7 Fan-centric Fights for Anderson Silva Now That He’s Beaten Everyone

Jake Shields

I know some of you hate watching Shields fight, but when you look at the fact that he is the only fighter to have taken a round from Georges St-Pierre the past few years and that he dominated Dan Henderson, why shouldn’t the former Strikeforce middleweight champ get a shot at Silva before he retires? Shields wrestling and jiu-jitsu are superior to “The Spider’s” and if he can take the champ down, who knows what will happen?

Top choices for Silva's next fight:
1) Curt Thomas teaches Silva gymkata, Dana approves putting a pommel horse in the octagon, Silva VS anyone that can't grapple.

But seriously, how can there be a serious conversation about anyone other than GSP or Jon Jones fighting Silva? Personally, I would rather see JJ fight Silva because physically and for the most part skills-wise, the men are somewhat evenly matched. Skills-wise, GSP and Silva are also a match, but I don't think I'd want to see a bloated GSP taking on a man whose larger frame allows him to walk around comfortably at 220.

Jake got beat by GSP now he gets Silva? NOT!

The only possibilities in this list (because his mates won't fight him) are:

King MO
Hector Lombard

Mousasi already got dominated by King Mo so he's out.
GSP makes sense but the fight would suck with 2 guys running and dancing from one another.

Bones is the true superfight (if he gets by Rampage which I'm not convinced).

never ask gsp to fight anderson even in a catchweight.
have silva go up lhw again and face jones.

Is the weakness of the beginning of the list because you needed a longer list or because you are a fan of boring wrestlers?

Here's the list.
1. Jesus
2. Steven Seagal
3. James "The Colossus" Thompson
4. Giant Silva
5. Michelle Bachmann
6. Hurricane Irene
7. Gargamel from The Smurfs

Alistair Overeem. I don't care about size difference. Let Overeem eat all the horsemeat and nandrolone he can handle, and Anderson will still beat him. This would show all the people who say Overeem is the best striker in MMA due to a K1 title that those titles don't translate.
KarmaAteMyCat- August 31, 2011 at 8:08 am
Gsp has no business fighting Anderson now with that out in the open and the fact that Anderson SHOULD NOT HAVE TO GO UP IN WEIGHT. I want to see Anderson Silva vs Hector Lombard!!! I wouldn't mind that fight at all.
humperdinkal- August 31, 2011 at 7:05 am
IF GSP were to fight Silva, GSP would take him down at will, be quicker than Silva before he could even do anything to GSP, and it would come to a decision win for GSP>
I don't know why many of you guys on here, all who know your MMA well feel GSP/Silva wouldn't be a match worth doing.
Silva, while not overated, does not do well against top wrestlers.
GSP is a MMA artist, and I can't see Silva catching GSP with a one kit KO, or get him in a "Rich Franklin" ass beating clinch.
Best fight that Dana bald ass White can do would pit Shogun up with Silva. Shogun has lost fights, hence putting him in a position where he could possibly lose the the champion, is much less of a risk than having Jones and GSP vs. Silva.
My bet would go towards Shogun beating Silva. I still think that Silva vs. Belfort would be a good rematch since Belfort never had the chance to react, or use his fast ass hands to counter Silva's.
For now, Belfort, Chael, or Shogun would and should be the next options for Anderson to fight.

Worst list ever. Honestly, Shields? The guy couldn't take GSP down, what makes you think he can take Silva down? I think there are only two choices right now, GSP or John Jones. But John Jones has to prove himself against the likes of Rampage (which will be easy enough) and Machida (more of a test). GSP vs Silva would actually be a fun fight to watch seeing how GSP is a such a craftsmen and will not give into Silva's mocking tactics so easily. Also, his jabs and Superman punch actually might connect. Make it happen, Dana, i say.
Actually, another guy who would make a good fight, but who's gonna take a while to mature as a fighter is Rory McDonald. The guy's a huge welterweight and every time he comes to fight he's more more impressive. He is on the track of becoming the next GSP, if not bigger (no coincident that he trains with the current champ as well). Give him two years i say and he'll be set to take on the middle weight division, especially if GSP continues his dominance over the welter wights. For now, GSP seems like the best option.

Paul Harris is lame, and Jon Jones needs to fight at HW. I am not interested in Jones vs Silva for the same reason Silva vs GSP is not interesting, huge size discrepancy. Anderson has never missed weight and rarely shows any sign of fatigue. He is fine at MW. Only oe of those fights I would want to see is Mooseassey.

fatbellyfrank Says:
.
I see you don't like the use of cowardice.
.
There is no one in Anderson's weight division inside the UFC that is worth paying to watch at this juncture. If Silva is that good, he needs to move up to where all his peers have already gone.
.
Silva has already proven he is the man at 205, to be a man amongst men, he has to go big or go home. Anderson has more consecutive wins than BJ or Couture.
.
Yet, unless he wins multiple belts in multiple weight divisions, he will for ever have to live with his name written below BJ and Couture.
.
Silva could eclipse both in one fell swoop. If I know this, and others know this is true, then why hasn't he demanded it? I am resigned to simple cowardice.

