Former PRIDE muay thai specialist Cyrille “Snake” Diabate has confirmed he is heading to the Land of the Free and Home of the UFC. The French fighter will temporarily train with Team Quest and Dan “Hollywood” Henderson in Temecula, California. He is 12-6-1 and was inked to a deal with Ken Pavia back in October.
“This is exactly the kind of opportunity I need,” says Diabate. “America is where everything is happening right now, both fight-and training-wise.”
“In the past I haven’t had to worry about top level wrestlers trying to take me down. But now [with upcoming fights in American promotions], things will change.”
Diabate picked a great place to train since he has revealed he wants to work on his defense and wrestling. Dan Henderson is two-time wrestling Olympian and former PRIDE middleweight champion.
You’ll recall that Snake gave Mauricio “Shogun” Rua a run for his money before PRIDE went to sleep forever. The loss to Shogun was his only one in his last six fights. His last fight was a win at Cage Rage 21 when he submitted Ryan Robinson. He was slated to step into the cage on this side of the ocean for the IFO back in December at “Fireworks in the Cage IV”. He instead broke his ankle before it could go down.
If Henderson brings some mean ground work to Diabate’s game, he could start rocking some dudes. His stand up skills are great and he’s definitely making the right moves to become a total package.
