MMA in the Wild, Pt. 3: Emo Dispute Ends in Flying Inverted Back-Breaker Choke (or Something)

(Props: KickYoNuts)

Like that Henry Rollins photo we posted on our Facebook page earlier today, this clip is so incredible that part of us wonders if it’s 100% legit. Humbly titled “emo fight,” the video above depicts a scrap between two young dudes in some sort of industrial park, and kicks off with about a minute of wild scrambles, reversals, and odd positions, including (but not limited to) a full-on wheelbarrow and a Sudo/Oxley-style giant swing. And then it happens: The taller, lankier combatant takes the other guy’s back, wraps one arm around his neck, grabs his opponent’s ankle with his other hand, and wrenches the poor son-of-a-bitch across his back until unconsciousness is achieved. (If you have a snappier name for this finishing move than “flying inverted back-breaker choke,” by all means share it in the comments section.)

Now, if this had happened in a real MMA match, it would be a bulletproof Submission of the Year candidate, with a guaranteed spot in the 2013 Potato Awards. Unfortunately, it’s just another street fight between two high-schoolers who may or may not have choreographed the whole thing. We’ve certainly been fooled before. So what do you think…real deal or straight bullshit?

[VIDEO] Wolfgang Janssen Scores a Front-Runner for Submission of the Year Via Flying Reverse Triangle

The original title of this post was going to be something along the lines of “F’n A, Cotton! Some G Just J’d Into a RT at HFC, SOTY?” However, feeling that it didn’t hold up to the high standard of journalistic integrity you’re used to seeing on CagePotato, I thought I’d go with a more straightforward title. In either case, here’s some Guy named Wolfgang Janssen Jumping into a Reverse Triangle at last weekend’s Havoc Fighting Championship 1 card. He may have used a little help from the fence to do so, but damn, that is a Submission of the Year nominee if I’ve ever seen one. Agree or disagree?

Props to our buddies at MiddleEasy for stumbling upon this beautiful piece of footage.

Video Evidence: Vinny Magalhaes Uses a Mounted Gogoplata to Win M-1 Light Heavyweight Title

(YouTube/OfficialM1)

One of the many reasons this video from Thursday’s M-1 Challenge 25 event is handy is because a guy with a reverb-y announcer voice actually explains who Vinny Magalhaes and Viktor Nemkov are before they fight for the organization’s vacant light heavyweight title. Sure, maybe they use an “alternate” spelling of Magalhaes’ name in the graphic at the beginning, but we’re not sweating the small stuff. The other cool thing is that the play-by-play announcers just carry on a conversation with each other, almost as if they don’t know we’re listening. And did we mention the pre-fight choreography? Simply amazing.

The bad news is that all that silliness means the actual fight doesn’t even start until the 7:50 mark. But whoa, holy shit, check out that M-1 belt being toted around the ring at 6:22. Shit looks like they just glued some scrap metal onto an old piece of leather.
