‘Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers’ to Be Broadcast 11/7 on CBS

Fedor Emelianenko Brett Rogers Strikeforce
(Props: shosports)

According to a press release just sent out by Strikeforce, Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers will face each other on Saturday, November 7th, in a Strikeforce event that will be broadcast on CBS (9:00 PM, live ET/delayed PT). It was previously announced that the matchup would air on Showtime, which explains some of Strikeforce’s quietness over the last couple weeks — they were working out the details on this surprising change of plans. Now, Dana White won’t be able to crow about how his reruns outdraw Strikeforce’s live fights, and he probably won’t risk defeat by counter-programming Strikeforce with a live UFC event, especially considering the UFC already has events scheduled for the following two weekends.

Sounds like a great move for Coker & Co., but they’re not out of the woods yet. For one thing, no city or venue has been announced for "Fedor vs. Rogers" — their trusty fallback, the HP Pavilion in San Jose, is hosting a Sharks game that night — and no other fights have been booked for the show. But for now, Scott Coker is focusing on the positive:

"It is an honor to have the opportunity to bring the Strikeforce brand to CBS. We are looking forward to bringing MMA back to the network and to having the world’s No. 1 heavyweight — Fedor — compete for the first time on live network television against one of America’s most promising young, undefeated stars — Brett Rogers."

We’ll keep you posted as details come together.

I am well aware but most of it sucks, if he wants to remain in the top 10 HW he needs to fight some legit people. Where will he go if Strikeforcecloses? Dream, good maybe he can rematch Hong Man Choi or fight Jose Canseco. There is always other MMA in the US, doesnt mean its good. My point is, if Strikeforce folds and he doesnt go to the UFC, he should retire because he is a joke.

If you are one of these Fedor nut huggers you know nothing about MMA. He record is inflated, look into it and realize while he does has a couple of impressive wins, most were against people on the downside of their career, glorified LHW, or absolute cakes.

Newsflash Viva there is mma outside the USA

I am making the announcement now, November 8,2009, Strikeforce closes up shop and halts its operations. You heard it here first, after its top fighter gets up set on national television, they will close up. Where have I heard this story before? Plus with less than 2 months before the event they have 1 fight, no venue, no city, no tickets sold. This whole thing sounds like a recipe for failure, which I am cheering for. No Strikeforce means Fedor has to jump to the UFC or retire.

Well played, Strikeforce. Well played.

Dana says he plans on having 4 cards on network TV per year. I hardly think that will spell the end for Strikeforce.
Aenarion- September 17, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Fuck yea! Free Fedor? I will surely be watching CBS that night.

Can we please stop the MMA fan community from becoming polarised like a bunch of morons whenever the name "Fedor" is mentioned?

Jesus Christ, it's even worse these days. You have trolls and counter-trolls and genuine saps on both sides. The flailing levels of emotions on display are truly incredible. And incredibly annoying.

On one hand you have the guy in one of the above posts who is using Fedor's name as an excuse to trash other fighters. And on the other hand you have another guy who is confusing Fedor with Bob Sapp.

Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.

I hope that with the CBS deal, Strikeforce can up their production values a little, especially with their video packages for the fighters in order to build them up better. Oh and they NEED TO STOP with the Keys to Victory RIGHT FUCKING NOW!!!!

Also this is the perfect card to make Mayhem an international MMA star. They should have him fight Jake Shields for the interim Middleweight belt. Plus they need to have the Nick Diaz vs. Joe Riggs fight that we were supposed to get last time. Oh and Gegard Mousassi could take on Jacare for a rematch of their Dream fight for the Light Heavyweight belt. Jacare looks like he could do well in the Light Heavyweight division if he moves up in weight and God knows they need the talent in that division as well.

For the chicks, it should be Miesha Tate and Cyborg Santos or whoever they have lined up for the Women's title. This could be a great card...

Can't wait to see the rest of the fight card. Also curious to see how UFC is going to counterprogram.

@ Beatingu:

"If you think he isn't the best heavy weight in the world your a fool."

If you don't know the difference between your, and you're... well... you know.

@ One Two

Strikeforce will only ever get viewers on "free"view. Oh, and UFC zero? Seriously? C'mon man, I'm too tired to continuously have to rattle the cages of dullards and half-wits. Dana's a prick, but a brilliant one. The UFC is T-H-E MMA world power, and it's in large part to him.

@ Fedor

Wow... talk about lose/lose situation. Either you thrash a tomato can, and everyone STILL calls you a "Brock-Ducker", or you get thrashed by a "relative" unknown and fade into obscurity taking Strikeforce with you. I have no respect for you anymore.
One Two- September 17, 2009 at 3:52 pm
Holeeeeeeeeee shit! fedor Free and on network!!!!

War huh dana?
Strikeforce 1,000
UFC zero

@ Beatingu:

They called it a 1-armed Nelson on bloodyelbow's judo chop. They even wrote a very lengthy article about how amazing that technique was. But you know what they say. Opinions are like A-holes: everyone's got one and they all stink.

Shouldn't this image be in this morning's "The Biggest Loser" post? September 17, 2009 at 2:33 pm
Good move on switching it to network TV vs. PPV..
TheSlothman- September 17, 2009 at 2:31 pm
@ Beatingu, and all Fedor nuthuggers... yes hes the best heavy, but hes not in the top 5 PFP, i prefer guys in my top 5 that dont have wins over ZULU(google it) , and fucking cartoon characters on NYE... enough already. And would it kill Fedor to do some freaking sit ups?
Terminator- September 17, 2009 at 2:16 pm
UFC don't give a shit. Next year they are gonna put on fights on network TV on a regular scheudle, which will be the end of Strikeforce. It will be like the NFL compared to the indoor football league. "yea no shit" -dan quinn
UFC is now the best- September 17, 2009 at 2:09 pm
What happened last time a promotion had their franchise guy fight on CBS?

I think he lives in a house in Vegas with a bunch of dudes, has a sick beard, and an extremely unusual bald head...
(yes i know the show was already taped)

I smell an upset... even tho I still wanna see Brock vs. Fedor.

C'mon Brett, you got this...

And free live MMA is free live MMA. I'm down.

UFC Fight Night turned out to be alot better than expected..

Keep up the good work CP.

And OH SNAP NBC which was running Strikeforce programming that only drunks and insomniacs watched.
