Ryan Bader vs. Jason Brilz, Stephan Bonnar vs. Kyle Kingsbury Announced for UFC 139

(“…and that’s the ‘bleeding robot’. For my next impression — the ‘bleeding hula girl’.”)

Two pivotal light-heavyweight matchups have been added to UFC 139: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos, November 19th in San Jose. First, in the night’s “no pressure” match, Ryan Bader and Jason Brilz will both try to snap their two-fight losing streaks. Bader is skating on thin ice after being utterly ass-handled by Jon Jones in February, then getting choked out by Tito Ortiz in the upset of the year. Brilz kicked off his losing skid with a valiant effort against Lil’ Nog, followed by a far-less-impressive 20-second knockout loss to Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC 129. Winner keeps their job. Loser…well, who knows anymore?

Meanwhile, beloved light-heavyweight vet Stephan Bonnar — who’s riding his first two-fight win streak since 2007 — will be matching his momentum against TUF 8 vet Kyle Kingsbury, who has won his last four, and is starting to look like a straight-up beast. Bonnar most recently out-scored Igor Pokrajac at the TUF 12 Finale in December, and was slated to face Karlos Vemola at UFC on Versus 5, but had to withdraw due to injury. Kingsbury is coming off his decision win over Fabio Maldonado at the TUF 13 Finale in June, where he showed off some nasty clinch-knees but ate a heap of body shots in the process.

@entropee
.
Which one of the two is smarter?

I think that Stephan Bonnar, and Forrest, are basically made men where the UFC brass are concerned. These guys' finale fight really created the opportunity for the modern UFC to exist as it is today. I would bet that even if Stephan performs horribly, he will always have some kind of employment with UFC. If not on the fighting end, some white collar gig will be made available ala Chuck Lidell. I still have Bonnar taking it though, 3rd round TKO.

I don't have any logic to go on, but I think Bonnar is underrated, and Kingsbury is overrated, that is all.

@Sho Nuff
Agree %100. Especially with all these new cards that the FOX deal is going to provide us with. If you are going to bring in new fans from the main stream and get huge ratings you need these guys. They may not ever be champs but they give you what you came to see. Champions ands #1 contenders make up a very small portion of the UFC's roster.

@Get Off Me
.
You convinced me about Bonnar.
.
As for Bader, in his previous two loses, he couldn't even make it past the half way mark in either fight. I hope he gets sent packing to practice elsewhere for a couple years.

I hope Bonnar never ever gets fired, ever. He is a born entertainer. Whether calling the action, doing post event, or fighting, his disturbing facial expressions always entertain. This Carlsberg's for you, Bonnar.

No chance bader loses his job if he loses this fight. He lost to the current champ and an ex-champ. Otherwise, he's a beast. ALWAYS exciting fights.

Who knows anymore? I know. It's not hard to figure out, 3 losses, relatively unimpressive, careful or boring fighter and you're gone. So Bader and Brilz are probably fighting for a job. I like that the UFC leadership is holding true to Dana's statements that they won't cut fighters who bring it every fight. Guys like Hardy, Bonnar, Wanderlei, come to fight every time, give us great wars, and go out on their shields. Why in the hell would you cut those guys to stick to some basic 3 strikes rule?

^ Yeah I got Bonnar too for the same reasons, I'm looking forward to some Bloody Faced victory poses. Bader over Brilz via decision

"Kyle Kingsbury, who has won his last four, and is starting to look like a straight-up beast."

Stephan Bonnar opens at a -200 favorite and I bet on him.
One thing you can't do against Bonnar is gas a get away with it.
Kingsbury loses to fighters that are lower caliber than Bonnar.
If Kingsbury gasses like he did against Moldonado he's toast.
