Video: Brian Ebersole’s Weirdo Cartwheel Kick Actually Knocked Somebody Out, Once

(Props: WunWunTwo)

Back in March 2009, we referred to the above clip as “the greatest KO ever.” We never bothered to find out who the fighters were, but we got a strange flash of deja vu during UFC 127 on Saturday night when Brian Ebersole launched two separate cartwheel kicks at Chris Lytle. Now, MiddleEasy confirms that the dude in the famous cartwheel kick knockout video is Brian Ebersole. The fight went down at XFC: Return of the Hulk in Perth, Australia on 3/14/09, and the unlucky victim was Shannon Forrester. Now give that crazy manscaped goof his due respect. After the jump: Gifs of Ebersole’s failed cartwheel kick attempts against Lytle, courtesy of IronForgesIron.com.

MMA GIF Party: Fedor’s Translator Is Losing Her Goddamned Mind

(“See my to-do list? It say, ‘translate stupid question from plaid-shirted American.’ Now I have done.”)

Man, Fedor Emelianenko‘s translator Tanya really needs her own CBS sitcom. It would be called $#*! My Russian MMA Legend Says, Which I Am Paid to Summarize in English. Throw in a bearded wacky neighbor, and you’ve got yourself a hit. More Tanyariffic physical comedy from Fedor’s last ‘MMA Hour’ appearance is after the jump, courtesy of Fightlinker.

GIF of the Day: Eddie Wineland’s Slam-Knockout of Ken Stone @ WEC 53

Eddie Wineland Ken Stone WEC 53 MMA gifs gif slam knockout KO
(Props: MMAConvert)

The full video of Eddie Wineland‘s WEC 53 preliminary card fight against Ken Stone is still nowhere to be found — and yet, we now have a gif of Wineland’s Knockout of the Night-winning slam, which means that someone must have seen the fight at some point. Stone had to leave the cage on a stretcher, but was reportedly moving around under his own power later that night. I know, the gif ain’t much. Which is why we’ve included another slam-knockout after the jump — this one of the belly-to-belly suplex variety, from an M-1 Challenge event in August 2009. (Thanks to MiddleEasy for the tip.)

WEC 53 Aftermath Notes: Video of ‘The Showtime Kick’, Prelim Madness, Bonuses + More

(In slo-mo for your convenience. Props: kemist. Full-speed gif is at the end of this post.)

Let’s get this out of the way: The cage-spring head-kick that Anthony "Showtime" Pettis landed on Ben Henderson in their lightweight title fight at last night’s WEC 53 event was 1) The greatest kick in MMA history, 2) Maybe the most impressive knockdown in MMA history, and 3) Further proof that Pettis is one of the most exciting 155′ers in the universe. (He’s also punched his ticket to challenge for the UFC lightweight title against either Frankie Edgar or Gray Maynard, who both look dull as hell by comparison.)

We already knew Pettis was capable of stuff like this, but to have the balls to throw that kick in the fifth round of a title fight? If he planted his foot wrong, the video above might be titled "Ultimate Fail." Instead, he clinched the match on the judges scorecards with absolute authority. Said Pettis after the fight: “Duke Roufus plays with us, and we try these new kicks. He told us if one of us lands it in the cage that he would take us to dinner. So he owes me some dinner.”

The main event earned both men $10,000 Fight of the Night bonuses. As action-packed as the "Henderson vs. Pettis" broadcast was, the unaired prelims were equally hardcore, producing five first-round stoppages in seven bouts…

MMA GIF Party: TUF 12 Finale Edition

Today’s GIF party features a couple of animated highlights from the TUF 12 Finale‘s unaired prelims, as well as the Spike broadcast. First up, the night’s only knockout — Pablo Garza’s flying-knee-KO of Fredson Paixao, which came just 51 seconds into round one and scored Garza a $30,000 Knockout of the Night bonus. As if the KO wasn’t impressive enough, check out Steve Mazzagatti flying in from 15 feet away to tackle Garza before he makes Paixao’s concussion any worse than it needs to be.

After the jump: The "Pace choke," the McKenzitine, and the stunned expessions following Phan vs. Garcia.

TUF 11.9 Recap: Sh*t Hits the Fan, Part 1

(Gif of Tavares getting kicked in the "chest," courtesy of smoogy.)

Kris McCray vs. Kyle Noke. Brad Tavares vs. Seth Baczynski. Tito Ortiz vs. Everyone’s Patience. Last night’s episode of The Ultimate Fighter was a wall-to-wall struggle. Here’s what happened.

After Team Liddell’s Court McGee became the first TUF 11 semi-finalist, following his submission of James Hammortree, it’s time for two more quarterfinal matches. First up is Kris McCray vs. Kyle Noke, two guys who used to be training partners. Dana White cares not for your personal relationships: "One of the things I want these guys to learn early? There are no friends in the UFC."

