On Saturday night Army Ranger Tim Kennedy once again did what he’s gotten very accustomed to doing, and that’s beating up an outmatched opponent. Zak Cummings may have been 10-0 before the fight, but that didn’t mean he was ready for Kennedy, who controlled him for most of the fight before ending it with a north-south choke mid-way through the second. Afterwards Kennedy talked about aspirations to the Strikeforce middleweight crown, but he’ll have to wait and see who’s left standing after Jake Shields and “Mayhem” Miller – who’s beaten him twice – fight for the title in November.
In other action on last night’s card, former Olympic wrestler Daniel Cormier overwhelmed Gary Frazier with strikes on the mat in the second round to score a victory in his first MMA fight. Maybe in his second fight he can face someone who actually has some pro experience of his own.
