With UFC 2009 Undisputed an unqualified success both here and abroad, we won’t be seeing five year gaps between UFC video games anymore. Dana White announced at last night’s 2009 Video Game Awards on Spike that next year would see the release of UFC 2010 Undisputed — which gives THQ one year to add heel-hooks and gogoplatas to the game and figure out how to animate Clay Guida’s hair. Of course, there should be a new crop of fighters in the 2010 edition as well. For those of you who have been furiously playing UFC 2009 Undisputed since its release, what other improvements would you like to see?

If you’re curious, the video after the jump shows you how to construct Fedor Emelianenko in the game’s "Create a Fighter" mode — though maybe he’ll be an official playable character one of these years

Now that we know who’s going to be in the upcoming UFC game, it’s time to look at how those fighters will throw down within the "virtual Octagon." In the above video, 2009 Undisputed producer Neven Dravinski takes us through weak and strong strikes, and the various ranges they can be delivered. The GSP Superman-punch KO of BJ Penn at 0:09-0:12 makes us smile every time we see it.

Below: One day left until Jason Guida gets a giant reality check — but for the time being, he gets to be talk about how he’s "all over [Lashley's] mind" and how he actually feels bad for him, because the former WWE star has to jump in the deep end right away without being built up first. (*Cough*) Skip to the 2:18 mark and smell the magic.

After the jump: King Mo‘s pimp-ass post-Sengoku press conference.

Below: RawVegas catches up with Junie Browning at Xtreme Couture and discusses his upcoming matchup with Cole Miller and his new training partner, War Machine. On War: "I think he’s a cool dude. That’s the kind of guy I would hang out with outside of here. [Ed. note: God help us all.] You get a lot of computer warriors and people like that, but they don’t really know a person…I think people get the wrong interpretation of him."

Is ‘UFC 2009 Undisputed’ in Jeopardy?

BJ Penn Georges St. Pierre MMA UFC video game Undisputed 2009
(Shoulda used your Vaseline cheat-code, Georges. Props: urdirt.com

Even if you don’t read the news regularly, you may be aware that our country is going through a bit of a recession. Maybe your former boss might have mentioned it when you were fired. Basically, it’s a bad time to own a company in America, or work at one. And though the UFC’s pay-per-view buys have looked seemingly recession-proof, they may be feeling the pinch in an unexpected way. WatchKalibRun reports that THQ, the publisher of UFC 2009 Undisputed, is in serious financial straits, which could affect the fate of the hotly-anticipated video game:

THQ has lost $334 million dollars this year and their stock prices has fallen from $20 a share to $2 a share. Now according to Michael Hickey of Janco Partners, the company has a fifty percent chance of going bankrupt. Currently THQ is trying to save over $220 million next year and are preparing to slash over 600 employees. However, the prognosis remains dark for THQ…

The worst-case scenario is that [UFC 2009 Undisputed] will be shelved, incomplete and not sold to another publisher or developer. The best case scenario is that THQ survives and publishes the game. If the game is near completion and THQ is going under, then THQ may publish the game before closing shop…THQ could also sell the game to developer who is not in trouble, or if things are really bad for THQ they could sell the studio, Yuke’s Media Creations, that is creating the game. Since THQ’s recent big budget games have been unsuccesful it seems unlikely that will sell off a potential blockbuster, but considering these financial times, no bets are off.
