MMA for Zombies: 10 MMA Moves to Use and Avoid in the Zombie Apocalypse

Props: Zombie Cage Fighter

By CagePotato Contributer Jake “KillBurnDestroy” Richards

Let’s be real, no matter how trendy, no matter how played out, we all still fantasize about the zombie apocalypse on a daily basis. While there will always be the NRA member who has a weapons cache in their basement, some won’t be so fortunate. This one goes out to them.

Video: Yeah, Pat Barry’s Gonna Be Just Fine Against Stefan Struve

(Props: hypeordie via NonstopRocker03)

Well that’s one way to deal with a one-foot height disadvantage. And we all know that Stefan Struve is vulnerable to a good superman punch. Can Pat Barry actually pull that off when they meet at UFC on Versus 6 in October?

After the jump, things get even weirder. Like, uncomfortable-weird. Like, I’m not actually suggesting that you watch this next video.

Pay Attention, Kids: *This* Is How You Finish Your First Pro MMA Fight

(Vid: YouTube/RussBrew)

We gotta admit, we like the way this Russell Brewer kid rolls. Props to our associates at Middle Easy for the find on this vid, which is alleged to show Brewer’s professional MMA debut at an event called “24/7 Entertainment: Professional Cage Fighting” in Midland, Texas recently. As you can see, Brewer lowers the boom on unfortunate opponent Christopher Golden with a Superman punch-knee to the face combo during the first five seconds of the bout. Then Brewer stands over Golden’s stiff, lifeless body for a moment to admire his handiwork, to his credit not landing any unnecessary strikes on the fallen man. Then (if the name of the YouTube channel is any indication) Brewer takes it upon himself to post the video online, possibly creating the channel for this express purpose, since it’s the only video on there. And that, Potatoans, is your Wednesday morning crash course in how to be a 21st Century digital badass.

Brutal Knockout of the Day: Dude Gets Ruined (Twice) in Muay Thai Match

(Props: barochoc)

While cruising YouTube for Muay Thai knockout videos last night — hey, it’s my life and I can waste it any way I want — I came across this gem, filmed in Thailand a couple years ago. When you keep up a pace like that, it’s only a matter of time before one guy catches a bad one. Watch as Mr. Red Shorts lands one of the nastiest cobra punches ever recorded, then knocks Blue out again with a head kick as soon as the poor bastard gets to his feet. Two questions: 1) Did that referee graduate from the Yves Lavigne School of Letting Fighters Suffer Multiple Concussions? and 2) Who would be watching soccer at a time like this? Anyway, good morning everybody…

Videos: March ’09 MMA Highlights, GSP Is Superman + More

(Props: fightface.blogspot.com)

It’s the start of another month, which means it’s time to check out the latest highlight reel from Facey. The March ’09 edition features Matt Hamill‘s thunderous head-kick KO of Mark Munoz, David Gardner‘s "Hello Japan!" epic fail, Shane Carwin‘s triumph over Gabriel Gonzaga (watch the inset to see proof that Carwin’s victims always fall into an Indian-style sitting position), Jose Aldo‘s latest destruction, King Mo body-slamming another Asian, the Jackson/Jardine war, Mike Brown’s first title defense, and more. Great stuff, as always.

Below: lookoutawhale‘s new installment of the "Riddum Revenge" series, a short but sweet tribute to George St. Pierre’s superman punch.

Gomi + Trigg Win, Schultz Gets KTFO @ Sengoku 4

Frank Trigg Sengoku MMA
(In Trigg’s defense, he had just gotten out of the pool.)

Sengoku’s “Fourth Battle” went down today in Saitama, Japan, featuring the long-awaited returns of Takanori Gomi and Frank Trigg, and the first round of their lightweight grand prix. In a non-tourney main event bout, Gomi faced 5-1 Korean DEEP vet Seung Hwan Bang — who should have been steamrolled by the legendary “Fireball Kid” — but Bang hung in for all three rounds. Eventually, Gomi’s accurate striking and control of the fight’s pace convinced the judges to unanimously give him the win. Trigg’s opponent was Makoto Takimoto, a judoka and PRIDE vet who came into the fight with a 4-4 MMA record, and as with Gomi, the fight was a little more difficult than it should have been. Trigg dominated the standup and inflicted major damage from top positions on the ground, but Takimoto nearly caught Twinkle Toes in a kimura in the second round, and spent a lot of the third on top; still, it wasn’t enough to prevent the judges from giving Trigg the decision after the fight went the distance.

The first round of Sengoku’s lightweight tournament held some surprises as three big names were unceremoniously bounced out of the competition. The HIT Squad’s Clay French was tapped in 31 seconds via achilles lock by former Pancrase mainstay Satoru Kitaoka, and jiu-jitsu ace Rodrigo Damm also suffered a first-round submission at the hands of Eiji Mitsuoka. Former IFL lightweight champ Ryan Schultz, who was the biggest favorite to win his first GP match, got his lights put out by a superman-punch from Cage Force champ Mizuto Hirota in the second round of their fight. Full results after the jump; videos to come.

Chuck Norris-Approved Knockouts

Some highlights from the first season of Chuck Norris’s World Combat League. It’s basically just kickboxing in a large bowl, but since it has Chuck’s name on it, you know there’s gonna be a devastating roundhouse kick (it’s at the 1:39 mark), and that girl-on-girl Superman punch at 1:00 is beautiful.

Also, here’s Chuck Norris fighting a bear.
