(Subscribe to CagePotato on YouTube!)

Pat Barry and Rose Namajunas are currently vacationing in Rose’s ancestral homeland of Lithuania, and because they’re awesome, they sent us this video postcard featuring some lake-frolicing. (Nice gator-crawl, Rose!) As usual, there is a cameo appearance by a bunch of potatoes. To see more of their adventures, be sure to follow them on twitter @HYPEORDIE and @RoseNamajunas.

(Subscribe to CagePotato on YouTube!)

Before she returns to the cage at Invicta FC 6 on Saturday night, our favorite strawweight Rose Namajunas — a.k.a., The Honey Badger — took some time to answer a few questions submitted by the Potato Nation. (The role of CP’s comment section was played by Pat Barry. Well done, Pat.) Follow Rose on twitter @RoseNamajunas, and be sure to tune into Invicta FC 6 on Saturday!

UFC 161: Evans vs. Henderson — Main Card Results and Commentary

(No shoving? No forehead bumping? No repeated demands that one fighter treat the other like a bitch? Come on guys, you gotta give us *something* here. / Photo courtesy of MMAFighting.com)

The UFC makes its first stop in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, tonight, and yes, the lineup is somewhat garbage-ass. That’s what happens when you lose your original main event and then your co-main event due to injuries. But the show must go on, and we’ll be here liveblogging the pay-per-view broadcast all night, whether you join us or not. (Please join us. Please?)

On the menu for this evening: Rashad Evans and Dan Henderson try to avoid the gaping chasm of irrelevance, Roy Nelson goes for his fourth-straight knockout against Stipe Miocic, and highly regarded women’s bantamweight prospects Alexis Davis and Rosi Sexton make their debuts against each other. Plus, Pat Barry might leg-kick Shawn Jordan to death, and Ryan Jimmo might do the robot. Fingers crossed.

Handling our play-by-play is Anthony Gannon, who will be stacking live results from the UFC 161 main card after the jump beginning at 10 p.m. ET. Refresh the page every few minutes for all the latest, and throw in your own analysis in the comments section.

CagePotato Databomb #11: How Big is the Average UFC Fighter?

(Click on the chart for the full size version. For previous Databombs, click here.)

By Reed Kuhn, @Fightnomics

Wondering if you’re “big” or just “average?” Just how big is average for a UFC fighter? Well that depends on the weight class obviously. Here’s the current UFC roster of fighters put into divisions with average (mean) height and reach (mean averages based on UFC Roster as of June, 2013). Next time someone says a fighter is “big for their weight class,” check the facts first.

The range of UFC divisions spans 140 pounds, which on average translates into about one foot of additional height and reach from the Flyweights to the Heavyweights. It’s important to note there is plenty of variability that occurs with in each weight class. Bodies are tall and lean or sometimes short and stocky. And the larger the division is, the wider the range of maximums and minimums. Just think of heavyweights Stefan Struve and Pat Barry facing off with over a one foot height differential in the same weight class.

Tim Sylvia is Still Chasing That UFC Dream, Wants Either Frank Mir or Pat Barry for His Never-Gonna-Happen Return

(Sure, “Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Champion” is a respectable title in its own right, but it just doesn’t carry as much weight at the Playboy Mansion, you know?)

If there’s one thing you can say about former UFC heavyweight champion and Depends spokesperson Tim Sylvia, it’s that the SOB is persistent. Although his once successful MMA career has become little more than a series of punctuated jokes nowadays — most of which revolve around his fat, fatty, “Fatty Boom-Boom” fatness – “The Maine-iac” will simply not be denied his rightful place back in the UFC’s heavyweight division no matter how many times Dana White pisses in his cornflakes.

But the main issue preventing Sylvia’s UFC aspirations from coming to fruition is one that he doesn’t seem to realize: relevant wins. In the past few years, Sylvia has crushed a few cans (and a professional bodybuilder) in unimpressive fashion, been decapitated in 9 seconds by an aging boxer, dropped a decision to Satoshi Ishii, and been spared a loss on a loosely-defined technicality in his completely unnecessary fourth fight with Andrei Arlovski at OneFC 5. Yet despite all this, Sylvia is still holding onto the hopes that he will end his mixed martial arts career “where it started,” which for all intents and purposes is the UFC. He spoke with MMAWeekly:

I don’t know what is going to happen in the future of the UFC heavyweight division. Ideally I would like to finish out my career where it started and that is in the UFC. There’s great fights out there for me and I’d like to put on a great show for the fans on the biggest stage there is, and that’s obviously the UFC.

And who would Boom-Boom like to face in his glorious return, you ask? For starters, Frank Mir, who infamously snatched Sylvia’s title (and his arm) at UFC 48: Payback, otherwise known as the event wherein Ken Shamrock scored his last relevant win…over Kimo. But the second name on Sylvia’s hit list (just beating out Jared from the Subway commercials because “I ate a thousand of those subs and didn’t lose a fucking pound.”), might surprise you:

Video: Pat Barry Armbarred His Doppelganger at a Colorado BJJ Tournament Over the Weekend [SCANNERS.GIF]

Compliments of “HD’s” Facebook Page, here’s a video of kickboxing powerhouse — and now, submission savant — Pat Barry competing and winning at the 4th Annual Colorado State Championships — Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Submission Grappling last Saturday. We cannot emphasize enough that we are not trolling here.

