Shamrock and Abbott Earn a Combined $45,000 for Sad Freak Show

("I finish sandwiches!")

As strange as it sounds, there was a time when Tank Abbott could demand $126,000 to fight for less than a minute. Unfortunately, his market value has slightly decreased since then. MMA Junkie reports that the veteran brawler received $20,000 for his 29-second completely-illegal knockout of Mike Bourke at last Friday’s Wargods: Valentine’s Eve Massacre — putting him second on the event’s salary list after Ken Shamrock‘s $25,000. Abbott’s opponent Mike Bourke earned $5,000, while Shamrock’s opponent Ross Clifton collected $4,000, which he plans on donating to a good cause. If anybody cares, the rest of the numbers are after the jump. The show drew 2,805 attendees for a $90,745 live gate, $82,150 of which was paid out to the fighters. In other words, the promoters earned less than half of what Tank Abbott did. Slim profit margins of the MMA biz, people…

Mike Moreno: $5,000 (includes $2,500 win bonus)
def. Gary Padilla: $2,500

Isaac De Jesus: $3,500 (includes $1,000 win bonus)
def. Ashe Bowman: $2,000

Rick Reeves: $3,000 (includes $1,500 win bonus)
def. Nate James: $1,500

Josh Haynes: $3,000 (no win bonus)
def. Rafael Del Real: $2,500

Zoila Fravsto: $1,250 (includes $500 win bonus)
def. Karina Hallinan: $750

Ron Kessler: $2,000 (includes $1,000 win bonus)
def. Darrin Freeman: $1,250

It was an alright card. I was always a big fan of Ross Clifton. Also, I can't believe that Zoila Fravsto only got $1250.00 that guy is worth a lot more.

I think the promo should focus on getting all of the "past their prime fighters of old" . Maybe make it a landing place for hall of famers! Bring back the Beast ! Bring back Kimo (after he serves his community serivce) Bring Back Royce ! Bring Back .... ummmm aahhh... Frank to fight his bro Maybe you guys can think of other old timers that should fight each other? I think there could be a good niche market for this ..

I would much rather watch Ross Clifton dominate $4,000 worth of KFC than watch him fight again.

The World's Most Danger-less Man is still in pretty good shape. I'm sure his cardio is crap, but he still has some bulk. I can't for the life of me figure out why Tank Abbott was paid at all or declared a winner with two illegal shots. He was 5 seconds shy of pulling a bat out of his shorts when the guy went down.
  17. Obvious Guy Says:

    Fri, 02/20/09 - 08:48

@ Victa I think u already missed that show. I think it happened right after he hit puberty, and it was actually $4002.74 worth of KFC because he also bought a Diet Pepsi.

Tank and Ken should fight at UFC 100 as the co-main event. And by that I mean outside in the parking lot, while Georges pounds Alves.

I can not believe how much hate there is towards this event. It was a great show. They are all still PROFESSIONAL fighters guys. They all have amazing skills.

@ Goog "He was 5 seconds shy of pulling a bat out of his shorts when the guy went down." Bat? I thought it was his weiner... Thanks for clarifying!

Using second rate UFC vets to promote lower class orgs is too common. There are so many shows up here in Canada that try to draw you in with "Shonie Carter as special guest ref" or "UFC great Pete Sell takes on local knock out artist". It's rediculous and shows just how mainstream MMA has become. Dumbshits will come and watch these events for the washed up goons. MMA just needs to be a little more mainstream until more educated fans realize that this is all BS and boos them. Paying to watch up and comers should be the main draw.
  24. Goog Says:

    Fri, 02/20/09 - 08:58

@Kadumel... While I agree with you in principle, uh... what exactly is Ross Clifton's amazing skill?
  25. Kadumel Says:

    Fri, 02/20/09 - 09:03

Goog, he has amazing heavy hands. Just because he "looks" fat, doesn't mean he has not skills. Look at Butterbean who is one of the greatest fighters of all time, he "looked" fat but had/has the ability to knock out King Kong. Consider yourself schooled in MMA.
  26. Goog Says:

    Fri, 02/20/09 - 09:19

    Okay. Thank you.
  27. Mister Obvious Says:

    Fri, 02/20/09 - 09:20

@ Kadumel He doesn't just "look" fat. He is fat. And no one in their right mind would say Butterbean is one of the greatest fighters of all time. Who cares if he has the ability to knock someout out. He better, considering he's the size of a blimp. Have u ever heard of Kimbo Slice? Is he also one of the greatest fighters of all time in your book because he can knock someone out? Consider yourself schooled in common sense.
  28. Goog Says:

    Fri, 02/20/09 - 09:21

A woman with Down Syndrome hit me in the back of the head by accident with an aluminum softball bat years ago. Knocked me out. She's one of the greatest fighters of all time.
