CagePotato Q+A: Rose Namajunas Discusses Twerking, Ronda Rousey, And Getting That Invicta Belt

(Subscribe to CagePotato on YouTube!)

Before she returns to the cage at Invicta FC 6 on Saturday night, our favorite strawweight Rose Namajunas — a.k.a., The Honey Badger — took some time to answer a few questions submitted by the Potato Nation. (The role of CP’s comment section was played by Pat Barry. Well done, Pat.) Follow Rose on twitter @RoseNamajunas, and be sure to tune into Invicta FC 6 on Saturday!

Must-See Video: ‘Road to Coenen vs. Cyborg’ Traces the History, Rivalry of Two WMMA Legends

(Props: YouTube.com/InvictaFC)

Rose Namajunas isn’t the only reason to stay home and watch Invicta FC 6 on Saturday night. The 13-fight card features a generous lineup of entertaining scrappers, and will be headlined by the biggest women’s MMA matchup you’ll find outside of the UFC — Cris Cyborg vs. Marloes Coenen, throwing down for Invicta’s inaugural featherweight title.

The ladies have some history, to put it mildly. In January 2010, Cyborg and Coenen faced off for the Strikeforce women’s featherweight title, with Cyborg winning by third-round TKO. Despite getting bombed out for the majority of the fight, Coenen maintains that the match was stopped early; Cyborg credits the Dutchwoman’s “balls” for wanting a rematch, considering all the abuse she took. And of course, both fighters carry the weight of their pasts into the cage, from Coenen’s status as a living legend, to Cyborg’s rise (and temporary fall) as one of the best-known stars in WMMA.

If you need further convincing that this match is worth your time, check out this new “Road to Coenen vs. Cyborg” preview video from Invicta FC, directed and edited by E. Casey Leydon — who you may know as the genius auteur behind that War MMA behind-the-scenes video — and co-produced by AllElbows*, which manages to cram all these themes (along with some very badass training footage) into a highly watchable 13 minutes. Special appearance by Ben Fowlkes!

* AE photographer Esther Lin also gets a music credit at the end. Goodness, this lady can do it all.

Pro-Wrestling-Inspired MMA Move of The Day: Cambodian Fight Ends Via Boston Crab

Because every country needs to have its own MMA promotion these days, Cambodia’s Khmer Warrior Championship put on an event in Phnom Penh on Sunday, headlined by Soung Sovantha (never heard of him) vs. Bun Heang (never heard of him). You can check out the fights on the khmersexystars YouTube channel…or just watch our favorite one above, which pits Von Savy against Bun Mang. Yep, two dudes named Bun were on the same card. It is what it is.

The fight itself is pretty uneventful, up until the finish. The two fighters appear to have Muay Thai backgrounds from their stances, but neither Savy (red trunks) nor Mang (blue trunks) engaged much for the first couple of minutes. There is a lot of feeling out, a tiny bit of clinch work and two effective leg kicks from Savy.

Then, it happens.

Mang throws a left leg kick to the body that is caught by Savy, who sweeps his opponent off of his feet, grabs both of Mang’s feet by the ankles and locks on a freaking Boston Crab.

Anyone who has first-hand experience with high school locker room wrestling matches knows that the Boston Crab hold, popularized by Professional Wrestling, hurts a whole lot if you’re bad enough to let your opponent apply it.

Bobby Lashley Chokes Out Matthew Larson at ‘GWC: British Invasion’ [VIDEO]

(Props: TheMMAMoguls)

There’s a good chance you haven’t thought about Bobby Lashley in a long time. It’s been years since the former WWE star was making short work of Bob Sapp, or competing in Strikeforce with varying degrees of success.

In May 2012, Lashley suffered the second loss of his career when he dropped a decision to James Thompson at Super Fight League 3; he was inactive for a year following that fight. But now, he’s rebuilding. Earlier this month, Lashley scored a second-round keylock victory over Kevin Asplund at Titan FC 25, and last night he returned to action against Matthew Larson at Global Warrior Challenge: British Invasion card in Kansas City, Missouri, winning by rear-naked choke in 98 seconds. Check out the video above.

The victory bumped Lashley’s MMA record to 9-2, and you can look at it one of two ways: 1) Lashley is still a powerful, dangerous s.o.b., particularly in the first round of a fight; or 2) Larson put up about as much resistance as a Bubba Dummy, and the sooner we forget this match the better.

Ater the jump: Full results from the “British Invasion” card — which also featured Ricco Rodriguez, Andre Winner, Drew Fickett, Kendall Grove, and LC Davis — and video of Grove’s fight against Danny “Cheesecake Assassin” Mitchell.

This Bigfoot Silva/Taylor Swift Mashup is the Greatest Thing You Will Ever Witness Today [VIDEO]

It’s pretty much known by anyone who possesses a working set of ears that Taylor Swift has the vocal range of a walrus being strangled to death by a vibrating belt machine (as opposed to say, Warbringer, who are basically the Three Tenors of our generation). Still, that fact hasn’t stopped her from snatching up damn near every Billboard, CMT, MTV, BET, or Grammy award out there, because musical talent is something that is apparently determined by how many lovestruck 12 year-old girls buy your relationship-prostituting albums nowadays.

