A week away from his encounter with Fedor Emelianenko at Fight For Japan: Genki Desu Ka Omisoka 2011, it seems like not many people are giving 2008 Olympic Games Gold Medalist Satoshi Ishii a chance to get his hand raised at the Saitama Super Arena. After all, Ishii will be entering just his seventh professional MMA bout, as he currently holds a record of 4-1-1.

However, Ishii’s career decisions speak for themselves. The 25-year-old Judo phenom left his comfort zone in Japan to pursue a full-time Mixed Martial Arts career in the U.S. Ishii become a student of the game by training under Muay Thai extraordinaire Ed Buckley, and touring between some of the most famous gyms on the west coast.

Ishii could easily be labeled one of the most high-profile martial artists currently competing in the sport. The fight with Fedor could serve as a turning point for the decorated Judoka, who has set himself a clear goal of becoming one of the best MMA fighters on the planet. It’s an opportunity Satoshi Ishii will take full advantage of, especially when fighting on his home turf in Japan.

We had an opportunity to speak to Satoshi Ishii, who shared his thoughts about the December 31st date with “The Last Emperor,” and his preparations coming up to the fight…

@ Xeno - me too, I'd love to see Fedor string together some wins.
macreadysshack- December 24, 2011 at 9:35 am
Lol RWilR - exactly. Didn't this guy's ear get ripped off in that fight?
RwilsonR- December 23, 2011 at 4:33 pm
Didn't Fedor already beat this guy back when he called himself Hong Man Choi?

GSoAV=Glorious Sweater of Absolute Victory
.
Im a Fedor fan. I think he can make a comeback much more impressive than - say, Faber.
.
I honestly think he is one of the most dangerous fighters in all MMA. At least in the top 10 dangerous men in MMA.
.
Anyone to bet against him is foolish.
macreadysshack- December 23, 2011 at 1:12 pm
Xeno, not familiar with the GSoAV? I think it's been discharged, anyway. He's going to have to climb up to the top of some volcano and get it struck by lightening or put it on a helium balloon and float it up into the Aurora Borealis. Charge that bitch up then we'll see Fedor come back.

@ArmFarmer
.
I was going to send you an e-mail just now FarmerArm, then I see your finally back online. I have a good record when striking people with a bat in the head, when their back is to me. Yet, I'd like to practice some more. My video camera is handy, where can I find you today?
ArmFarmer- December 23, 2011 at 11:12 am
That would be the greatest christmas gift you could give us, xeno. Go hit fedor.. please. Make sure you have someone on hand to catch the ensuing beatdown on video.
XENOPHON- December 23, 2011 at 11:07 am
@RB
.
Why'd you have to punk before I head out to go xmas shopping with the GSoAV thing....I had to spend 5 mins. looking that shit up. I still haven't ever seen a picture of that sweater.
.
If I ever see him in an airport, im going to club him over the head from behind Moscow style, and sell that fucker on e-bay. Promise.

Ishi 4-1-1 vs Fedor 32-4
Brock 5-2 vs Ubereem 35-11

difference UFC
macreadysshack- December 23, 2011 at 9:37 am
Lol ArmFarmer. We only discuss real numbers here.
ArmFarmer- December 23, 2011 at 9:13 am
Hypothetical question... if the GSoAV fell into the hands of Chuck Norris, AND he drank a glass of Machida's urine.. what would happen? Would it be like dividing by 0?
RB- December 23, 2011 at 9:03 am
@XENOPHON
You're being pretty generous there, considering Fedor has the GSoAV back in his hands, but then again, anything can happen in MMA.
XENOPHON- December 23, 2011 at 8:51 am
Ishii is 4-1-1 in MMA. Fedor is 32-4 in MMA.
.
Ishii has less than a 50% chance if beating Fedor. I'd say even much less of a chance when you add in the fact that Judo minus the Gi is not a a winning combination.
.
Thus, if you factor in the fact that the Japaneses as a whole have fallen off the mark when incorporating other martial arts into their game, I give Ishii a less than 12.5% percent chance.
XENOPHON- December 23, 2011 at 8:44 am
hahaha - now Cage Potato is becoming known as the best MMA portal for gay and lesbians. Since you could not find much in the way of Jewish fighters... are you going to start running special columns on gay and lesbian fighters now Ben?
