Martial Arts Fail of the Week: The World’s Worst Karate Demo (No, Really)

(via Bullshido.net)

This week’s Martial Arts Fail isn’t deriding a dubious technique or making light of a strange weapon. No, this week we’re providing a demonstration of how bad mainstream martial arts is.

Watch the above video. That’s what middle class America thinks martial arts is–awkwardly flailing your limbs while concentrating your ki and shouting like you’re in labor. We must warn you though, this video is bad. You might get chest pain from laughing. Or you might get chest pain from depression at what’s become of martial arts instruction in the United States.

We don’t know the school, or the style (Taekwondon’t? You get it? OK it was lame, sorry). All we know is that it’s awful.

[VIDEO] This Flying Whatchamacallit is the Greatest Knockout of 2013 so Far, Bar None.

Kick Kick Boom – Watch More Funny Videos

We’re not going to waste our time debating whether or not this insane karate knockout is the best KO of 2013 so far. It is. We are not even going to bother finding out where this happened or who was responsible for it. For the time being, we’re just going to assume that Sensei Seagal was standing somewhere off camera when this went down, immersed in darkness and silently muttering “Let the hate flow through you” to the young gentlemen who was able to pull it off.

Instead, we’d like to spend this time determining just what the hell we are going to call this kick before Anthony Pettis pulls it off in his next fight: The bicycle-kick? The Hurricane? The Flying Dingus? The Roflcopter? The Pele? To be fair, the first and last ones are pretty much interchangeable, so help us out, Nation. Whoever comes up with the best nickname will receive an official CagePotato “I.O.U a shirt” voucher.

Worst… Street Fight… Ever [VIDEO]

(Video courtesy of LiveLeak)

When a guy announces prior to a street fight that he “knows karate,” you pretty much know he’s full of shit. This dude from Poland decided to demonstrate the katas he learned as a young boy on a seemingly unwilling victim, and narrated the entire altercation.

Besides a whole lot of rolling around and a few face-slaps, not a whole lot happens, but not because he wasn’t trying. He whiffs on a soccer kick as his opponent is getting back to his feet and tries to land the perfect punch, to no avail. I wonder if he realizes that the people watching aren’t laughing with him?

GSP Disarms Knife-Wielding Attacker at UFC 129 Media Workout

(Props: MMAFighting)

No, it wasn’t a bit of pre-fight crime-fighting in the style of Jon Jones. At yesterday’s UFC 129 media workout, Georges St. Pierre paid tribute to his karate roots by doing a kata for onlookers, and then proving the effectiveness of the art by disarming a bad guy with a knife. Either that or he’s just screwing with all of us. Is GSP growing a sense of humor? And how many blocks of ice did Lyoto Machida break afterwards?

Video: Lyoto Machida’s Spirit Is Ready (And He Will Not Be Touched)

(Courtesy of BadBoy.com)

Does anybody else feel sorry for Thiago Silva after watching this video of Lyoto Machida preparing for their fight at UFC 94? Machida really is one of the most focused, technically sound fighters in the world, and if he can score the mount on Silva as easily as he does with his training partner at the video’s 0:42 mark, forget about it. Plus, he has that "spirit" thing going for him, which is nice.

As Machida’s brother Chinzo points out, Lyoto "will only attack an opponent when he knows that the strike will hit its mark." And of course there’s the matter of his confounding defense. FightMetric put together this comparison of Lyoto Machida and some of MMA’s current champions, based on the number of strikes they absorb per minute of fighting ("SApM"):

Fedor Emelianenko: 0.59 SApM
Lyoto Machida: 0.64 SApM
Anderson Silva: 0.71 SApM
Georges St. Pierre: 1.01 SApM
BJ Penn: 1.23 SApM
Rashad Evans: 1.39 SApM
Frank Mir: 2.7 SApM

It’s a very telling statistic, when you consider that many MMA fans would name Fedor/Anderson/Georges/BJ as the top four pound-for-pound fighters in the world, in that order. Does Machida deserve to be ranked among them? He certainly has the talent; maybe by the end of the year he’ll have the accomplishments as well.

‘WTF’ Video Roundup: Xtreme Arm Wrestling, Human Wrecking Balls, Black-Belt Monkey

(Props: Fightlinker)

It’s time for a look at the weird, wild, wacky side of martial arts. First is the above clip of a XARM (Xtreme Arm Wrestling) match, where two competitors have their hands taped together, then proceed to beat each other senseless. I think the goal is still to pin your opponent’s arm on the table, but as you’ll see, that’s not quite how it plays out. The saddest part is that one of the dudes behind this spectacle is Art Davie, one of the co-creators of the UFC. Christ, even Bob Meyrowitz laughs at this guy. I feel bad for those XARM’ers wrists. And their mothers, of course.

Meet Craig and Paul Pumphrey, stars of G4′s upcoming series Human Wrecking Balls. Both are members of the International Karate and Kickboxing Hall of Fame, and both enjoy breaking shit with their bare hands. My favorite part of this promo clip is 0:36-0:39, where the dude just straight-up runs through a wall. I thought that only happened in Kool-Aid commercials. Oh yeah!
