#WeekofDanga Caption Contest: Win a Copy of “In the Blood” on DVD!

Many of you newer readers might not know that, long before I was ever a dumb shit douchebag writer hack here, I was just a dumb shit douchebag commenter. You know, in the pre-Facebook times. The long-long ago, as it’s called. In any case, one of my favorite features of the ‘Tato back in the day was their/our caption contests, which have waned off a bit in recent years. So, being that this is the soon-to-be celebrated annually #WeekofDanga, I figured that I might as well revive an old relic as a way to give back to you, our fiercely-loyal-except-when-you-aren’t readers.

Unfortunately, I don’t have much to offer in the way of MMA memorabilia. I do, however, have an extra copy of In the Blood (read our review here) on DVD collecting dust in my room. It’s still in the plastic and everything. So if it’s a physical copy of the movie in which Gina Carano has her underwear ripped off while handcuffed that you’re seeking, join me after the jump to find out how you can win one fo’ free.

‘In the Blood’ Fight-Picking Contest: And the Winner Is…

Thanks to everybody who entered last week’s UFC Fight Night 42 fight-picking contest! The competition was tight, but the best prediction came from Scott Sawitz, who had Jon Dodson TKO’ing John Moraga in round 2. (The official stoppage came via doctor’s orders at the end of round 2, but close enough.) Scott, we’ll send out your copy of In the Blood this week.

Honorable mention goes to Evan Zivan, who predicted a Diego Sanchez win by unanimous decision (30-27 x 3), which was pretty close to what happened, due to incompetent and/or corrupt judging. Evan, we’ll send you a five-card pack of UFC Knockout 2014 Trading Cards if you’d like, because Topps sent us a bunch of these things for some reason.

Thanks again, and pick up a DVD copy of In the Blood on Amazon right here.

Fight Flicks Review: In the Blood aka “Gina Carano Ain’t Got Time to Bleed”

(“Easy senorita, ‘juicy’ is a term of endearment in these parts.”)

Fight Flicks is a new recurring column on CagePotato that focuses on overlooked, underrated, or just plain awesome fight-centric films. This week, we’re reviewing Gina Carano’s ziplining-gone-wrong revenge flick, In the Blood.

That rumors of Gina Carano‘s potential MMA return continue to dominate headlines despite her five year absence from the sport says a lot about the level of popularity she ascended to while fighting for Strikeforce, a since-deceased fight promotion that many of her current fans might not know ever existed. Carano’s recent turns in Haywire and Fast & Furious 6 have not only exposed her to an entirely new legion of fans, thusly fueling their/our desire to see her compete again, but have paved the way for tough, attractive female fighters like her (Ronda Rousey, for instance) to follow in her footsteps.

Somewhere between Haywire and her upcoming all-women Expendables riff, however, came In the Blood, a so-called “Female Taken set in the Caribbean” that hit movie stands on DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital HD yesterday.

Directed by John Stockwell — who reallyreally seems to enjoy placing his movies on or around tropical islands – and co-starring Cam Gigandet, Luiz Guzman, and the incomparable Danny Trejo, In the Blood aka “Gina Carano Ain’t Got Time to Bleed” takes your run-of-the-mill revenge flick and attempts to inject new life into it by making the protagonist…a woman (*record scratch*). GIF-tacular hijinks ensue, but you already knew that.

Our full review is after the jump.

Gina Carano Gets Her Underwear Ripped Off While Handcuffed, And Other Interesting GIFs From ‘In the Blood’ [Gallery/Clickbait]

(Don’t worry, Gina gets out of this one with her honor intact. / Props to BJPenn.com for the find.)

Y’know, I wasn’t sure if I was going to waste 108 minutes watching the new Gina Carano action movie, In the Blood. But apparently, there’s a scene in which Gina, while handcuffed, has her jean shorts and panties roughly removed by a scummy local police officer, and I’m going to be honest — that is very relevant to my interests.

Twelve more amazing Gina Carano GIFs from In the Blood are in the gallery after the jump. Special thanks to swedishfishrule for making most of them, and feel free to complain in the comments section about how Gina Carano has nothing to do with MMA anymore, and we shouldn’t be covering stuff like this. Maybe read this article about how Dana White would give Carano an immediate UFC title shot if she decided to return to fighting, and Ronda Rousey is totally down with that idea. That should make you feel better, right?

VIDEO: Gina Carano’s Nightclub Fight Scene From ‘In the Blood’

(Props: ESPN (?) via MiddleEasy)

You’ve seen the poster and you’ve seen the trailer — now watch this complete nightclub fight scene from Gina Carano‘s upcoming action movie, In the Blood. Are there Superman-punches? Yes. Is there an armbar? Yes. Does the armbar make the same generic “thump” sound as the Superman-punch, for some reason? You’d better believe it. Do we get a flash of Carano’s undies as she rolls around on the floor, which happen to match her red dress? Yeah, bro. Do a trio of basic bitches attack Carano one-by-one after she’s destroyed a dozen full grown men, as if *hair-pulling* might be her weakness? Don’t ask.

And yes, as long as Gina Carano keeps insisting that she might return to MMA one day, we’re going to keep talking about her.

Deal.

With.

It.

Gina Carano Channels Mel Gibson circa 1996 in Trailer for “In the Blood”

On Wednesday, we passed along the incredibly generic poster for Gina Carano‘s latest action flick, In the Blood, which in itself is an incredibly generic, almost meaningless series of words. Seriously, unless Carano’s character swims in her husband’s blood and/or reveals that he is actually her brother (TWIST!) in this film, In the Blood is the kind of vacant, faux-badass phrase that makes absolutely zero sense and seems destined for an Affliction shirt in the near future.

In any case, a trailer for In the Blood hit the Interwebz earlier today. In it, you will find Carano going all “Give me back my son husband!” across Fiji maybe (?) after a ziplining escapade gone awry unearths a conspiracy that goes ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP, I TELLS YA! While the trailer makes sure to include plenty of ‘splosions, Superman punches*, and the guitar riff you always hear at UFC weigh-ins, it is surprisingly absent of Danny Trejo, which makes me wonder if he even beheads a guy with a machete before having a threesome with the jabroni’s wife and daughter in this film. (*sighs*)

In the Blood hits select theaters, iTunes, and On Demand April 4th.

*Which brings us to our next CagePotato Ban: Superman punches in movies featuring MMA fighters. Has there ever been a movie tentatively connected to MMA that *didn’t* include this move? We get it, the Superman punch has a cool name and looks cool to boot. It’s also a technique that only an absolute dipshit would attempt in a street fight.

Photos of the Day: Gina Carano Points Gun at Somebody for ‘In the Blood’

(Click for full-size version.)

Above you’ll see the official poster for In the Blood, the new Gina Carano action-movie vehicle which will be released April 4th in select theaters and on iTunes and On Demand. From an art-direction standpoint, I rank this above the UFC’s Gustafsson vs. Manuwa trainwreck, but only slightly. While it’s nice to see Gina as the central focus of the film’s marketing, the poster doesn’t really tell you anything about the movie. It’s just a chick aiming a gun at somebody or something, for some reason, while projecting a generic air of calm determination. Plus, not including Danny Trejo’s horrifying mug somewhere is a missed opportunity. Look, it’s not like we won’t watch the damn movie, but sometimes complaining about things is all you have in the world.

Gina Carano to Star in Second Film; MMA Return Unlikely

(Yeah MMA made her a household name, but Hollywood magic made her a size 4.)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, female fighter and thespian Gina Carano has signed on for her second leading film role for the upcoming John Stockwell-directed thriller, “In the Blood,” which will likely mean that a return to MMA is not in the cards for the 29-year-old Strikeforce and EliteXC veteran.

“In The Blood” will begin production in Puerto Rico in the spring. The film is scripted by Dumb and Dumber’s Bennett Yellin and James Robert Johnston. Actor-turned-director Stockwell is best known for his work on Cheaters, Crazy/Beautiful, Blue Crush, Into the Blue, Turistas, and Heart.
