Rumor of the Day: Chuck Liddell vs. Rich Franklin This Fall?

So said Dana White on the TUF 9 Finale edition of "Inside the Octagon", perhaps loosening on his stance that Chuck Liddell will never fight again. Could it be that one more go-round for the Iceman is in the works? According to an Inside Fights report on potential main events for UFC 103 (September 19th, Dallas), yeah, maybe:

Another fight that has been discussed internally is Chuck Liddell facing Rich Franklin. Dana White has seemingly accepted the idea that Chuck is going to want another fight, and he would much rather have Liddell inside the UFC cage than to have him go and be a huge drawing card for Strikeforce or Affliction.



I see what’s in it for Franklin: He eases back into the light-heavyweight division against an opponent that he shouldn’t have much trouble with — and hey, there still might be some casual UFC fans out there who think that beating Chuck is an accomplishment that puts you in line for a title shot. But if you’re Chuck Liddell, this is not the fight you take if you want to go out on a win. I don’t know what fight you would take, to be honest; are there any 205′ers on the UFC’s roster that would be underdogs against Chuck Liddell at this point? As pointless as it sounded a couple months ago, maybe Liddell vs. Couture IV would be the most fitting sendoff. No matter what the outcome, it would leave fans with memories of Chuck’s past glories, not another depressing image of how far he’s fallen.

The clear smart thing to do is to get liddell training now. rehype the whole liddell kimbo fued when kimbo gets a contract and not saying he will win by any means but make no mistake dana white will give him a contract. Let him and liddell fight. You have the draw for liddell vs slice then you have hype for chucks farewell bout. then you get the hype if kimbo did happen to get a big shot off the he jut got legitamized for beating an actual fighter and that proves once and for all that chuck has lost his game like everyones saying if he cant even beat a chodespank lide slice. fuck you all you all like fishsticks in your mouth your alll abunch of gay fish.

Listen all you fuckin haters you have to be realistic about shit and not just follow on the chuck sucks bandwagon. I am a huge liddell fan and was even before he was huge on the map and i am proud to say that. Liddell has lost a step we can all see that but you act like rich franklin has been dominate. Franklin hasn't won an important fight since tanner2. there is no reason to think that chuck could have that punchers chance and catch franklin with a shot and go out with a bang.

Chuck should be allowed to do whatever he wants. But the UFC should focus on putting on fights that true MMA fans want to see. And I don't think Chuck fits into that category anymore.

If Chuck wants to fight so bad, I say the UFC should take the high road and let him go fight for Strikeforce or whoever. He'll be a draw to those orgs at first, sure, but the luster will soon fade after he gets destroyed in his first fight or two. Then he can do what he should have done immediately after the Shogun fight: retire, open a badass gym and start giving back to the sport.
