So said Dana White on the TUF 9 Finale edition of "Inside the Octagon", perhaps loosening on his stance that Chuck Liddell will never fight again. Could it be that one more go-round for the Iceman is in the works? According to an Inside Fights report on potential main events for UFC 103 (September 19th, Dallas), yeah, maybe:
I see what’s in it for Franklin: He eases back into the light-heavyweight division against an opponent that he shouldn’t have much trouble with — and hey, there still might be some casual UFC fans out there who think that beating Chuck is an accomplishment that puts you in line for a title shot. But if you’re Chuck Liddell, this is not the fight you take if you want to go out on a win. I don’t know what fight you would take, to be honest; are there any 205′ers on the UFC’s roster that would be underdogs against Chuck Liddell at this point? As pointless as it sounded a couple months ago, maybe Liddell vs. Couture IV would be the most fitting sendoff. No matter what the outcome, it would leave fans with memories of Chuck’s past glories, not another depressing image of how far he’s fallen.

this sounds like the iceman trying to prove he can still hang with the best of them and clear up speculation that he's no good any more, its a shame that in all likelihood, its not going to help him. Saying that, I don't think many people saw gsp being tko'd by matt serra, so while most of the time when a fight like this comes up you'd jump to the most logical conclusion, but mma, every so often, has a way messing with your expectations.

Chuck does have a chance against Franklin. Unless he's learned something new with Silva, Ace is a throwback fighter with a very orthodox style that Chuck might just be able to catch. That being said, it is also possible that Ace's best days are behind him, and while Chuck beating him would be considered a win against a viable opponent, it wouldn't be huge, besides the symbolism of going out on a win. On the flipside, the same is true for Ace. Beating Chuck has lost its luster. I don't see this as an obvious smart move for either.

Chuck should be allowed to do whatever he wants. But the UFC should focus on putting on fights that true MMA fans want to see. And I don't think Chuck fits into that category anymore. If Chuck wants to fight so bad, I say the UFC should take the high road and let him go fight for Strikeforce or whoever. He'll be a draw to those orgs at first, sure, but the luster will soon fade after he gets destroyed in his first fight or two.
