[VIDEO] The Latest ‘TUF: Rousey vs. Tate’ Preview Features Guy-on-Girl Action, Chicken Wing Poses, Paint Fights (?)

You know, for being a fairly straightforward ad that clocks in at just over 30 seconds, the latest TUF: Rousey vs. Tate preview offers more than its fair share of interesting moments and head-scratching editorial choices. A few highlights…

00:00 - The preview hasn’t even started yet and already we feel like we’re trapped in one of those Technicolor iPod commercials.
00:04 - Wait…were those gloves covered in yellow paint?
00:08 - Nothing says “Intimidating” quite like MORE YELLOW PAINT.
00:12 - My God, the overediting. Who directed this clip, Michael Bay on PCP?
00:17 - Surely this season will play host to the greatest pool hijinks since Caddyshack.
00:20 - Ronda Rousey, rocking what’s become known as “The Chicken Wing” pose or “The Sassy Arm Triangle of Insecurity.” In any case, we’d appreciate it if women never posed like this again for the rest of eternity.
00:21 - Tate, rocking the cross-armed, no nonsense stance. Point Tate, although we would have preferred she went full on B-Boy style.
00:22 - “Mommy, I think these Hulk Hands are knockoffs. They keep melting whenever I play with them outside.”

[VIDEO] Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate Go Head-to-Head on SportsCenter, Zero Birds Flipped

After witnessing the non-fight that was Jake Ellenberger vs. Rory MacDonald at UFC on FOX 8, Dana White vehemently declared that “fights with trash talk always suck.” It was an odd thing to hear coming from a fight promoter, especially one who made enough money off the Ken Shamrock vs. Tito Ortiz trilogy alone to purchase a chalet bungalow overlooking the finest waterfalls in all of Elysium (TOPICAL!). Also, Jon Jones vs. Chael Sonnen was a thing that happened.

In any case, let’s hope that the second incarnation of Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate — which is being billed as the biggest rivalry in ALL of MMA Rrrrrrrr *catfight sounds* Snap into a Slim Jim oh yeah! — lives up to the additional pressure it is stacking on the already weighed-down shoulders of WMMA. In the past few days, the champ has flipped off Tate during a staredown, labeled her an Anti-Armenian and allegedly threatened to “cram an entire Lincoln Logs set up her boyfriend’s asspussy.” Allegedly. Anything less than an in-ring decapitation or double KO will be an utter disappointment at this point and the show hasn’t even started yet.

Thankfully, the two were able to keep it together during a recent face-to-face appearance on SportsCenter to hype their upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter. You’d think that these two have said all they can say about each other, yet Rousey is still finding new reasons to dislike Tate. Mainly, that smug look of (sexy) disinterest she is always wearing. If DW’s statements about how batshit crazy the both of them are this season have any truth to them, we should expect this conversation to play out several times over the course of TUF 18.

Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate II Slated for UFC 168, December 28th in Las Vegas

(“Hey, that woman might not be a bitch at all. That might just be her bitch-face, and…that’s okay.” / Photo via Getty)

MMA Junkie reports that Ronda Rousey‘s UFC title defense against her old pal Miesha Tate will happen at UFC 168, December 28th in Las Vegas. Yes, that’s a long friggin’ way off, but keep in mind that the two have been busy filming TUF 18: The Rashes, which won’t begin airing until September 4th. Rousey hasn’t competed since her first-round armbar victory over Liz Carmouche at UFC 157 in February, meaning that the champ will be carrying a full ten months of “cage corrosion” (as Mauro might say) when she has her rematch with Tate at the UFC’s year-end show.

Speaking of TUF 18, tensions on the set have been high, to say the least. Here’s Dana White with the hype-up we all knew was coming: “I’m telling you, they hate each other so bad,” he said. “You’re going to see a lot of blur marks. Every f—ing time [Ronda is] seeing her, she’s flipping off and getting in her face…It’s not reality bulls–t. It’s complete and total hatred. They hate each other.”