Cowardice is the perceived failure to demonstrate sufficient robustness and courage in the face of a challenge. Under many military codes of justice, cowardice in the face of combat is a crime punishable by death (cf. shot at dawn).
.
The term describes a personality trait which is viewed as a negative characteristic and has been shunned and disdained (see norms) within most, if not all cultures, while courage, typically viewed as its direct opposite, is generally rewarded and encouraged.

Cowards are usually seen to have avoided or refused to engage in a confrontation or struggle which has been deemed good or righteous by the wider culture in which they live.
.
On a more mundane level, the label may be applied to those who are regarded as too frightened or overwhelmed to defend their rights or those of others from aggressors in their lives.
.
That's my story, and I'm sticking it to him. BJ and Randy know what courage is all about...and they will be remembered for it, whereas Silva will always be remembered as the SAFE fighter.

Face it, he is smug for fighting nothing but cans. Cowardice by another means.

My thoughts
Shields, King Mo, Jacare, wouls all be murdered quickly
Mousasi, Lombard, I'd watch those fights but bet on Anderson
Sogun, An in form Shogun would be a great opponent for Silva, both nasty strikers, both have good Ju Jitz. Rua a slower version of Belfort? what are u talking about, Rua is far the superior of Belfort, more versatile standing, wicked submissions, more heart and beaten far better fighters than Belfort.
GSP, Jones are the fights that the fans want and IMO the fights that are the most appealing
HateKozJustCuz- August 30, 2011 at 8:45 pm
Honestly, after reading the first few suggestions I thought this was a joke- as in the hahaha that's funny kinda way. And after finishing the list I'm still curious. Are you being serious here? Jake Shields, King Mo and Mousasi? This list and entire write-up is a joke. Silva would destroy everyone on it except for possibly Lombard, and that fight has ZERO chance of ever happening. If you meant to be real, how is Bones Jones not listed? That's the only fight at light heavy I have any interest in seeing.
superflat- August 30, 2011 at 8:08 pm
Lombard is a bit like Overeem, isn't he? Looks like he could steamroll anyone ala Mike Tyson but hasn't faced the competition. I'd love to see Lombard take on Nate the Great (which is plausible), and if he wins that I'd put him at the top of the list. At Middleweight, that is. Silva vs. Jon Jones is way more intriguing.

P.S. Spider would wreck Shields before we took the fight to the ground.
ragner- August 30, 2011 at 8:05 pm
no offense brah but ur list is garbage.jake shields would just lay.mousasi cant even beat jardine on short notice.
gimme some bones n some chael mathafukin sonnen homie

Oh I second Gus Johnson! Great fucking call!
Fire in "The Legend" Frank Shamrock and coat Andersons hand wraps in glass shards and you got yourself a stew goin Baby!!!!
bdub412- August 30, 2011 at 5:10 pm
Screw Silva vs. Bones, I want to see gus johnson get a shot at the belt. Lipstickweight champ
Pen Fifteen- August 30, 2011 at 4:09 pm
That Mousasi is grossly overrated should be apparent from the fact that a .500 welterweight like Cyborg Santos and a UFC flunkee like Denis Kang are listed among his 'major wins.' Mousasi is a can crusher, pure and simple. Sure, he has a guady record, but maybe a half-dozen of his wins at best are against UFC caliber competition. The dude hasn't beaten a real opponent since KOing Babalu 2 years ago.
FightZen- August 30, 2011 at 4:06 pm
Rua is just a larger but slower version of Belfort.

This. No chance Rua will keep up with Anderson. I still maintain that Belfort is a good match up for Anderson. Give him another shot.

Oh, and Anderson will kill Jon Jones. I've never been a hue fan of Silva, but there's no denying what's fact. Dude is amazing.
fatbellyfrank- August 30, 2011 at 4:06 pm
being a dominant fighter in a weight division, and staying in your weight division is not cowardice, and i dont know any fight fans who go along with this theory, if you da man, let others try and come up to your standard
Koeikan- August 30, 2011 at 3:38 pm
This article sucks dick for rent.
BCRealist- August 30, 2011 at 3:33 pm
100% with all those naming Jon Jones. He is the same size as Anderson (Not 4 inches shorter and 30lbs lighter [GSP]), and the only one whose 'style' matches up at all.....

GSP walks around at 190, Silva @ 220+. Just a lame matchup if you ask me....
RearNakedSpoon- August 30, 2011 at 3:28 pm
Stick Jon Jones on the list and make them all happen right now on free view.
I think we all had enough of waiting so many months for an undeserved number 1 contender who we already know is going to lose.
mt59801- August 30, 2011 at 3:20 pm
1. Chael Sonnen

2. A live Tiger

3. The entire scrap pack @ the same time

4. Gus Johnson
Fatty McDickbutts- August 30, 2011 at 2:58 pm
