Rumor: Nogueira, Mir To Coach Next Season of TUF

(Big Nog insists on riding this gentleman everywhere, and it is his privilege to serve the champ in such a fashion)

An unofficial source tells Cage Potato that the coaches have been signed for the next season of The Ultimate Fighter, and they are none other than UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and former champ Frank Mir.

Of course, this means that Mir will be getting the next shot at the heavyweight strap, and that the title will be out of circulation for a looooong time while they film, edit, and air the show.

This latest revelation might also shed some light on why the UFC has been purging its heavyweight roster. With this development off in the distance, they have less need for guys like Tim Sylvia and Jake O’Brien hanging around the water cooler down at the Zuffa headquarters.

While we’re a little disappointed that we won’t get to see Sylvia coach his own TUF team and try desperately to get them to like him, at least this might help introduce Big Nog to some of the newer fans of the sport. Next thing you know all the kids will be going crazy for the butterfly guard. Don’t think it can’t happen.

even if this bs rumor was true which mmaweekly just crushed, having either Nog or Mir as coach would be a dream for any up and coming mma fighter.

I would be SO pissed if I got stuck on Mir’s team. Seriously, what a shitty consolation prize that would be.

You obviously dont know what u r talking about. Frank Mir is one of the most knowledgeable fighters there is. I would be extremely grateful to be able to learn half of what he knows about mma.

what if Mir loses to Mccully?

ummm has anyone else bothered to notice that this means that the ufc is effectively stripping couture of the title, even after they said they would not release him from it? with all the other titles, they had a unification match as soon as it was able to be put on, but with this one they aren't? i mean, we all knew randy was gone anyways, but if the ufc isn't going to release him from the contract or the belt, shouldn't they at least make it seem like they want the unification fight to take place instead of just treating the interim belt like the actual title? @chet, idk if you saw mir's fights before he was in the accident, but i feel i should enlighten you anyways..... when mir has his head in the game, he's practically unstoppable. he's taken out the "pro wrestler" who everyone seems to forget is a top notch wrestler, broken tim sylvia's arm, knocked out wes sims, and submitted pete williams...... if he comes in prepared, nog's in big trouble. if he doesn't, he might as well go home.

While Nog's on top, the belt is out of circulation whether he fights or not.

it is a great matchup, theyre both masters of the submission game... my only problem is the title is going to be out of circulation for a long ass time which fucking blows. oh well, the division is talentless right now anyways...

I was dreaming for that fight long time ago.. and now it will be real, for me its great.
robnashville- April 16, 2008 at 1:30 am
you have a nice day too, chet

he deserves nothing, he should get what he earns and that's not much since coming back from the injury.... he lost to a UFC wash out in Pe De Pano, got demolished by Brandon Vera..... he has wins over a couple of guys that are absolutely clueless about bjj.... if you are buying this farce of a match-up go right ahead, but don't expect me to....

"beating Hardonk and a 1-0 pro wrestler warrants a title shot? pathetic….. Mir’s getting this shot because he is tight with Joe Silva, not because he actually deserves it.."

Probably, but what have we learned from the ufc? If you're tighy with silva, you get tilte shots, just look at chuck 1-0 and he wants back at rampage if he beats rashad....Bullllllshit

The heavies need a purge anyway most of those guys suck dick for nickels (eddie sanchez comes to mind)
Chet Michaels- April 16, 2008 at 1:16 am
Rob, shut the fuck up.

He had his title stripped after his motorcycle accident. If anything, this is his long overdue redemption. He earned the title and was never given a chance to defend it.

He deserves to have a shot at it once again, no matter who he beat/lost to.

great, hw sucked as it was, but now the ufc is really going to be void of any really good action for several months which sucks more.

Nog speaks pretty decent english. Not perfect but not bad either. He spoke to UFC Fight Club members before 82 and was definitely understandable.
Peterw- April 15, 2008 at 11:59 pm
I cant remember, but does Nog even speak good English, and even so what about his trainers haha, this will be so shit, like you said title is going to be out of circulation for so long if this is true.
