Oh, Praise the Lord: Miesha Tate to Appear in ESPN’s Next ‘Body Issue’

(“For this first shot, Miesha, I’m going to need you to disregard everything you know about the cleanliness of weight room floors.” Photo via MMAJam.)

Well, if there’s one good thing that has come out of the Cat Zingano-knee injury debacle, it’s this.

Likely to promote her coaching gig and subsequent rematch with Ronda Ronda on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter, MMAJunkie is reporting that Miesha “Cupcake” Tate will be featured in ESPN’s fifth edition of The Body Issue, which hits stands July 12. July twelfth. That’s JULY 12.

So UFC.com just released the promotion’s “unofficial” picks for the best five fights of 2013 so far (how that fan fight at UFC 161 didn’t make the list is anyone’s guess), which can only mean that the time of great debate is upon us once again. From hottest pornstar girlfriend to favorite non-Rocky fight film of all time, the past couple of weeks have been a veritable hotbed of master-debating here at CP, so we expect you Taters to bring the same hellfire and vitriol to this list as you would any other. Let’s get to the nominees…

5. Ronda Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche – UFC 157

How They Described ItIn the first women’s bout to ever take place in the UFC
Octagon, bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and challenger Liz Carmouche made history with style. Yet despite Rousey’s status as the Queen of the sport, Carmouche nearly spoiled the party when she had the champion seconds away from a submission defeat. In the end though, it was Rousey prevailing late in the first round with her trademark armbar.

Ronda Rousey’s Mother Criticizes Last-Minute Announcement of Tate Replacing Zingano on TUF & in UFC Title Bout

(Somehow, she’s still scary in this photo)

So, remember when the UFC announced that Cat Zingano had to pull out of coaching The Ultimate Fighter opposite bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey as well as out of her title match with “Rowdy” and would be replaced by Meisha Tate. Everyone, except for Meisha Tatewas probably pretty bummed about Zingano’s injury but no one really seemed to care about how or when the UFC let the world, and Rousey know.

Well, according to Ronda’s mother Dr. Ana Maria Rousey DeMars, a former international Judo competitor, the UFC pulled a Urijah/Cruz/Barao-type announcement with Ronda being Faber in this instance, Meisha being Barao and finding out before Rousey that she would replace Zingano (the “Cruz” in this scenario) as coach and opponent. Alright, that messy analogy aside, Dr. Rousey DeMars used her blog to take issue with her daughter getting surprised and finding out later than Meisha that the two would fight one another again for the sake of providing a dramatic television moment for The Ultimate Fighter.

“When I heard about the last-minute switch in coaches for the show Ronda is on, my first thought was, ‘That’s a pretty dick move,’ Ana Maria wrote.

“Not so much replacing Cat, who was injured (ouch!) but keeping it from Ronda until the last minute. If you’re going to have an athletic competition, then it should be fair. Among other things, that means you don’t give one competitor information that the other doesn’t have. You don’t let one player know something weeks in advance of the other player.”

Video: Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate Discuss Their Mutual Admiration/Dislike Ahead of TUF 18

Now that it’s been confirmed that Miesha Tate will be replacing the injured Cat Zingano on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter, the UFC has hustled together a hype video with Tate and Ronda Rousey trading compliments, with just a dash of hostility. Some highlights…

Rousey: “I’ve always respected Miesha as a fighter, and I’ve always respected her as an athlete. How we feel personally has nothing really to do with that. In fact I’ve said it within the same sentence, that I think that she’s entirely legit, but I don’t really feel bad about hitting her.”

Tate: “Ronda, obviously, is a phenomenal fighter, she’s undefeated…as a person, I don’t think she’s quite as stellar.”

Rousey: “I’m actually honored to be coaching opposed her on this show, and I think that this is really what was fated to happen, and I’m really lucky to have a rival like her. If I didn’t have her around, I would suffer.”

