VIDEO: Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen’s Hilarious and Awful TUF Brawl, In Its Entirety

The infamous “brawl” episode of TUF Brazil 3 finally aired yesterday, giving us a complete picture of what led up to Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen tussling on the gym floor, and it’s honestly one of the funniest moments in TUF history. Silva instigates the situation by punching his palm and repeating the word “soon!” at Sonnen, like a schoolyard bully from a Disney movie. He spits at Sonnen’s feet, and I hate to make insulting comparisons here, but it’s the kind of thing that a llama or ape would do.

Chael remains as a cucumber, though: “How do you feel when you say crazy things like that to me, when I’ve been challenging you for years. You ever feel weird about that?”

At the 0:40 mark, I kid you not, Wanderlei says that Sonnen is going to have a daymare. Goodness, the English language offers so many possibilities for clever turns of phrase. But the best part is when Chael tries to grill Wandy on when exactly they’re going to fight. Of course, Wandy doesn’t have a clear answer for that. Then, Silva does some kind of slapping thing in front of Chael’s face, and the next time Silva closes distance on him, it’s on. Before you know it, Sonnen is on top of Silva, and Andre “Dida” Amade — who is an assistant coach on the show, not a competitor — is slugging Sonnen in the back of the head and ripping his jersey.

And that’s when this whole incident goes from comedy to tragedy. Sonnen called Dida’s behavior “straight-up illegal”, and he might have a point there. Just because you’re sucker-punched on a reality show doesn’t mean that normal assault rules don’t apply. Right? I have no idea, actually; I’ve never been on a Brazilian reality show. But I hear good things.

And Now They’re Fired: Maiquel Falcao and Paul Daley’s Legal Troubles Earn Them the Bellator Boot

(Pictured: The man Maiquel Falcao should have never done f*cked with.)

Here’s some unsurprising news: Due to their ongoing personal/legal troubles, Paul Daley and Maiquel Falcao were officially released from their Bellator contracts yesterday. While there are many things to take away from this decision, we think the most important one is that someone finally figured out how to break a Bellator contract without being sued. QUICK, EDDIE, TAKE TO THE STREETS!

You might recall that we slightly jumped the gun on Daley’s release after it had been reported that he was involved in a bar brawl (or “pub pugilistic” as they are known in London), the legal repercussions of which prevented him from entering the U.S. and competing under the Bellator banner. But in hindsight, we’ll just chalk up that previous article to our keen sense of premonition, pat ourselves on the back and order another Glen Garioch neat.

Falcao, on the other hand, found his legal trouble in the form of a wild gas station brawl (or “Thursday” as they are known in Brazil) that left his friend and fellow MMA fighter Kaue Mena hospitalized to this day. Seriously, join us after the jump to hear the “good news” on how Mena’s recovery has been going.

Video: Maiquel Falcao Smacks a Woman, Starting a Gas Station Brawl That Ends With Another Man Beaten Unconscious

(Falcao is the asshole wearing a t-shirt with his name on it, obviously. / Props: bandsantacatarina via BloodyElbow)

From his past assault charges to his tendency to keep punching his opponents long after the fight has been stopped, Bellator middleweight Maiquel Falcao has always seemed like the kind of dude you’d cross the street to avoid. Unfortunately, new surveillance footage from a gas station brawl in Brazil provides even more proof that “Big Rig” is an out-of-control jackass.

Watch the news report above and you’ll see the following: Falcao approaches a woman at a gas station, then angrily swats her in the ear with what appears to be his wallet. The woman and her friend go outside for backup, and three men arrive to confront Falcao and his companion, undefeated MMA featherweight Kaue Mena. Falcao is sucker-punched, which kicks off a wild brawl that spills outside.

Some dude in a red jacket shows up with a 2×4, and hits Falcao over the head twice with it, which knocks him down (and possibly out). The same guy then cracks Mena in the face with the piece of lumber, and Mena falls backward, his head making hard impact with the concrete. A guy in a white shirt repeatedly punches Mena in the face, and kicks him in the head at least twice. Everybody involved leaves the scene before the cops arrive, leaving Mena’s unconscious body behind. Keep in mind, this all started because Maiquel Falcao struck a woman in public.

According to BloodyElbow, Mena is currently in serious condition at the intensive care unit at the Hospital do Coração, and no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. Falcao last competed in February of this year, when he was knocked out by Alexander Shlemenko.

George Sotiropoulos Was Allegedly K.O.’d by Ross Pearson’s Boxing Coach on the Set of ‘TUF: The Smashes’

(Photo courtesy of Getty Images. Click it for the glorious, punch-face-tacular full-size version.)

If we ever re-launch our MMA Mythology comic series — which, like so many CagePotato features before it, sputtered out immediately after its debut — the tale of George Sotiropoulos getting knocked out off-camera during the filming of TUF: The Smashes would definitely deserve its own installment.

According to Team U.K. coach Ross Pearson, the incident occurred midway through the show’s filming, and began with some smack-talk between he and G-Sots over Twitter. At some point, Pearson’s assistant boxing coach Erin Beach* inserted himself into the eDrama. So, the next time Sotiropoulos saw Beach on set, the Australian fighter threw a punch at him. Beach fought back, and knocked Sotiropoulos clean out. MMAJunkie has more details:

The scrap drew an instant response from UFC President Dana White, who raised Pearson and his team on the phone. ”Dana chewed our heads off,” Pearson said. “George was acting unprofessional. I get paid to fight; I don’t fight in the streets for free.”

Flint MMA Event Ends in Massive Brawl, As Expected [VIDEO]

(Props: Muggzie76 via Deadspin)

See, this is why we can’t have nice things. On Saturday night, Flint Fight Fest hosted an unscheduled battle royale, when spectators began pouring over the top of the cage to join a brawl that was already in progress. The Flint Police Department was forced to step in and restore order. If you happened to be there and could provide us some insight on what led to the little in-cage disagreement in the first place, please let us know in the comments section.

The Top 10 Pre and Post-Fight Brawls in MMA History

(“Don’t be scared, homie.”)

By Matthew Kaplowitz

Honor. Respect. Discipline. These are the keys to being a good sport. Whether your arm is raised in victory or your head is hung low in defeat, a good fighter maintains his decorum in every situation. Unless you’re a jerk.

Every major sport has an athlete with a temporary lapse in judgment that causes them to do something they will regret later, and MMA is no different. In this sport, two people are locked in a cage and expected to beat one another until the other can take no more, so it only makes sense that some of these would spill out into a second fight if not for a hefty security team. That brings us to the top ten post-fight brawls, where the action keeps going after the bell and turns into one giant debacle that ruins the rest of the night! Don’t take your mouthpiece out or unwrap your gloves just yet, we are just getting started!

Donald Cerrone Ruins ‘Evolution 1′ Main Event Due to Backstage Brawl

This is not the best way to make an impression with your new employer. As first reported by the Na Koa MMA Show, WEC lightweight contender Donald Cerrone was involved in a backstage brawl with a heavyweight headliner at the first event put on by Evolution Combat Sports Championship, this Saturday in Clovis, New Mexico. According to Na Koa…

The brawl was apparently about a young lady now dating Donald Cerrone who used to date the main event fighter of the evening Marcus Sursa. [Ed. note: Not Brittney Palmer. Possibly this chick.] Comments were exchanged after Sursa returned from a trip to the rest room and Cerrone was overseeing the warm-ups of several Jackson MMA fighters on the card…some words were exchanged by the two and then a shove followed by Cerrone throwing a punch causing a laceration on the eye of Sursa, who responded with a punch cutting the lip of Cerrone.