In any case, Ms. Swift and her voice have become quite the subject of parody on the Twitters and Youtubes lately, with her hit song “I Knew You Were Trouble” taking the brunt of it. While her duet with a screaming goat might be the most notorious of these parodies, Youtube user FreeFights4You has offered an alternative, MMA-themed take on the song that will surely ascend to the top of the Taylor Swift-based parodies for at least a week.

Featuring none other than UFC 160′s Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva on guest vocals, this parody might just be the greatest thing you will ever witness today. I mean, it’s no “baby monkey riding on a pig,” but what will ever top that slice of fried gold, honestly?

Now if only the UFC would quit being so stubborn and start accepting fan-made promos like “Nick Diaz: Crazy, Shirtless Mofo” and “Knowing About Horse Meat is Half the Battle,” we guaran-damn-tee that they would see their pay-per-view sales increased tenfold. TENFOLD WE TELLS YOU.

“Fight” of the Day: Pretty Much the Most Pathetic Goddamn Thing You Will Ever Witness

(Props: MiddleEasy via MMeh)

Never in our life did we think we would witness a combat sports performance more embarrassing than Nick “Turbo Tax” Capes’ dive against former NFL defensive end Ray Edwards last February. We were wrong. We were so goddamn wrong.

Perhaps all the years spent covering the travesty that is Bob Sapp have desensitized us to the art of the flop. Perhaps we’re just getting too old for this shit. But in all of Sapp’s positively miserable performances, we never once saw him, as our buddies over at MiddleEasy so eloquently put it, “tap to a sprawl.” Sure, he’s tapped to strikes, a takedown, and been knocked out by a phantom punch or two in his time, but this…this is somehow worse.

Pro-Wrestling-Style Finishing Move of the Day: Anderson Ramos Wins Via Back Suplex Side Slam [VIDEO]

(Props: Giovani Brugnago via DamnSevern)

This quick ‘n’ nasty video was taken two Saturdays ago at a regional Brazilian promotion called Hawk Fight Championship, and features a dude named Anderson “Adele” Ramos (seriously?) knocking out his opponent with the kind of high-altitude body-slam that you don’t usually see outside of a pro-wrestling match. Though the move looked eerily familiar, I wasn’t sure what to call it, so I asked our resident pro-wrestling historian Seth Falvo if he could lend some assistance. After doing a bit of YouTube research, he directed me to this video of a “Back Suplex Side Slam,” and further explained via e-mail:

It turns out no one used it as a finisher/trademarked a name for it that I can tell. I checked Undertaker, Dr Death, Bam Bam, Backlund, Taz, Kane, DDP…fucking no one named it anything. Vince McMahon’s famous “Whattamaneuver!” is probably it’s unofficial name.”

So there you have it. The Back Suplex Side Slam. Cue shooting star/piano music.

[VIDEO] Get Your First Look at Some of the Female Participants Trying Out for ‘The Ultimate Fighter 18′

If you recall, the tryouts for The Ultimate Fighter 18: Rousey vs. Zingano transpired earlier this week, featuring such talent as Tara Larosa, Shayna Bazler and the incorrigible Kim Couture. Today, however, we actually get to take a first look at some of the lesser known ladies trying out for the groundbreaking season, as well as some of the veterans, courtesy of our friends over at MMAFighting. The most surprising appearance? Tonya Evinger, who I was positive had taken up a career in professional bull riding some years ago. Learnin’ something everyday.

With contestants spanning across all 50 states and even our neighbors to the North, the Grand Ballroom of the Palace Station Hotel was positively packed with young, excitable talent looking to prove themselves on the world’s biggest stage. Check out the video above, and let us know who you think we will be seeing come September 4th in the comments section.

[VIDEO] Pat Barry Completely Loses His Sh*t Celebrating Rose Namajunas’ Win at Invicta FC 5

It’s a pretty well known fact that UFC heavyweight Pat Barry is a pretty eccentric guy. The same can be said for his girlfriend, Invicta FC strawweight Rose “Thug” Namajunas — in fact, it’s probably what drew them to each other in the first place.

Anyway, Rose recently scored her second professional win via 12-second flying armbar at last weekend’s Invicta FC 5, as you well know. While we were thrilled for her for obvious reasons, our excitement paled in comparison to that of “HD,” who proceeded to jump up from his ringside seat and leap onto the cage like he had just finished stomping a mudhole in Christian Morecraft following Rose’s big win. Thank God there were no small children in his way, or we may very well have witnessed a massacre worse than Cyborg vs. Muxlow that night.

Barry’s (literally) over-the-top celebration should come as no surprise to those of us who have seen him corner Namajunas before, but damn, I just really want what those two have. Not love, I’m talking about brutal knockout power and the ability to pull off flying armbars. I can force someone to love me with those two things.

After the jump: A video of Namajunas’ brilliant submission from Invicta FC 5, because big whoop wanna fightaboutit?
