Gross Photo of the Day: Here’s the Gnarly Gash That Uriah Hall Gave Ron Stallings

Speaking of utter mismatches at UFC Fight Night 59, middleweight Uriah Hall needed less than a round to tear open the face of obscure late-replacement Ron Stallings to the point where the fight was stopped by a doctor. Here’s a nice, disgusting close-up of the damage, via SuckerPunch Entertainment.

Video highlights of the Hall vs. Stallings fight and Hall’s well-intentioned but kind of odd post-fight speech (“there’s no need for us to be fighting each other”) are after the jump…

UFC 182 Photo: Jon Jones Reminds Daniel Cormier of His Place in Life

(Click for larger version.)

2015′s first “Photo of the Year” nomination goes to MMAFighting‘s Esther Lin, who captured the demoralizing moment at UFC 182 when Jon Jones palmed Daniel Cormier‘s head at the end of round 4, after taking the former Olympic wrestler down repeatedly. Cormier can barely summon the will to get angry; his spirit had already been broken.

In terms of Jones trolling his opponents following dominant rounds, this ranks right up there with the time that Jones went through Rampage’s legs just to be a jackass. Classic heel stuff. You can see the rest of Esther Lin’s UFC 182 photos right here.

Gnarly Photos of the Day: Mark Hunt’s Broken Toe, Donald Cerrone’s Gashed-Up Elbow

UFC 160 may have been the bloodiest, ugliest UFC event since “Fight for the Troops” in 2008. MMAJunkie has a gallery of gory photo-highlights that you should check out if you have the stomach for that sort of thing, but we wanted to pass along a couple gruesome shots in particular.

Above, you’ll see the destroyed toe of Mark Hunt, who says he broke the piggy during the first round of his co-main event fight against Junior Dos Santos. As Hunt wrote on his Facebook fan page: “Thanks for the support apologies about the result junior was to slick for me. Got a broken toe first round and had no movement, but like i said before if i am going out i am out on my back thanks again 1luv.”

And “go out on his back” he certainly did.

After the jump: Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone shows off the literal aftermath of figuratively breaking his elbow off in KJ Noons‘s ass.

Photo of the Day: Junior Dos Santos and Tim Boetsch Grin Through the Agony

(Props: CagedInsider on Facebook)

Junior Dos Santos‘s five-round thrashing at the hands of Cain Velasquez last night resulted in photographs both horrific and comically horrific. But as the above photo proves, Junior walked away from his beating with his faculties somewhat intact, and was healthy enough to fist-pose afterwards with middleweight Tim Boetsch, who gave Cigano a run for his money in the “most gruesomely misshapen fighter of the night” category. Throw a slashed-up Joe Lauzon in there, and you’d have the most depressing/inspiring MMA photo of the year. It hurts to look at these guys so soon after suffering through unimaginable physical agony, but it’s hard not to give it up for you-know-what.

Photo of the Day: ‘UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem’ Official Poster

(They should have included a can of soda for size comparison.)

With Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem, the UFC will arguably be presenting the most dynamic wrestler vs. striker battle that the heavyweight division has ever seen — but if you really want to hook the casual fans, it’s a lot easier to say “gawd damn these sons-a-bitches are huuuuuge!”

Which they are, of course. This might be the first time that Lesnar will look out-sized in the cage. And after Brock’s year-long illness layoff, Alistair isn’t exactly the ideal return opponent. But hey, this is MMA, anything can happen, etc.

Photo of the Year Candidate: Nick Diaz and BJ Penn After UFC 137

(Props: MMA Scraps)

A superstar on the rise, fist-posing next to a possibly-retired legend who barely has the strength to shaka — you can put this photo in the MMA dictionary next to “changing of the guard.”

UFC 137 provided another example of the unique emotional arc that this sport sometimes gives us. Headliners Nick Diaz and BJ Penn got into a near-tussle at the weigh-ins, spent three rounds trying to knock each other out, and after the fight they were chillin’ like two old bros. Never mind the fact that Penn’s left eye was leaking blood from all the blows he ate from Diaz, who happened to break the record for significant strikes landed in a UFC fight, by the way.

After the jump: More UFC 137 post-fight press conference highlights, in which Diaz talks about why he didn’t want to fight Penn, and explains that he didn’t go to school for buying a house. (That’ll make a little more sense when you watch it.)

Don’t forget to come back to CagePotato.com for round-by-round results from the Versus main card broadcast of UFC Live: Cruz vs. Johnson, starting at 9 p.m. ET.