Careful, Dana, we’ve been hurt before. Meanwhile, Ronda’s original opponent/rival coach Cat Zingano has been busy getting her knee drained and stirring up shit on Twitter. So are you guys psyched for the Rousey vs. Tate rematch, or is this the most unnecessary do-over since Velasquez vs. Bigfoot 2?

Oh, Praise the Lord: Miesha Tate to Appear in ESPN’s Next ‘Body Issue’

(“For this first shot, Miesha, I’m going to need you to disregard everything you know about the cleanliness of weight room floors.” Photo via MMAJam.)

Well, if there’s one good thing that has come out of the Cat Zingano-knee injury debacle, it’s this.

Likely to promote her coaching gig and subsequent rematch with Ronda Ronda on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter, MMAJunkie is reporting that Miesha “Cupcake” Tate will be featured in ESPN’s fifth edition of The Body Issue, which hits stands July 12. July twelfth. That’s JULY 12.

Video: Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate Discuss Their Mutual Admiration/Dislike Ahead of TUF 18

Now that it’s been confirmed that Miesha Tate will be replacing the injured Cat Zingano on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter, the UFC has hustled together a hype video with Tate and Ronda Rousey trading compliments, with just a dash of hostility. Some highlights…

Rousey: “I’ve always respected Miesha as a fighter, and I’ve always respected her as an athlete. How we feel personally has nothing really to do with that. In fact I’ve said it within the same sentence, that I think that she’s entirely legit, but I don’t really feel bad about hitting her.”

Tate: “Ronda, obviously, is a phenomenal fighter, she’s undefeated…as a person, I don’t think she’s quite as stellar.”

Rousey: “I’m actually honored to be coaching opposed her on this show, and I think that this is really what was fated to happen, and I’m really lucky to have a rival like her. If I didn’t have her around, I would suffer.”

Tate: “We have our definite disagreements, but I give her credit for what she’s done and where she’s got in the sport of women’s MMA. Without her, I don’t think we’d be as far so I do value that. But at the same time, I feel like I’m right on her heels, and I want what she has.”

Some of you may already be looking forward to the entertaining level of tension that the Ronda/Miesha pairing will create on the show, to which I’d reply — wasn’t Jon Jones vs. Chael Sonnen supposed to be WILD and CRAZY as well? And all I remember from that season was Chael delivering some speech about how a group of guys were asked to walk a plank on the ground, and they all did it with no problem, and then the plank was raised up in the air, and nobody would do it, but it was the same action, it’s just that the environment had changed, or something? Come on, somebody has to know what I’m talking about.

Bottom line: The only way to guarantee drama on TUF 18 is to cast this lady as an assistant coach.

Knee Injury Forces Cat Zingano Out of TUF 18 Before the First Damn Day of Shooting; Miesha Tate to Take Her Spot Against Ronda Rousey

(You really want to do this again, Miesha? Really?? / Photo via Getty Images)

Over the last three years, “TUF Coach” has become the most dangerous occupation on earth, with Tito Ortiz, Brock Lesnar, Dominick Cruz, Vitor Belfort, and Shane Carwin having to go home due to health reasons before they could face off against their reality TV rivals. But at least those guys were able to make it through a few episodes’ worth of shooting before bowing out. Because this right here? This is unprecedented.

Kevin Iole broke the news earlier this evening that UFC women’s bantamweight #1 contender and prospective TUF 18 coach Cat Zingano suffered a knee injury in training earlier this month, and didn’t even make it to day one of shooting. The season’s other coach, Ronda Rousey, learned the bad news today when she walked on set…AND SAW MIESHA TATE JUST CHILLING, LEANING AGAINST A POST. (Ed. note: The detail about the post has been added by CP for dramatic affect.) Anyway, here’s the story, via Yahoo! Sports:

Filming began Tuesday for Season 18 of the UFC’s reality series, “The Ultimate Fighter,” with a gigantic and unexpected switch.

Unbeaten Cat Zingano, who was slated to coach opposite women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, injured a knee and was replaced as coach by long-time Rousey rival Miesha Tate.

Rousey did not know that Zingano was injured – UFC president Dana White said it had been a tightly kept company secret since Zingano injured her right knee during a May 16 workout – or that Tate had been brought in to replace her, until the opening scenes of the show were filmed on Tuesday.

When Tate came out, Rousey was clearly stunned and she stormed out of the UFC training center, searching for White. She later said she was angry because she thought Tate was replacing her.

Rousey, though, was pleased with the change.

Hot Fighter Alert: 14 Photos of Lia Mata’afa, Rumored TUF 18 Castmember

(Click all images for larger versions.)

Yesterday, Dave Melzter released a rumored list of the 16 female fighters selected for the upcoming co-ed season of The Ultimate Fighter. Though the cast list hasn’t been confirmed by the UFC or FOX, it includes such well-known veterans as Tara LaRosaShayna Baszler, Tonya Evinger, Roxanne Modafferi, and up-and-coming talent like Jessamyn Duke, Colleen Schneider, and Raquel Pennington.

One name stuck out for a different reason — Lia Mata’afa, the only fighter on the list with a 0-0 professional record. So why would TUF bring on a fighter with no professional experience? Well, as the UG informs us, she happens to be really attractive.

But make no mistake: Mata’afa is a freak athlete with a ton of potential. In addition to her 4-1 amateur MMA record, Lia was a two-time girls State wrestling champion in her native Hawaii, and according to the Meltzer report she played varsity rugby at Boston University and is currently a member of the American Samoa national rugby team. She is Kendall Grove‘s sister-in-law, and a product of Chris Leben’s Ultimate Fight School in Honolulu.

We’ve gathered a few of our favorite Lia Mata’afa photos for your consideration — which continue after the jump — along with a video of her MMA debut. Visit Lia’s Facebook page for more.

Dead Cat Alert: Ronda Rousey Opened Up as a -825 Betting Favorite Against Zingano

(Photo via ChicagoNow.com)

According to our current homepage poll, 43% of you think Cat Zingano at least stands a chance of victory when she challenges Ronda Rousey for the UFC women’s bantamweight title following their TUF 18 coaching stint. If only the oddsmakers were so confident. Despite Zingano’s comeback thrashing of Miesha Tate earlier this month, Rousey opened up as a stunning -825 betting favorite in the future matchup, with Zingano opening at +475. (Translation: At those odds, you’d have to wager $825 on Rousey to collect a $100 profit if she wins, while a $100 wager on Zingano would pay out a $475 profit if the challenger manages to score an upset.)

We haven’t seen a betting line that lopsided for a UFC title fight since…well, Rousey’s last fight against Liz Carmouche. To put this in perspective, Jon Jones originally opened at just -600 for his UFC 159 fight against the totally-fucked Chael Sonnen, although most betting sites now have Jones in the -800 to -900 range. In other words, the oddsmakers feel that Cat Zingano has about as good a chance of beating Ronda Rousey as Chael Sonnen does of winning a title fight in the weight class above his own. Yeesh. Sorry, Cat.

Bottom line, if you think Zingano has a shot in this one, consider laying down some cash, and quickly. Personally, we’ll stick with our usual investment strategy of flushing $20 bills down the toilet when we find them hidden in our stack of $100s. The price of gold may rise and fall, but that toilet remains as stable as something you sit on and crap into. I don’t know where I was going with this.

[VIDEO] Get Your First Look at Some of the Female Participants Trying Out for ‘The Ultimate Fighter 18′

If you recall, the tryouts for The Ultimate Fighter 18: Rousey vs. Zingano transpired earlier this week, featuring such talent as Tara Larosa, Shayna Bazler and the incorrigible Kim Couture. Today, however, we actually get to take a first look at some of the lesser known ladies trying out for the groundbreaking season, as well as some of the veterans, courtesy of our friends over at MMAFighting. The most surprising appearance? Tonya Evinger, who I was positive had taken up a career in professional bull riding some years ago. Learnin’ something everyday.

With contestants spanning across all 50 states and even our neighbors to the North, the Grand Ballroom of the Palace Station Hotel was positively packed with young, excitable talent looking to prove themselves on the world’s biggest stage. Check out the video above, and let us know who you think we will be seeing come September 4th in the comments section.