Tito Ortiz might be looking at neck surgery. There’s a disc pressing on his spinal cord, which is causing numbness in his legs and daily headaches, among other symptoms. He’s not going to let Chuck beat him because he wasn’t 100%. Instead of fighting injured and jeopardizing his health, he wants to get this taken care of. It’s basically the same story we heard last week from Nick Ring, who by the way, is out of the competition for one day and already has a full-on Freddie Mercury ‘stache.

Noke has two inches in height, 4.5 inches in reach, and a hell of a lot more fights under his belt than McCray. It’s time to bang.

Do We All Owe Josh Koscheck an Apology?

Josh Koscheck UFC 113
(Props: kevinjd)

So let’s run this thing down, from the beginning.

During the first round of Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley‘s fight last Saturday at UFC 113, Paul Daley fires a knee to Josh Koscheck’s dome while Kos’s knees were clearly in the "down" position. Kos does his best to call attention to the foul before slumping over on the mat. He covers his face in apparent pain. When he removes his glove, there’s blood on the bridge of his nose that didn’t seem to be there before. The crowd boos Daley’s dirtiness…until they see the replay, which shows (from multiple angles) that at worst, Daley’s knee grazed Koscheck’s hair. Sure, the knee shouldn’t have been thrown in the first place, but Josh had just been exposed as a faker. Now the crowd was booing him. After the controversial fouls in his ugly match against Anthony Johnson, Koscheck’s credibility was officially shot.

Following the Daley fight, he stood by his claim that he’d been kneed illegally — or at least hit in the face by something. It could have been a fist, actually. At the time, this seemed like a pathetic explanation, because if it was a punch, why would Kos try so hard to draw the foul, and besides, hadn’t we just seen the replay of this mysterious illegal blow like 20 times? Forget it. Josh Koscheck was a liar and our minds were made up.

Okay. Are you ready to have your minds blown?

MMA Gif Party: Jason MacDonald Breaks a Leg at UFC 113

Jason MacDonald UFC 113 leg break Salter
Jason McDonald leg break John Salter UFC 113
(Props: WatchKalibRun)

It wasn’t shown on Saturday night’s pay-per-view broadcast, but Jason MacDonald‘s return to the Octagon at UFC 113 didn’t exactly go as planned. Midway through the first round of their prelim fight, John Salter scored a takedown against MacDonald, whose left leg snapped underneath him in horrifying, Joe Theismann-esque fashion. The result? A broken tibia and fibula, and a dislocated ankle. Get well soon, Jason. "The Athlete"’s overall UFC record dropped to 5-6 following the TKO loss via injury, while Salter picked up his first UFC win. And as you can see, he was pretty damn pleased with himself.

MacDonald wasn’t the only fighter who left Montreal busted up. Patrick Cote broke his right hand in his losing effort against Alan Belcher — a terribly unfortunate outcome for a guy who was already coming back from a year-and-a-half of injury inactivity.

GIF: Chuck Liddell Suffers Another Mini-Stroke on the Set of TUF 11

(Props: Card on the UG)

Potato Nation, we’ve reached the point where those of us who care about Chuck Liddell’s health and well-being simply cannot, in good conscience, allow him to continue watching MMA fights. The strain is clearly too much for him. We’ve seen it in the past when Liddell has been cageside at UFC fights. We saw it again on last night’s episode of “The Ultimate Fighter.” When Liddell gets caught up in the action of a fight, his neurological system momentarily shuts down and he staggers around like an old man who has been jolted from his recliner by a disturbing dream involving gays and the Korean War. I’m not sure what the exact medical term is for this, but it must be something that’s difficult to pronounce and potentially life-threatening.

What’s really alarming is, this latest seizure was brought on by a close, though not all that action-packed exhibition fight. Can you imagine what will happen if Liddell finds himself engrossed in a particularly competitive title fight? Why, there’d be nothing left at the end but a mohawk and a sweat-stained club shirt.

MMA GIF Party: Vera vs. Jones Security Takes a Beating, Part 2

Vera Jones gif walkout funnyVera Jones funny gifs walkout security punch

Yesterday, we posted a GIF of Jon Jones slugging the shit out of an escort during his cage-entrance at Sunday’s UFC on Versus show. Turns out it was a rough night for the security staff overall. As caposa points out, two more non-combatants got assaulted during Brandon Vera‘s entrance, this time by fans. Poor guys. They should get safety goggles. And headgear. And tazers to shock the shit out of those drunk D-bags.

Alistair Overeem Has No Problem Kicking a Little Girl

(Props: The UG)

There’s really nothing that needs to be said about this.  It’s just Alistair Overeem doing what Alistair Overeem does, which is show no mercy to nobody.  He doesn’t care whether you’re an overly trusting little blonde girl or some hapless tomato can scrounged up by a promoter trying to give him an easy payday or one of five nightclub bouncers.  He will jack you up and then he will laugh about it.  That’s just how he do.  The sooner you accept that and move on, the better off you’ll be.
