Awesome Fight Documentary Film Watch: Eddie Alvarez’s ‘No Plan B’

By Elias Cepeda

We may be in a golden age, or at least an incredibly good season for new fight docs, taters.

There’s “Like Water,” on Anderson Silva, “I am Bruce Lee,”  and soon, an interesting-looking doc on lightweight Eddie Alvarez (22-3).

In addition to being a GOP policy stance, “No Plan B,” is a new film by David Klayman that chronicles Alvarez in the lead-up to what may still be his most high profile to date: his bout with former Sports Illustrated cover boy Roger Huerta back in 2010.

The trailer for the movie shows Alvarez at home with family, as well as training and consulting with champion/east coast colleagues Bernard Hopkins and Frankie Edgar. The title of the film is derived from a quote and apparent philosophy of Alvarez’. “…I’m not much of a planner,” he says. “I set a goal and there really is nothing else. So, there is no ‘plan b.’”

Although Alvarez suffered a rare loss in his last fight to Michael Chandler, he will have a chance to avenge a prior defeat when he takes on Shinya Aoki (30-5) at the Bellator card on April 20 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Check out the trailer for “No Plan B” after the jump, and stay tuned for reviews of this and other docs coming soon to CagePotato.

Check Out These Outtakes from the Upcoming Evan Tanner Documentary

(VidProps: YouTube/OnceIWasAChampion)

If you’re looking for an excuse to get a little bit misty-eyed this morning, you should definitely check out the above trailer for the forthcoming documentary about the late Evan Tanner. Titled “Once I Was a Champion,” the movie – produced at least in part by Tapout Films, according to the trailer – is reportedly being submitted for review by film festivals this month, where hopefully it’ll get some widespread play. If there’s one dude from MMA who deserves to have a film dedicated to his life, it’s probably Tanner. The former UFC middleweight champion certainly had his fair share of adventures (and perhaps personalities) which helped shape a quirky public persona, prior to his untimely death in the fall of 2008.

The trailer is legitimately pretty stirring and it seems like the full documentary itself is going to be pretty awesome. There are a slew of MMA luminaries involved, sharing their mostly positive remembrances of Tanner, while giving a nod to the troubled fighter’s “natural frailty.” Then you get to Chael Sonnen’s brief appearance at about the two minute mark and you think producers must have taken these comments out of context, not even Sonnen is this big of a dick. Then you watch the expanded video of Sonnen’s comments and you realize, nope, he really is a dick. See Sonnen’s performance and a few more fighters talking about Tanner after the jump.

Videos of Mass Destruction: Cyborg + Tyson

We’ve spent a lot of time analyzing Strikeforce’s main event this Saturday, but we’re honestly just as psyched to see the return of Chute Boxe rising star Cristiane "Cris Cyborg" Santos. When she steps into the cage against "Girlfight Monster" on Saturday, it could be one more step towards the fight that everybody wants to see — Cyborg vs. Carano. Get reacquainted with Santos’s body of work through the above highlight video, where she beats on some poor Brazilian girls as if they were rented redheaded stepchildren.

After the jump: TheGarv has found a complete version of the new James Toback documentary Tyson, which doesn’t hit theaters until later this month. We don’t expect it to be up for long, so take a look now because it’s required viewing. Did you know that Iron Mike was burnin’ with the gonorrhea when he fought Trevor Burbick? You do now!
