While Michael Bisping’s dominant win over Jason Miller this weekend put the Count even deeper “in the mix” at middleweight, he still won’t be next in line for a title shot. The UFC confirmed yesterday afternoon that despite conflicting reports, Chael Sonnen and Mark Munoz will indeed be facing off at UFC on FOX 2 (January 28th, Chicago), with the winner earning a shot at Anderson Silva‘s coveted 185-pound belt.
Sonnen won his first post-suspension fight at UFC 136 in October, choking out Brian Stann in the second round. Last week he hosted the World MMA Awards, and successfully charmed Ronda Rousey into giddiness on the red carpet. Munoz has won four straight fights in the Octagon, most recently scoring a corner stoppage TKO over Chris Leben at UFC 138.
Sonnen and Munoz will join UFC on FOX 2 headliners Rashad Evans and Phil Davis in a press conference this Wednesday at the United Center in Chicago to discuss the event. We’ll see if Munoz brings up the fact that Sonnen wrestled him dirty back in college.

If Sonnen Can't get Munoz down, he may have a problem...same as he said against Silva. If I can't get him down, I get my ass kicked. Munoz has the punching power advantage, but chael has a head full of rocks. I think the munoz fight makes sense, even if only a little. Sonnen rolled through Stann like it was his jay oh bee. He needs another fight that will test his wrestling before he faces silva again.

Sonnen could not get out of Silva's guard in their first fight, and took more damage in Silva's guard than he delivered. If you had not seen the fight and tuned in when the decision was announced, you would have thought Chael got beat up before being submitted by the champ. Silva looked untouched and Chael was busted up, but it's amazing how people give Chael all the credit for staying inside his BJJ black belt opponents guard(300 punches landed...lol) ultimately losing from that position after not being able to advance with his wrestling skills.

Beating a drugged up Leben does does not impress me much. Even if Munoz does get passed Sonnen by some lucky set of circumstances what makes anyone want to see him fight Silva? The man couldn't see a Matt Hamil head kick coming at him for christs sake and he hasn't displayed good enough wrestling to convince me he could pull a Sonnen on Silvia.
Time to see if Chael really does deserve another shot? Come on man name anyone else in that division other than chael that would give Silva a good fight? Don't say Bisping because he would get smashed. Chael has the best shot.
Munoz had a hard time with Aaron Simpson so i dont see him being able to top Chael who would crush Simpson. But we will see. Either way i think Bisping should have to fight Vitor before SIlva
