Sherk vs. Tibau Added to Nearly-Complete UFC 104 Lineup

(Props: xkingkongx)

The UFC has confirmed ten fights for UFC 104 (October 24th, Los Angeles), making the Machida vs. Rua headliner official, as well as adding a main card bout between Sean Sherk and Gleison Tibau. Sherk is coming off a disappointing unanimous decision loss against Frank Edgar at UFC 98, while Tibau most recently lost a controversial split-decision against Melvin Guillard at the TUF 9 finale in June.

Unfortunately, Sherk vs. Tibau comes at the expense of two other fights that are probably more worthy of main card status. Currently slated for the undercard are TUF 8 light-heavyweight winner Ryan Bader vs. Eric Schafer (who are both riding two-fight win streaks in the Octagon) and Yushin Okami vs. Chael Sonnen. Yes, Okami is on the undercard once again, despite his current three-fight streak against Jason MacDonald, Evan Tanner, and Dean Lister. My God this disrespect. You know, UFC, if you’re not careful, you’re gonna lose him.

The updated UFC 104 lineup is as follows…

Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio Rua (for light-heavyweight championship)
Sean Sherk vs. Gleison Tibau (LW)
Joe Stevenson vs. Spencer Fisher (LW)
Anthony Johnson vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida (WW)
Ben Rothwell vs. Cain Velasquez (HW; expected for the main card, but not yet confirmed by the UFC)

Antoni Hardonk vs. Pat Barry (HW)
Yushin Okami vs. Chael Sonnen (MW)
Jorge Rivera vs. Rob Kimmons (MW)
Ryan Bader vs. Eric Schafer (LHW)
Kyle Kingsbury vs. Razak Al-Hassan (LHW)
Stefan Struve vs. Chase Gormley (HW)

why is sherk vs. tibau on the main card with the okami sonnen fight left off? Wow joe stevenson is gonna lose again...guess he's just gonna play gate keeper for the division. As for shogun, why is he getting a title shot again? He lost to forrest, won a shitty one over the senior citizen of gnp, and knocked out chuck "the glass jaw" liddel. but i digress.

I'm not quite on the Machida bandwagon yet either. Anyone that almost gets triangled by Tito Ortiz isn't worthy of quite so much praise. Also agree that this card while decent, isn't that great by any means. The main event is sweet but the only other fight that peaks my interest is on the undercard (okami sonnen)

@Jay Smith

Forgot about that submission.

@831 Son

I actually like a multi-dimensional fight, I like it when it goes to the ground, I actually love watching Maia. But, a KO is even better. I don't go and hope for a KO though, unless it's two good strikers. Go fuck yourself.

I don't give a shit if you don't think Machida's style is boring. "This is MMA son" OH REALLY!?!? GODDAMN I THOUGHT IT WAS BOXING THE WHOLE TIME!!

You guys are fucking morons for thinking that all I want to see is two dudes stand and bang. Get your heads out of your asses and stop assuming stupid shit.

The fact of the matter: four of his seven fights have gone to the judges. I've watched all of those fights and came to the conclusion that he didn't start to become entertaining until the last two.

Fuck "The Machida Era"; he hasn't even defended his belt yet. He's a good fighter, but I'm not hopping on his bandwagon of douchebags and old faggots like the rest of you.
Kadumel- August 26, 2009 at 2:11 pm

Dude I logged into just to agree with everyone else telling you how fucking dumb you are. This is MMA son if you want to watch two dudes only punch each other then go watch boxing. I have never thought Machida was boring to me his style of fighting is interesting to watch. So what he doesnt stand there and get punched in the face. Would you?
831 Son- August 26, 2009 at 1:38 pm
Dumb ass Bovice, it aint all about KO's retard. Machida has wrecked everyone hes faced whether it be decision or a knockout. Snorefest? You are one of those dudes that whine and shit when there isn't a KO in every fight I bet.
Jay Smith- August 26, 2009 at 1:25 pm
@ Bovice
Knocked out the LHW champ and took his belt. Destroyed Silva. Wrecked Tito. Smashed "Terry Soak A Jew". Finally finishes two fights huh. Everyone is just givin him his props. You will too will *swinging pocket watch back and forth*
Bovice- August 26, 2009 at 1:03 pm
Shogun all the way. I'm never going to ride that fucking bandwagon of Machida's; he finally finishes two fights and everybody's on his nuts...before that, he was a snorefest. Get the fuck out.

