat up? The crowd laughed, but I'm takin' it serious and from now on when I refer to Cain Vuh-Laz-qwez it will be as "The Shrexican"!!!!!

Roy went the distance with JDS and his BJJ is great. Good fight for Cain, IMO.

Fried Taco- November 17, 2011 at 12:14 pm
Does that mean Roy can stop his groin conditioning?
ExpectJesusBro- November 17, 2011 at 12:09 pm
the champ that just lost VS Roy who barely beat a fading crocop. silly.
ExpectJesusBro- November 17, 2011 at 12:08 pm
How would you figure cain? wtf? Where do you get your logic?