Tate: “We have our definite disagreements, but I give her credit for what she’s done and where she’s got in the sport of women’s MMA. Without her, I don’t think we’d be as far so I do value that. But at the same time, I feel like I’m right on her heels, and I want what she has.”

Some of you may already be looking forward to the entertaining level of tension that the Ronda/Miesha pairing will create on the show, to which I’d reply — wasn’t Jon Jones vs. Chael Sonnen supposed to be WILD and CRAZY as well? And all I remember from that season was Chael delivering some speech about how a group of guys were asked to walk a plank on the ground, and they all did it with no problem, and then the plank was raised up in the air, and nobody would do it, but it was the same action, it’s just that the environment had changed, or something? Come on, somebody has to know what I’m talking about.

Bottom line: The only way to guarantee drama on TUF 18 is to cast this lady as an assistant coach.

Knee Injury Forces Cat Zingano Out of TUF 18 Before the First Damn Day of Shooting; Miesha Tate to Take Her Spot Against Ronda Rousey

(You really want to do this again, Miesha? Really?? / Photo via Getty Images)

Over the last three years, “TUF Coach” has become the most dangerous occupation on earth, with Tito Ortiz, Brock Lesnar, Dominick Cruz, Vitor Belfort, and Shane Carwin having to go home due to health reasons before they could face off against their reality TV rivals. But at least those guys were able to make it through a few episodes’ worth of shooting before bowing out. Because this right here? This is unprecedented.

Kevin Iole broke the news earlier this evening that UFC women’s bantamweight #1 contender and prospective TUF 18 coach Cat Zingano suffered a knee injury in training earlier this month, and didn’t even make it to day one of shooting. The season’s other coach, Ronda Rousey, learned the bad news today when she walked on set…AND SAW MIESHA TATE JUST CHILLING, LEANING AGAINST A POST. (Ed. note: The detail about the post has been added by CP for dramatic affect.) Anyway, here’s the story, via Yahoo! Sports:

Filming began Tuesday for Season 18 of the UFC’s reality series, “The Ultimate Fighter,” with a gigantic and unexpected switch.

Unbeaten Cat Zingano, who was slated to coach opposite women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, injured a knee and was replaced as coach by long-time Rousey rival Miesha Tate.

Rousey did not know that Zingano was injured – UFC president Dana White said it had been a tightly kept company secret since Zingano injured her right knee during a May 16 workout – or that Tate had been brought in to replace her, until the opening scenes of the show were filmed on Tuesday.

When Tate came out, Rousey was clearly stunned and she stormed out of the UFC training center, searching for White. She later said she was angry because she thought Tate was replacing her.

Rousey, though, was pleased with the change.

[VIDEO] The Only Thing Scarier Than Rin Nakai’s Latest Wardrobe Choice is Her Grappling Game

You know, in a world where even female fighters are valued for their sex appeal as much as their actual abilities, you’d think that an undefeated sexpot like Rin Nakai would be getting a lot more press. The similarities between Nakai and current UFC women’s champion Ronda Rousey are astounding, yet their career trajectories as of late could not be more different. Undefeated bantamweight submission specialists? Check. Willing to fall back on their sex appeal to promote a fight? Check and…uh…check, I guess. Showed up to their last weigh-in wearing bunny-themed lingerie, complete with ears and a thong? Point Nakai.

Sure, Rin’s look appeals to a *very* specific niche, but the woman’s shameless self-promotional skills and morbid sense of sexuality (the term “fearection” comes to mind) is something that should not only be recognized by us lamestream media types, but held in high regard. Let us not forget that we live in a society that has yet to rid itself of the personification of cancer that is Jose Canseco.

Anyway, join us after the jump to check out a video of Nakai rocking an outfit straight out of Final Fantasy or some shit and strangling Brenda Gonzales at Pancrase 247 over the weekend.

[VIDEO] Ronda Rousey Gets Her Spar On With Three-Division World Boxing Champ Vic Darchinyan

(Meh, we liked it more when Carmen Electra was involved.)

