All praise be to Master Steven Seagal. Or Ralph Macchio. One of the two. Lyoto Machida‘s incredible jumping front-kick KO of Randy Couture at UFC 129 netted him the event’s Knockout of the Night bonus, which came out to a whopping $129,000. (See what Dana did there?) The UFC can certainly afford it, since UFC 129′s gate revenue was reportedly $12.075 million.
Also picking up $129k bonuses: Jose Aldo and Mark Hominick (Fight of the Night) for their epic five-round featherweight title bout, and Pablo Garza for his flying triangle over Yves Jabouin in the first preliminary match.

When Jake Shields beat Dan Henderson to a unanimous decision at Strikeforce: Nashville last year I was shocked. At the time, Hendo had left the UFC fresh off his devastating KO victory over Michael Bisping and was the favorite against Jake Shields in his Strikeforce debut. Before he defended his Middleweight crown against Dangerous Dan, Shields fought for the then-vacant Strikeforce belt against Jason Miller in a grappling clinic put on between the two, and in the end took the unanimous decision.
I personally believed that Jake didn’t have what it took to beat not only an Olympic-class wrestler, but a very dangerous power puncher. Most of us should know that Jake Shields doesn’t exactly have the best stand-up in Mixed Martial Arts. But what he lacks in the striking department, he completely makes up for with his Caesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt and his very strong wrestling. If Shields can grab a hold of any opponent, they’ll be in very big trouble trying to defend his takedown, submissions, and transitions. And if somehow you can get him on the ground, he has the tools to get out of any nasty situation…Read More DIGG THIS

If you have a morbid interest in seeing how James Irvin’s last fight against Mamed Khalidov went, well, here you go. I’m not going to throw around the word “work,” but check out how wide and telegraphed Irvin’s punches are, starting at the 0:21 mark — it’s the universal non-verbal sign for “please armbar me so I can collect my paycheck and head to the airport.” And that’s pretty much what happens. Happy now?
After the jump: The brutal finish of Patricio “Pitbull” Freire vs. Georgi Karakhanyan from Saturday’s Bellator show, Junior Dos Santos pulls off a pretty damn respectable “Showtime Kick,” and the gif of Shogun tapping against Jon Jones at the end of their fight at UFC 128, in case you haven’t seen it yet.Read More DIGG THIS

Back in March 2009, we referred to the above clip as “the greatest KO ever.” We never bothered to find out who the fighters were, but we got a strange flash of deja vu during UFC 127 on Saturday night when Brian Ebersole launched two separate cartwheel kicks at Chris Lytle. Now, MiddleEasy confirms that the dude in the famous cartwheel kick knockout video is Brian Ebersole. The fight went down at XFC: Return of the Hulk in Perth, Australia on 3/14/09, and the unlucky victim was Shannon Forrester. Now give that crazy manscaped goof his due respect. After the jump: Gifs of Ebersole’s failed cartwheel kick attempts against Lytle, courtesy of IronForgesIron.com.Read More DIGG THIS

(“See my to-do list? It say, ‘translate stupid question from plaid-shirted American.’ Now I have done.”)
Man, Fedor Emelianenko‘s translator Tanya really needs her own CBS sitcom. It would be called $#*! My Russian MMA Legend Says, Which I Am Paid to Summarize in English. Throw in a bearded wacky neighbor, and you’ve got yourself a hit. More Tanyariffic physical comedy from Fedor’s last ‘MMA Hour’ appearance is after the jump, courtesy of Fightlinker.Read More DIGG THIS
