Spike TV Playing Hardball With UFC; Dana White is Not Happy

(A woman scorned always has her revenge.)

It looks like Spike TV isn’t going to let the UFC walk away from their longtime liaison quietly.

Like a woman scorned , Spike will attempt to sabotage Zuffa’s burgeoning relationship with Fox by counter-programming the network’s first UFC event featuring a heavyweight tilt between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos with a three-hour special “Dos Santos vs. Velasquez: Unleashed” series of shows according to MMA Junkie. The November 12 Unleashed Marathon will begin at 9:00 just as Fox’s inaugural UFC event is set to start.

According to the report,  Spike owns the broadcast rights to the UFC library through 2012, and unless Zuffa buys back the rights the network will likely continue to counter-program Fox’s events for the next year. The catch 22 of the situation is that unless the UFC buys back the rights, Spike cannot air any other promotion’s events, which explains why it is only airing Bellator’s prelims on its website. The move could be a testing ground to see if there’s enough interest to move Bellator’s weekly events to the rotation when the UFC agreement expires.

Needless to say, Dana White is not impressed. During an interview he did with MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani last week, the UFC president pulled no punches when discussing the move by Spike to air Bellator fights on, but added as a last f*ck you that Zuffa has no intention of buying the rights back from Spike.

“UFC programming will be on Spike in 2012. It will continue there. When you look at what I call ‘the spirit of the deal,’ [counter-programming] is the wrong thing to do. In my opinion, it’s Spike not being honorable. They’re not being honorable and they know. [Spike president] Kevin [Kay] knows; [Spike senior vice president of sports and specials] Brian [Diamond] — all the guys who have dealt with me at Spike TV — I’ve been nothing but honorable with them,” White explained. “Everything that I did was to build the UFC and Spike TV. I’ve been a fantastic partner. Whatever they needed from me I’ve done for them and helped them get to where they are today, just like they’ve helped us get to where we are today. And what they’re doing, if that’s the case, and they’re running [Bellator fights]  on, that’s not the spirit of the deal and they are being 100 percent not honorable.”

cry me a river dana. i don't feel bad for you at all. if the shoe were on the other foot and spike had somehow moved on and made a deal w/ someone else before you had a tv deal, you'd be doing everything possible to counter them.

it's strictly business both for you and them. you moved on to fox, nothin wrong w/ that; but spike also needs to consider their future too, and they are just doing whatever they need to do legally and w/in their rights. they will need to make sure they continue to have mma and their only choice right now or most viable option is bellator.

so why not start putting those wheels in motion. if a little counter programming helps them, so be it, the ufc won't suffer much, trust me but spike isn't doing anything you never did or won't do in the future.

let's not forget your oh so honorable treatment of sponsors and journalists who dare to disagree w/ you or support other orgs and then the fighters can't have their sponsor pay them b/c u ban them.

i guess dana doesn't like to be treated how he treats others... sounds like the golden rule doesn't apply to him.

it is surprising that the fight is on fox and its numerous barrage of meaningless commercials on that channel why is it on fox? id expect versus or spike but fox. tuf is still on spike and so will prelim fights period. i think putting ufc on fox is a mistake. but then again i just want to see ufc fights no matter what could be worse on nbc with bob costas doing a stupid meaningless commentary lol.

Dana is shrewd, outwardly he says he is pissed then Spike turns and will air even more UFC and continue to promote the brand all the while Dana and Zuffa pay nothing for the advertising.

Giblets- September 27, 2011 at 12:24 am

Also, charlie murphy fucking LOVES kettle corn.
MediumRare- September 26, 2011 at 5:42 pm
Yeah, we need the edit button back.
I can't imagine why you guys resorted to some poverty-assed WordPress shit. You want me to quote you fuckers on a custom site that isn't some piss-weak cookie-cutter shit?
(On a related note, I'm beginning to suspect there are subliminal messages in these captchas.)
El Guapo- September 26, 2011 at 5:24 pm
(Sigh)Wherefor art thou, edit button? Put some damn socks ON, not off. As long as you wear socks you're good.
El Guapo- September 26, 2011 at 5:23 pm
For the love of God, man, put some damn socks off!
MediumRare- September 26, 2011 at 5:08 pm
BTW, El Guapo, when I'm doing mescaline I always read your posts aloud with a Dutch accent. It makes my wife really mad for some reason - but that could be because I'm wearing the living room curtains right now.
MediumRare- September 26, 2011 at 5:00 pm
Ah, I get it now! Danny Glover was snorting coke off a toilet seat (the pot) in preparation for a helping of spicy shit tacos and Eddie Murphy walked in, smoking a joint, and said something about some kettle corn.
Then Bill Cosby showed up and started lecturing them about speaking Ebonics.
The moral of the story is: Don't call the kettle black 'cause nobody uses cast iron kettles any more.
Thanks El Guapo.

Sex tool for sell that you will like them ,welcome to
El Guapo- September 26, 2011 at 4:37 pm
Just switch 'like' with look and you're on your way.
Moral of the story, don't smoke pot and eat kettle corn while ditching press conferences. Also, don't drink piss tea unless you like your spicy shit tacos medium rare, playa.
El Guapo- September 26, 2011 at 4:34 pm
No, it's important you guys learn.
So one day Wesley Snipes called the kettle black, see, and the pot was like(in his best Samuel L. Jackson voice)"THIS mothaf'ka right here needs to like in the GAHH-DAMN mirror!"
The End
El Guapo- September 26, 2011 at 4:26 pm

jimbonics- September 26, 2011 at 4:24 pm
Something about a kettle.
MediumRare- September 26, 2011 at 4:17 pm
This morning, after I pissed in the pot, I boiled water in a kettle for my tea.