You see, Potato Nation? Boxing and MMA can co-exist without controversy.

Although the stand up game has been little more than a means to an end (specifically, an end involving the involuntary disintegration of your elbow) in the MMA career of Ronda Rousey thus far, the UFC’s inaugural women’s champion was recently videotaped sparring with three-division world boxing champion Vic Darchinyan nonetheless. And to her credit, Rousey looked a hell of a lot more competent in the striking department than the one-trick pony she has been made out to be by many of the sport’s fans and pundits alike.

It’s a skill that will come in handy against Cat Zingano if Ronda values that moneymaker of hers. Rousey and Zingano are set to coach opposite one another on the upcoming co-ed season of The Ultimate Fighter, which kicks off September 4th on FOX Sports 1. Then again, if the odds are any indication, Rousey has already beaten Zingano by first round armbar, so why she’s even bothering to train is beyond us. Another upcoming tastefully nude photoshoot, perhaps? PERHAPS? TAKE THE HINT, RONDA.

Titol Recall: Cris Cyborg’s Management Now Blames Zuffa’s Tight Pockets For Blowing the Ronda Rousey Fight

(“With all respect dued, Dana, *this* is our counter offer. Also, what does counter offer mean?”)

Although both parties have since moved onto bigger, better things (if you happen to consider crushing cans for Invicta FC ”bigger” or “better”), MMA fans cannot seem to get over the botched negotiations between Cris Cyborg and Ronda Rousey that eventually led to the cancellation of what would have been the biggest fight in WMMA history at UFC 157. You know the story: Rousey was unwilling to even consider holding the fight at a catchweight, and it was physically impossible for Cyborg to make 135 pounds (or so we were told). Both fighters were left spinning their tires in the mud, that is, until Tito Ortiz showed up and everything really went to hell.

Cyborg was eventually released from her UFC contract, and Rousey went on to become the UFC’s first women’s champ, an influential and inspirational figure in female sports, and a universal sex symbol. So clearly, Tito Ortiz: Manager crushed another one out of the park. But if you were one of those fans who blamed Ortiz (and/or the rest of Cyborg’s Primetime 360 management team) for screwing things up in the first place, you should first turn your crosshairs on the people they were negotiating with. Because according to Ortiz’s Primetime 360 team partner, George Prajin, weight wasn’t even the issue, it was those damn Zuffa tightwads! MMAFighting’s Mike Chiappetta reports:

While (match weight) was at the center of most conversations in the media regarding the inability to make the Cyborg-Rousey fight, it was not the deal-breaker it’s been reported to be.

During the ongoing negotiations, which lingered for about two months, the promotion agreed to pay for the services of a dieting and nutrition consultant like Dolce. But there were other points that the two sides could not agree on.

The biggest issue, according to Cyborg’s management firm Primetime 360, was Zuffa treating Cyborg as a bit player rather than an event co-star.

Ronda Rousey Is Tastefully Nude Once Again for Maxim’s Hot 100 [PHOTO]

(Props: Maxim via @RondaRousey. Click to enlarge.)

If you follow CagePotato on Facebook, this is old news by now — you saw this naked photo of Ronda Rousey in your newsfeed six hours ago, and you’re already spent. But in case you missed it, the UFC’s sexiest champion celebrated her #29 spot on this year’s Maxim Hot 100 by releasing an artfully shot black-and-white nude photo that may or may not actually be in the magazine. I wouldn’t know, and I don’t care enough to research it. But she looks even better here than she did in her last nude shoot, so big ups to Ronda.

By the way, coming in at #1 on the 2013 Maxim 100? Miley Cyrus. I know, it makes no fucking sense. Keep in mind that lists like these are generally comprised of famous women with upcoming projects to promote. Because if we were really putting together a list of women ranked by hotness alone, it would be dominated by random chicks from MeInMyPlace.com, and that just doesn’t sell magazines, I guess. Whatever. The bottom line is, another nude photo of Ronda Rousey exists in the world, and that makes today a good day.
