Savage Knockout of the Day: Jordan Mein def. Evangelista ‘Cyborg’ Santos Via Hellstorm of Standing Elbows

(Props: Zee2tehPee)

If Strikeforce gave out performance bonuses like their big brothers at the UFC, the “Barnett vs. Kharitonov“ prelim match between Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos and rising Canadian star Jordan Mein would be a front-runner for Fight of the Night. After two entertaining rounds of stand-up, Mein ended the match in the third frame with the nastiest display of standing elbows in MMA history. Seriously, that’s not an exaggeration. Skip to about the 1:45 mark and tell me I’m wrong — this might even give Anderson Silva vs. Tony Fryklund a run for its money. To see the first two rounds of the fight (and everything else from the prelims), swing by IronForgesIron.

Mein’s victory upped his career record to 23-7, and lengthened a win streak that includes victories over Joe Riggs, Josh Burkman, and Marius Zaromskis. He’s been fighting professionally since 2006, and he’s 21 years old. You do the math on that one.

After the jump: Another highly satisfying knockout from the Strikeforce prelims, this one involving former light-heavyweight champ Rafael Cavalcante and Olympic freestyle wrestling silver medalist (and Strikeforce first-timer) Yoel Romero. We set up the video to skip past the first ten minutes of Romero avoiding the fight and taunting Feijao at every opportunity; trust us, we’re doing you a favor. When Cavalcante finally catches up with his dick-headed opponent, it is so, so good.

I dont know who this guy is never heard of him but he has some good boxing. Those punches were crisp. Looks like he leaves himself open though. He will need to work on that a little bit. But who knows he can be make waves someday possibly.

Looks to me like the Strikeforce Canvas is very slippery when watching Jordan Mein's feet. That sucks to fight in. Nasty elbows though, def the worst or best I have seen

This was the awesomest elbow finish evar! I counted 13 from about the 1.48 mark - lunacy! But Jones caving in Vera's face was sweet, Anderson Ong Bak-ing Frykland was crazy. This was a machine gunning of elbows.

I think my favorite elbow knockout is when Josh Burkeman slammed his opponent then delivered three hard elbows to finish the fight. He also did a walk off afterward.

this makes Diaz's win over cyborg a few months ago even more impressive, in retrospect. No wait, I'm sorry, I meant to say it does the opposite of that. If he's not already, I bet Diaz is sorry he pissed away that cakewalk to the UFC title. I doubt he will ever get another shot now that he actually has to face real competition.
Oh, and just to stay on topic, this isn't even close to Anderson v. Fryklund, and this is coming from an Anderson hater. Anderson hit a walk off elbow. This guy threw a bunch of elbows at someone who was covering up. Unless his hands were broken, punches would have been just as effective.

Was that sound Bas punching his microphone in excitement? I love that guy.

Watching the Cyborg's have sex would be like gay porn only more aggressive.

Fine if you are going to cry about it I will just go back to throwing 72 consecutive headkicks.

Man, I guess I was wrong all those times I threw my controller playing ufc undisputed 2010 yelling "who the fuck throws 8 standing elbows in a row to get a knock out!?!? You would never see that shit in a real fight! Bullshit!!!"

I can't blame him, Yoel was confused when he heard the judges announced as Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inab, and Bruno Tonioli. He kept wondering why Feijão wasn't going along with it.

Later in the night Cristiane defeated Evangelista with a hellstorm of dick.
