Must See: Michelle Nicolini Destroys Tammi Musumeci’s Arm at 2014 World Jiu-Jitsu Championships, Musumeci Refuses to Tap

(Props: Born to Roll)

Michelle Nicolini is a 32-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu phenom who picked up her seventh World Jiu-Jitsu Championship title on Saturday in Long Beach, California. Nicolini faced Tammi Musumeci in the women’s featherweight black belt finals, and was behind on points with one minute remaining in the match. Then, she snagged Musumeci’s left arm and pulled it across her back in a gnarly omoplata-hammerlock-thingy that reportedly dislocated Musumeci’s shoulder and elbow, and should have ended the fight.

It didn’t. Musumeci held on to the bell, and though she lost the match 13-6 she was given a standing ovation for her heart. Full results from the 2014 World Jiu-Jitsu Championships are right here. Fun fact: Nicolini is 2-0 as a strawweight MMA fighter — with both wins by first-round armbar — and recently signed with Legacy FC. Keep an eye out for her.

Quick Hit of the Day: Marcelo Garcia Reveals the Source of His Knowledge

Joe Rogan *may* have uploaded this. VidProps: YouTube Person

Marcelo Garcia took gold in the 82kg Middleweight division this past weekend at the BJJ Worlds (and we’ll probably mention this esoteric tournament again, with its bizarre rules against hammerfists, soccer kicks, and striking in general). It was Garcia’s fifth gold at the Mundials, putting him on a very short list of grappling legends.

So where did Marcelinho learn his deadly moves? Check out CagePotato’s Quick Hit of the Day for the answer. But we bet you already know.

Heads Up: The 2011 IBJJF World Jiu Jitsu Championships Are Under Way

(Cyborg Santos gives Amanda Lucas a guided tour of the mat)

Since the very beginning of our sport, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been a critical component of Mixed Martial Arts competition (spoiler- Royce Gracie wins). Odds are good that unless you’re a diehard republican or an MMA judge, you share at least some appreciation for the subtle art of torquing limbs and rendering folks unconscious. Good news for you- the 2011 Mudials go down this weekend.

Competition in the lower belt rankings began on Thursday. In the video above you can check out Strikeforce’s 145lb women’s champion Cris Santos slam MMA fighter/George Lucas’s daughter Amanda Lucas in every manner possible en route to claiming a gold medal in the purple belt division. It is a little surprising that the most intimidating female fighter on the planet is competing as a purple belt, but not surprising enough that we would ask her about it to her face. ‘Grats to Cyborg for the medal and for finding a way to keep busy while her fighting career is inexplicably left to die on the vine.

Info on how to watch the event is after the break.

Must See: Andre Galvao Jiu-Jitsu Pwnage

In his first match at last weekend’s World Jiu-Jitsu Championships, Andre Galvao was paired up against someone who clearly wasn’t in his league. What followed was an unforgettably ridiculous display of grappling domination, in which Galvao turned the Mundials into his own personal And 1 Mixtape of jiu-jitsu. At the 1:09-1:17 and 1:42-1:56 marks he’s basically breakdancing on his opponent’s back, and we’d like to see more MMA fighters do the somersault guard-pass that Galvao pulls off at 1:35. Props to StoryLords.tv.
