Slim, Articulate and Even-Keeled Mike Tyson Talks New One-Man Show [VIDEO]

(“It’s actually a Robin Givens voodoo bear.”)

Mike Tyson is one of, if not THE most polarizing figure in combat sport history, which makes his upcoming one-man show something we’re very interested in seeing.

Regardless of what you think about the once dominant and troubled former boxing champ, you can’t deny that he is an interesting person to listen to talk.

What’s amazing is that Tyson, unlike a lot of his counterparts, has actually become a much more thoughtful, articulate and seemingly more intelligent person through his self-education and quest for personal betterment after his retirement. Part of that stems from the fact that he didn’t incur much head trauma during his career as he was typically the one inflicting it, but the biggest factor in Tyson’s turnaround is maturity and the influence his wife and family had on his life.

According to “Iron Mike,” the introspective show will focus on anecdotes and stories from his life and will include the good, the bad and the ugly including his tumultuous relationships with Don King and Robin Givens and the infamous ear-biting incident in his fight with Evander Holyfield.

Check out an interview the healthy-looking Tyson did with USA Today about the upcoming show after the jump.

It Looks Like Mike Whitehead Will Call Prison Home for the Next 1 to 4 Years

(Exhibit A for the defense: Whitehead can’t take a punch.)

In a surprising twist in the Mike Whitehead sexual assault case, the former The Ultimate Fighter 2 contestant was sentenced to between one and four years in Nevada State Prison today in Las Vegas. This according to the Associated Press.

Whitehead, who now lives in Tucson, Arizona and was scheduled to fight on Resurrection Fighting Alliance’s March 30 card in Nebraska, burst into tears after the sentence was read in Clark County court. He was immediately handcuffed and taken into custody. A report by the Associated Press states that “Iron” Mike (ironic, huh?) was charged with “attempted sexual assault,” which seems a bit off, considering he was full on having intercourse with a passed out chick while fondling her sleeping friend at his home when the victim woke up and told him to stop back in April 2010. In spite of her protest, Whitehead continued having sex with the 32-year-old acquaintance for several moments before climbing off of her and sitting naked on a chair in the corner while he stared at her and her 28-year-old girlfriend for a couple of hours.

It seemed like he would walk away with probation when it was announced late last year that he had struck a plea bargain with prosecutors to plead “no contest” to all charges against him to avoid the case going to trial, but it looks like the judge agreed with pretty much everyone that Whitehead should do the time for his vile crime.

Video of the Day: The Mike Tyson Quote Song

(Video courtesy of YouTube/JustDaveMusic)

When you’re humming this later, don’t blame us.

Who knew that some of Mike Tyson’s greatest lines would fit so seamlessly with basic chords on an acoustic guitar?

I’m as big of a Mike Tyson fan as anybody, but he is narrowly behind Tito Ortiz as the most phonetically challenged fighter in combat sport history and this song proves it.

Video: Mike Tyson Talks About Where His Money Went, Pacquiao-Mayweather and His Hall of Fame Status

If you’re a Mike Tyson fan like I am, one of the toughest things to witness was the once thought unstoppable heavyweight’s fall from grace and prominence in the world of boxing.

Whether or not you think he’s guilty of the charges that saw him spend some of the best years of his life in prison is irrelevant to his place in Boxing Hall of Fame and the trials and tribulations the beleagured former champion has gone through in his life, from falling victim to the trappings of success to hangers on like Robin Givens to losing a child.

The interviews above and below are must-watch material for any current and former fans or for those who want to know what happened to Tyson, beyond what he touched on in his acclaimed self-titled documentary.

I have an autographed pic of “Iron Mike” in his heyday on the wall of my office that I’m looking at as I write this that depicts the champ like I remember him and before all of his troubles outside the ring caught up to him. That’s how I want to remember him, because I’m a fan of his performances in the ring back then.

Check out the other parts of the interview after the jump.

Video: Tea Time With Mike Tyson

(Pinky up, Iron Mike.)

I know, I know, this isn’t MMA-related, but there’s something so surreal about seeing a man who was once the most dangerous fighter in the world sipping chamomile and honey at a tea party, that I figured you guys would let it slide just this once.

Mike Tyson sat down with The Daily Line’s Reese Waters for a one-on-one interview that spanned a variety of topics from his torrid relationship with cannolis to selling duplicate wedding gifts at pawn shops.
