Jon Jones Goes Heel on Instagram, Trolls Phil Davis and Chuck Liddell

(Props: instagram.com/jonnybones)

The lead-up to Jon Jones‘s UFC 172 fight against Glover Teixeira was dominated by two basically-irrelevant stories — Phil Davis trying to start a trash-talk war with Jones, and Chuck Liddell’s dubious claim that he would have beaten Jones back in his prime. You can imagine Jones’s glee when Davis got some karmic comeuppance at the hands of Anthony Johnson, and Liddell was forced to watch his homeboy Glover get beat up in new and surprising ways.

At the UFC 172 post-fight press conference, Jones gave Anthony Johnson multiple high-fives for his work and said that Davis was off pouting somewhere. But still, more salt needed to be rubbed into Mr. Wonderful’s wounds. So last night, Jones released a quick highlight reel of Davis getting roughed up by Rumble, followed by a wordless appearance that communicates all it needs to. Jones’s caption is “Crumble me like a cookie?”

Jones also posted this photo of a depressed-looking Chuck Liddell, with the caption “Talking all that trash before the fight.. you mad bro?” The message is loud and clear — if Jones doesn’t have the chance to beat you in an actual fight, he will still kick you in the face on social media. Meanwhile, Anthony Johnson continues to be a super-nice guy, but who’s interested in that?

Either Jon Jones’s Phone Was Stolen, Or He Went Full Homophobe on Instagram Last Night

(Props: BloodyElbow)

UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones caused quite a stir on social media last night when he apparently fired a barrage of homophobic slurs at a Swedish kid named Daniel Javid. After Javid dared to question Bones’s recent statement that he has more heart than Alexander Gustafsson, Jones — or somebody operating his account — went through Javid’s photos and left comments such as “Fag shit,” Fag boys,” and “Homosexuality is a sin.” Jones then posted a selfie as if nothing out-of-the-ordinary had happened.

The official explanation from Jones’s manager Malki Kawa is that his phone was stolen, and someone else was posting those comments without his knowledge. (Don’t worry, Jones already got a new phone.) Whether or not you believe that excuse probably reflects how you feel about Jon Jones in the first place. Do you believe that Jones is openly homophobic and lacks the self-control to keep his opinions to himself? Anecdotes like this certainly don’t help his case. Or, do you believe Kawa’s story, because it would be insane for a UFC superstar to go off like this in public? I’m inclined to lean towards the latter, but who knows?

We’ll update you if and when the UFC releases a statement about this incident.

Let me translate the above Instagram photo, for those of who you aren’t fluent in hashtag: Beloved UFC/PRIDE/Strikeforce veteran Phil “The New York Bad Ass” Baroni will be competing for Bellator on May 2nd, on a Spike TV-televised fight in Atlantic City, the same city that hosted his first-ever UFC fight back in February 2001. Baroni would like you to know that he’s back, he’s still the man, and what you see is what you get, etc. Indeed, Phil Baroni is all the hashtags.

Assuming that Baroni isn’t just making shit up, the 5/2 date means he’ll be fighting at Bellator 118, supporting a bantamweight title fight between Eduardo Dantas and Joe Warren. According to MMAJunkie’s sources, “[Baroni's] deal is expected to be a short-term one, possibly just a single fight. The promotion also has no current plan to enter Baroni in any upcoming tournaments.” The 37-year-old slugger’s opponent hasn’t been announced yet.

Dear MMA Fans, Tyler Manawaroa’s Racist Instagram Photo Is Not Excusable

(Photo via Getty)

By Matt Saccaro

The comments on any article or message board post about Tyler Manawaroa’s racist Instagram post are an example of why MMA is where it is in terms of the sport’s public perception.

Manawaroa, a fighter on TUF Nations, posted the racist image macro on his Instagram 18 months ago. It was brought to light just recently when fellow TUF Nations member Kajan Johnson tweeted it to his coach, Patrick Cote.

Some fans are responding with apt disgust, while others are showing why society thinks MMA is a crass, sordid sport followed only by skinheads and low-class morons—the kinds of white, suburban idiots who believe in Reptilians, hoard bitcoins in case the shit hits the fan, worship Ron Paul, and think reverse racism is a real thing.

Here are a handful of highlights from the Bloody Elbow article about Manawaroa’s photo, as well as the post about it on r/MMA—Reddit’s MMA locale that’s replaced the UG as the web’s premier destination for MMA discussion and content—as well as the Instagram photo itself:
