Photo of the Day: Ronda Rousey Holds a Gun and Scowls on the Set of ‘The Expendables 3′

Well, we warned you. UFC women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey was recently in Bulgaria filming a role in the latest Expendables sequel, and we just came across this set photo proving that she does get to hold a weapon and be her usual cheery self. Boxing star Victor Ortiz was also rumored to be in the cast, and that appears to be him standing next to Rousey, just happy to be there.

Other than that, the photo gives us a glimpse of the film’s all-star cast, including Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Arnold Schwarzenegger (mostly blocked out by Antonio’s beanie), Dolph Lundgren, and Randy “The Natural, Except When It Comes to Acting” Couture, at least one of whom will likely be arm-barred by Rousey during the film to prove that, hey, this girl is tough.

Seduced by the Lure of Hollywood, Ronda Rousey Claims She Only Has Two Years of Fighting Left in Her

(Image via Ronda Rousey’s Facebook page)

Despite her relatively short time in the spotlight, Ronda Rousey is already a master manipulator of MMA media. From dissing shallow celebrities to floating her theories on pre-fight sex, Rousey has a way of making provocative statements that seem designed to get the MMA blogosphere churning out headlines. So keep in mind that this entire post is based on something that Ronda may have said only for the purposes of self-promotion. You’ve been warned.

Today’s eyebrow-raising Ronda-quote comes to us from MMAJunkie, who asked Rousey about her new acting career, which is starting with a role in The Expendables 3 and could continue with a supporting spot in Fast and Furious 7. As Rousey explained:

“I said from the beginning that I work in quadrennials,” Rousey told MMAjunkie.com. “I do four-year cycles. I think I’ve got two years left in me, realistically, if I’m going to do this like an Olympic run…

“I think one profession has a much-longer shelf life than the other,” Rousey said. “My last fight, I was kind of forced to face my mortality a little bit. I had an air of invincibility about me, and I was kind of forced to realize statistically there is a chance you could get permanently hurt or even die. There’s only so many times you can roll the dice.

“I am the best f—ing fighter in the world, and I truly believe that, but you’re still rolling the dice no matter who you are, so I do have to kind of set up an exit strategy. That’s what I did wrong in judo. I followed it all the way until the end, and I didn’t put any thought into after…

Ronda Rousey to Make Big-Screen Debut in ‘The Expendables 3′

(Photo by @brianbowensmith via @rondarousey / Click for full-size version)

Real-life action hero Ronda Rousey has booked her first film role, and luckily it has nothing to do with that Hunger Games bullshit. As revealed yesterday by Sylvester Stallone himself, the UFC women’s bantamweight champion will have a part in The Expendables 3, which begins filming next month in Los Angeles; boxing star Victor Ortiz will have a part as well. But don’t worry, the film won’t steal attention from Ronda’s day job. From an MMAFighting report:

According to UFC President Dana White, filming of the movie won’t impact Rousey’s scheduled title defense against Miesha Tate, scheduled on Dec. 28 in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

“That’s why I said, `Yes,” said White via text message. “Ronda listens, unlike others.”

Ouch. That remark was obviously directed at Edward James Olmos.
