Gallery: Some MMA Personalities You May Have Seen Wandering Around Comic-Con in Disguise This Week

(Titanium Spongebob Squarepants FTW.)

With the growing popularity of MMA, many of the sport’s personalities are recognized wherever they go, making it nearly impossible to enjoy a normal uninterrupted day or night out. Wearing disguises would just draw more attention to them, so they typically just deal with their newfound celebrity and try to maintain a semblance of normalcy when engaging in their daily activities like eating out, shopping and going to the movies with fans constantly interrupting them to ask for photos and autographs.

Fortunately for a lot of them this week whose inner nerd craved anonymity amongst fellow geeks, Comic-Con was the perfect opportune venue to blend in by wearing ridiculous costumes as disguises. You may be surprised how many MMA luminaries were out mingling with the crowds at the annual convention throughout the week.

Nerd Alert: Jon Jones, Aaron Simpson Engage in Twitter War

("Blog about *this*, motherfucker." PicProps: Us?)

We’re already on record with our belief that Twitter is great for us media types and not so great for the MMA fighters who think they are using it to establish a personal “brand” but are really just broadcasting the worst parts of themselves to the public on a regular basis. We also already told you that Jon Jones is not only obsessively following upcoming opponent Ryan Bader on Twitter, but he’s also shadowing many of his friends, training partners and followers. You know what we love? We love when two seeminlgy unrelated stories from the past come together to make a new story in the present, like this …

UFC middleweight Aaron Simpson – who is currently training with Bader – sent a fairly innocuous tweet earlier this week essentially saying he thought Bader was ready to go against Jones at UFC 126. Naturally, Jones saw it and he did not appreciate it.

Phil Baroni = The Truth

(Still the best eva. Props: Genghis Con)

From a recent interview with the New York Bad Ass:

NS: If you could fight any celebrity, past or present, who would it be and why?
PB: I don’t fucking know, I don’t give a shit.
NS: Besides pork fried rice, what else do you like to eat?
PB: Pussy.
NS: Are you still training with Hammer House? If so, are you going to corner Mark Coleman again in UFC 100?
PB: If he asks me to corner him, I will. He always corners me when I ask him to. We never train together, none of us Hammer House guys. The Hammer House is Coleman’s porch. It has a punching bag on it. I’ve never been to Coleman’s house. I think Randleman stole his punching bag by the way. So there isn’t much of a reason for me to go.
NS: Are you a nerd at heart, like play video games or read comics?
PB: Fuck no. I hate that shit with a passion. I think it’s gay as fuck and a waste of time.
NS: Do you have any advice for the nerds on how to get girls?
PB: Do steroids, lift heavy weights, get contacts, go tanning. And stop playing all those gay fucking video games. You can’t get pussy in front of a TV playing games with your geeky friends. Go out to night clubs and bars, hit the beach. If you got money, floss. Whatever you do, don’t be yourself.

Hear that, nerds? Be more like this guy. You can read the rest of this illuminating interview here. Baroni takes on Joe Riggs at Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields on June 6th.
