‘TUF Brazil’ Roster Features Rodrigo Damm, Delson Heleno, 30 Other Dudes

(But there *will* be subtitles at some point, right?)

The full cast of 16 featherweights and 16 middleweights for the first international edition of The Ultimate Fighter has just been released. I’m not as well-versed in the Brazilian prospect scene as I should be, but two names definitely jump out here: Rodrigo Damm, the Sengoku/Strikeforce veteran (and brother of Carina), and former IFL standout Delson Helano, who has won 10 of his last 11 fights.

You can check out the full cast list after the jump. TUF Brazil is set for a March 25th debut on the Globo channel in Brazil, and will also be streamed on UFC.com and broadcast on FUEL via tape-delay. Tune in, and find out which two fighters will be buying their mothers a house

“Strikeforce Challengers 15″ Aftermath: Lopsided Beatdowns in the 209? Business As Usual.

“Found it!” Fighting was quickly resumed after Damm recovered his lost contact lens. (Pic Props: Strikeforce.com)

Strikeforce Challengers 15 marked the promotion’s first event since Zuffa seized control, but with the exception of the addition of elbows on the ground, there were no noticeable changes to the event which took place in homey Stockton, CA. Mauro, Quadros, and Miletich made themselves at home in the commentary booth and the broadcast had the same production feel we’re accustomed to. The only thing unfamiliar about the event may have been some of the fighters themselves, but that’s par for the course for the Challengers series. Strikeforce’s endeavor to showcase the up-and-comers in the sport may not always result in overly competitive fights, but the event did put several fresh faces on the map for those unwilling or unable to follow the sport to its lower levels.

Strikeforce Challengers Event in Stockton Revealed to be April Fool’s Day Prank

(“That whole Zuffa thing was just a gag too, right? No? That one was for real? Rats.” Pic: Prommanow)

From a Strikeforce press release

STOCKTON, Calf. — Strikeforce CEO Scot Coker held a press conference here on Friday to announce that tonight’s scheduled Challengers event at the Stockton Arena was just an elaborate April Fool’s Day joke, one that he admitted had gone too far.

Saying the whole idea was “just a goof,” Coker said he was surprised more people didn’t catch on sooner. “Come on, like we’re going to host an event in the most miserable city in the country, headlined by Rodrigo Damm?” Coker said. “Not even Showtime would go for that crap.”

The California State Athletic Commission has released payout figures for Saturday’s Strikeforce event, with headliner Frank Shamrock taking home a full 58% of the $633,445 disclosed payroll. And it looks like Strikeforce had to severely underpay a few of its fighters to make up for F-Sham’s hefty purse. Also, they don’t seem to like round numbers. The salaries are below, with some thoughts after the jump…

Some Fighters Booked to Fight Other Fighters, According to New Reports

Jens Pulver WEC MMA
(Better get the next ice-pack ready. Photo courtesy of Yardbarker.)

Alright, let’s get to it…

— After an injury forced Josh Thomson to drop out of his Strikeforce rematch with Gilbert Melendez, a replacement has reportedly been found, according to The Fight Network. Taking on Melendez at Saturday’s "Shamrock vs. Diaz" event will be Rodrigo Damm, an 8-2 veteran of Bodog Fight and Sengoku. Damm hasn’t competed since last August, when he was choked out by Eiji Mitsuoka at Sengoku Fourth Battle.

— Winless since his WEC debut against Cub Swanson in December 2007, Jens Pulver will be given another chance to score a victory at WEC 41 (June 7th, Sacramento). Lil’ Evil will be facing 20-year-old up-and-comer Josh "The Fluke" Grispi (12-1), who has gone 2-0 in the WEC with first-round stoppages over Mark Hominick and Micah Miller. WEC 41 will be headlined by the rematch between Urijah Faber and Mike Brown.

TUF 7 winner Amir Sadollah has an opponent for his much-delayed return at UFC 101 (August 8th, Philadelphia). MMA Weekly confirms that Sadollah’s welterweight debut will come against Johny Hendricks, a 5-0 transfer from the WEC’s defunct 170-pound division who won a unanimous decision over Alex Serdyukov at WEC 39 last month. Also on the card will be another welterweight bout between Tamdan McCrory (who’s coming off a submission victory over Ryan Madigan at UFC 96 in March) and John Howard (who most recently won a Fight of the Night bonus for his split-decision victory over Chris Wilson at UFC 94 in January). UFC 101 will be headlined by the lightweight title scrap between BJ Penn and Kenny Florian.

Hot Fighter Alert: Carina Damm

CD

Carina “Barbie Girl” Damm just won her third fight in a row with her win over Sofie Bagherdai at FFF 4 – Call of the Wild on April 3rd in L.A. We love watching chicks fight, but especially love it when they’re kinda’ hot and have an accent — and not, like, a valley girl accent.

Vitals: Brazilian, 5’4″, 120-ish, likes wearing pig tails
Record: 8 wins (5 via subs, 3 decisions), 3 losses (2 via subs, 1 decision)
Noteworthy: Trains with her brother, 7-1 fighter Rodrigo Damm. She appeared in a spread for Japanese Playboy — clothed, unfortunately.

Carina’s win streak started with a decision win over Molly Helsel, which also broke “Barbie Girl” out of a two-loss slump. Parts 2 & 3 of the fight, plus more pics are after the jump. Enjoy.
