Hot Potato: 22 Photos of MMA Ring Girl (And U.S. Marine) Shannon Ihrke

(Photo courtesy of Maxim. Lots more after the jump.)

Thanks to for introducing us to Shannon Ihrke, a 23-year-old model who made her MMA ring girl debut at ProElite: Big Guns earlier this month, and will be appearing at the King of the Cage “Winter Warriors” event in her hometown of Walker, Minnesota, on December 10th. Much more importantly, she’s been enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps for the last four years, and currently holds the rank of Sergeant E-5, which means you should salute every time you see her. (Ed. note: Don’t actually do that.)

Shannon is currently drawing attention as a finalist for Maxim’s 2011 Hometown Hotties competition; you can vote for her and watch some fantastic behind-the-scenes videos right here. Get to know her better on Facebook and Twitter, and check out a bunch of our favorite Shannon Ihrke photos in the gallery after the jump.

Proud Marine Brian Stann Makes No Apologies for Memorializing His Fallen Military Brothers and Sisters Every Chance He Gets

By Mike Russell

(Marine Corps Captain Brian Stann receiving his Silver Star in March 2006 for bravery and leadership in battle)

Today marks the 236th birthday of the United States Marines, and as such, I thought it would be fitting to print an outtake quote from an interview I did with Brian Stann earlier this month for a recent Fighters Only Magazine story.

When talk turned to the growing contingent of MMA fans who have publicly blasted “All American” for memorializing his fallen military brothers and sisters, Stann, a decorated retired  Marine said that he makes no apologies for paying them tribute whenever he has a public forum to do so.

Read Brian’s take on the subject after the jump.

Hire Heroes USA Needs Your Help and All it Will Cost You is a Mouse Click

Imagine wrapping up a dedicated career serving your country in the military and not being able to find a job.

That’s the reality of life for a growing number of former servicemen, which is why Hire Heroes USA was created.

Championed by Executive Director Brian Stann, a decorated former Marine and standout fighter with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Hire Heroes USA is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide career placement assistance to America’s returning service men and women. The HHUSA program focuses on providing transitional assistance to Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom veterans, specializing in the career placement of soldiers who were injured or disabled in action. The program serves veterans from all branches of the military: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard, Reservists and Coast Guard.

Carlos Condit Beats Hell Out of Troops

Here’s the thing: when Carlos Condit (currently ranked #9 in the world at welterweight in the ultra-official Cage Potato Power Rankings) says to you before a sparring session, “Hit me as hard as you want to get hit,” it may not be the best idea to go out there and unload on him with your best right hand. Not unless you want to feel his retaliation in the form of a head kick-right straight combo that will put you on your ass.

At the same time, it is pretty awesome. When that dude wakes up, someone should buy him a beer.