In fact, the only thing more beautiful than the armbar Barry is able to secure starting at the 4:05 mark is that it came following at least two eyes pokes and roughly three minutes of positional dominance by his opponent, who eerily resembled…Pat Barry. #HEADSPLOSIONGIF

While it wasn’t exactly as flashy an armbar as the one Barry’s girlfriend, Rose Namajunas, pulled off in her last fight, it’s great to see that Barry’s ground game is beginning to evolve to the level of his striking game nonetheless. His newly-displayed ground skills will surely be put to the test when he faces off against Shawn Jordan at UFC 161 in June, so let’s hope he’s up to the challenge. Not that we have a dog in this fight or anything.

Barry’s next match would be an altogether different story, unfortunately. We wish we could tell you that Barry fought the good fight, and that he secured a silver medal with his effort. We wish we could tell you that — but the Colorado BJJ scene is no fairytale world.

[VIDEO] Pat Barry Completely Loses His Sh*t Celebrating Rose Namajunas’ Win at Invicta FC 5

It’s a pretty well known fact that UFC heavyweight Pat Barry is a pretty eccentric guy. The same can be said for his girlfriend, Invicta FC strawweight Rose “Thug” Namajunas — in fact, it’s probably what drew them to each other in the first place.

Anyway, Rose recently scored her second professional win via 12-second flying armbar at last weekend’s Invicta FC 5, as you well know. While we were thrilled for her for obvious reasons, our excitement paled in comparison to that of “HD,” who proceeded to jump up from his ringside seat and leap onto the cage like he had just finished stomping a mudhole in Christian Morecraft following Rose’s big win. Thank God there were no small children in his way, or we may very well have witnessed a massacre worse than Cyborg vs. Muxlow that night.

Barry’s (literally) over-the-top celebration should come as no surprise to those of us who have seen him corner Namajunas before, but damn, I just really want what those two have. Not love, I’m talking about brutal knockout power and the ability to pull off flying armbars. I can force someone to love me with those two things.

After the jump: A video of Namajunas’ brilliant submission from Invicta FC 5, because big whoop wanna fightaboutit?

Interview: Rose Namajunas Discusses Thug Life, Pat Barry’s Charm, And Her Invicta FC 5 Fight This Friday

(“I think putting ourselves in dangerous situations makes our lives exciting.” / Photo courtesy of Denise Truscello @ WireImage via Getty)

By Ben Goldstein

With her fight against Kathina Catron leading off the Invicta FC 5 prelims this Friday, we called up CP’s favorite (and only!) sponsored fighter Rose Namajunas to get to know the woman a little better. So what did she have to say about pre-fight nerves, Pat Barry, and mean-mugging strangers at the grocery store? Read on and find out. And be sure to follow Rose on twitter @RoseNamajunas for more updates from her life.

CAGEPOTATO.COM: First of all, who gave you the nickname “Thug”?

Rose Namajunas: My neighborhood friends. When I was little, I was the only white girl, I was smaller than everyone else, and for some reason I just acted harder than everybody else — just fearless, you know? So they kind of dubbed me that because of the intimidating scowl I always had on my face. That’s what gave me that name.

I’ve noticed that scowl before your fights, and even in your weigh-ins. Do you have to get yourself into that Thug-mode — is it a separate persona — or are you that intense all the time?

That’s just one aspect of my personality. I have a playful, fun-loving side, and I also have a very sensitive and emotional side to my personality. But it’s definitely one of the main things that most strangers will pick off of me from a first impression, that I really come off as this intimidating type of person. Like I said, it’s just one aspect of my personality, but I’m always practicing a staredown with strangers. Even going to the grocery store, I might mean-mug somebody just to see if I get a weird feeling from them. It’s practice. And I think that’s one thing that fighters don’t really practice that much, is their intimidation and their mind games, and the intimidating looks that you can give to people. It really can win or lose you the fight if you have that down. Mike Tyson was phenomenal at that game, of intimidating his opponents — he won the fight before it even started.

Has a stranger ever tried to fight you because you were looking at them funny in the grocery store?

Pat Barry Gets UFC 161 Bout Booked, Celebrates By Dancing In The Snow, Shirtless, With Girlfriend, Who Is Also Shirtless

MMA Junkie is reporting that heavyweight sluggers Pat Barry and Shawn Jordan are booked against one another for June 15th’s UFC 161. Both men got back in the win column in their last fights with nasty stoppages over Shane Del Rosario and Mike Russow, respectively.

The two share an opponent in Lavar Johnson, the last man to beat Barry (by first round TKO at UFC on FOX 3) and the same that Jordan was able to submit with a second round keylock back at Strikeforce Challengers 18. Undaunted by this fact, Barry and his girlfriend, fighter Rose “The Riveter” Namajunas, took to the streets of Milwaukee to celebrate the booking with their own Harlem Shake video while Dave Begel quietly masturbated off camera. Yeah, yeah, we know – Harlem Shake videos are so, over.

Well, the stocky Barry acting a fool in his underwear never goes out of style, especially now that he’s bringing his girl in on the action. After the jump, more videos of the couple acting goofy.

Classic Footage: Pat Barry Storms Through His First Three Opponents, Needs Just Six Kicks to Do It

(Props: AlanBrunet12 via reddit/mma)

In light of a brutal leg-kick domination at Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine, this old clip from “Countdown to UFC 115″ seems especially relevant. UFC heavyweight Pat Barry‘s professional MMA career began in 2008 with three consecutive KO/TKO’s in the Midwestern regional promotion Combat USA — the first two by leg kicks, the other by head kick, all in the first round. As Barry describes it, “I threw six kicks, three fights…more money than I’ve ever made in my entire life.” Barry was quickly snatched up by the UFC, where he did the same damn thing to Dan Evensen at UFC 92.

Bonus video after the jump: Pat Barry totally hijacks an MMAFightCorner interview with his girlfriend Rose Namajunas. It must take a lot of patience to love that man.