@titos head

Figures you'd have a name like that, you're probably the same type of douche who cried about anderson after leites and cote and then jumped back on the suck his balls wagon after his fight with forrest.
TheKCB- August 26, 2009 at 10:10 am
I think this is a PPV worthy card; I'm a Spencer Fisher fan but I also like Stevenson so it's tough who to root for in that one. The only thing that's not worth the PPV is that cheesy poster.
imakeutap- August 26, 2009 at 10:00 am
Shogun of old is back and if so...well then god have mercy on all of us
831 Son- August 26, 2009 at 9:44 am
I agree with the competent people here, Shogun is going to get worked.
drummer- August 26, 2009 at 9:19 am
I've been a Shogun fan for a long time, and I believe that Shogun has the balls and the skills to make this an exiciting fight. But Lyoto is on a totally different level, and inless Lyoto falls prey to a swollen ego (ala GSP vs Serra 1) then Shogun is going to get smashed.
Dubya- August 26, 2009 at 9:19 am
Anyone that doesn't think that this card will be exciting is a fucking scrub. The only fight that isn't worth paying to watch is the Sherk Tibau fight. It'll probably be decent, but I'd rather see Okami slap Sonnen around for 15 minutes.

Okami needs to get his shot at Silva after this fight. Will he beat Silva.. most likely not.. but he deserves his shot. At least he will go toe to toe with him. He's done it once... and he'll do it again.

@agentsmith.. get off the junk and clean up your act son.
One Two- August 26, 2009 at 8:42 am
pat barry should do the techno viking on the way to the ring, Shoguns gonna beat machios ass and the card is decent but sherk and tibeau should deffinately not be on the main card.
Jay Smith- August 26, 2009 at 8:15 am
Nice Squirrelnuts!

Yall know what the fuck I meant!!!
Squirrelnuts- August 26, 2009 at 8:08 am
Razak Al-Hassan is fighting again? sweet, the UFC must've grown him a new arm after he got the last one ripped the fuck off.
Jeffro- August 26, 2009 at 8:05 am
By the comment he just made, I really think that is Tito's head plucking away at a keyboard. Agreeing with Smitty, bashing Shogun, and saying that Machida is still boaring are all signs that you are in desperate need of a 12 step program.

The matchmaking on this card is epic, and if you don't realize it, I won't waste my time trying to explain.
Titos Head- August 26, 2009 at 7:54 am
I have to agree with agentsmith on this one. Yes the Main Event is good...but not great. Shogun has had a couple lack-luster performances....and I love Machida, but damn the boy just isnt fun to watch. Hopefully the Ben Rothwell vs. Cain Velasquez fight makes the main card, I would like to see who gets a shot at Brock. Not to interested in watching Sean "T-Rex" Sherk fight. Oh well
MyFightWiffaCheeto- August 26, 2009 at 7:50 am
I just hope that rumor about the Undercard being aired on Spike or whatever before the PPV comes to fruition. Card has a lot of up and coming young talent... plus Yushin Okami destroying Sonnen.
Peppermint Nightmare- August 26, 2009 at 7:48 am
Well, Tibau and Yoshida will be unemployed on October 26th.
Sucks, I hope they both win, but they won't.
Bad, bad, bad matchups for both of them. I'm guessing that's not an accident.
Jay Smith- August 26, 2009 at 7:44 am
@ agentsmith
Dude, you're trippin. This is an awesome card. I can't wait to see which undercard fights make it on the ppv.
agentsmith- August 26, 2009 at 7:41 am
Apart from the title fight, most of the rest of this card is more suited to a Fight Night than a PPV.
Jugger- August 26, 2009 at 7:34 am
Sherk fighting is California? Wow, how much did they have to bribe him to get him to do that?
