UFC on FOX 12 Weigh-In Results: Matt Brown Misses Weight, Avoids Punishment Because of ‘Miscommunication’

(Props: UFC on YouTube)

UFC on FOX 12 weigh-ins went down earlier today in San Jose, and no, they did not proceed without incident. Most notably, Matt Brown came in way heavy on his first attempt, tipping the scales at 172.5 pounds for his welterweight headliner against Robbie Lawler. Usually, a fighter in his position would grit his teeth and go back to the sauna for an hour. But due to a weird miscommunication, that didn’t happen. FOX Sports’s Marc Raimondi has the report:

[After missing weight], Brown was advised by a commission doctor that he should not continue to cut weight. By rule, a fighter has another hour to try to make weight. Brown thought the doctor was telling him he would not be allowed to weigh in again, according to CSAC executive officer Andy Foster.

“There’s a difference between advisement from a doctor and a directive by a doctor,” Foster told FOX Sports.

When a fighter misses weight in California, he or she must forfeit 20 percent of his or her purse, 10 percent to the commission and 10 percent to the opponent. After a discussion between the UFC and commission officials, the CSAC decided not to fine Brown.

“We were just looking after his health and safety, but I was going to let him on [the scale again],” Foster said. “I was going to give him his time. Chalk it up to miscommunication.”

Being that most of us are still resisting the non-urge to purchase UFC Fight Pass, today’s weigh-ins will likely be the closest we come to seeing any of tomorrow afternoon’s fights (legally, at least). So join us after the jump for the quickest weigh-in results on the web, then gather your pitchforks and torches and meet us at the town square to protest the fact that Ilir Latifi still doesn’t have a Wikipedia page. THE YEAR OF LATIFI IS UPON US!!

Catch the ‘Fight Night 36: Machida vs. Mousasi’ Weigh-Ins LIVE Right Here Starting at 1 p.m. EST [UPDATED w/RESULTS]

(Uh-oh. Grizzled, unkempt Machida is easily the most dangerous of all Machidas. Photo via Getty.)

Lyoto Machida, Gegard Mousasi, and all 24 fighters competing on tomorrow’s ‘Fight Night 36′ card are set to hit the scales from the Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil starting at 1 p.m. EST. Although Fight Night 36 is eerily similar in quality to next weekend’s UFC 170 pay-per-view, it features neither Ronda Rousey nor the year’s biggest squash match and therefore will be free. No, I do not understand it either.

Join us after the jump for a live feed of the weigh-ins, which are sure to feature no shortage of graceful bows and vacant, serial killer-esque stares into the distance. Should be a good one.

(It’s okay, Roy — we know exactly how you feel. / Photo via Getty)

Fun fact: Condit is a solid -250 favorite in the main event, despite the fact that he hasn’t won a fight since February 2012, and lost his first match against Kampmann in a narrow split-decision back in 2009. Discuss.

Catch the ‘UFC 163: Aldo vs. Korean Zombie’ Weigh-Ins Right Here Starting at 3 p.m. EST! [UPDATED w/RESULTS]

You gotta love how the UFC continues to promote Chan Sung Jung’s awesome nickname above his actual name for every event he headlines, to the point that the casual fan probably couldn’t tell you who Jung was without first being informed that he was in fact “The Korean Zombie.” Who knows, maybe the UFC is hoping to reel in some last second buys from drunk shut-ins who thought they were ordering a Syfy movie On Demand — it wouldn’t be the first time that the two entities combined forces. If only Wanderlei Silva was a featherweight, we would all be talking about how Axe Murderer vs. Korean Zombie made DinoCroc vs. Supergator look like Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus* around the water cooler on Monday.

I apparently cannot stop rambling today, so let’s wrap things up here. Starting at 3 p.m. EST, the weigh-ins for UFC 163 will be going down from the HSBC arena. We will be hosting a viewing party of said weigh-ins, complete with popcorn (BLAST-O-BUTTER, obvs.), footy pajamas and your mom. Will Jose Aldo triumphantly sprint into the crowd after making weight? Will Phil Davis or Lyoto Machida do anything to convince us that their fight won’t suck? Tune in and find out!

Vitor Belfort and Luke Rockhold Got a Little Shovey at Today’s UFC on FX 8 Weigh-Ins [VIDEO + RESULTS]

(Props: YouTube.com/UFC)

During Thursday’s UFC on FX 8 pre-fight press conference, Vitor Belfort did that thing he loves to do where he held his right fist out to Luke Rockhold‘s chin during their photo-op staredown. Luke was not amused. So, after the two headliners weighed in today at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil, Rockhold just walked straight through Belfort’s fist-pose, making body contact with the Brazilian fighter. Belfort shoved Rockhold, and Bootleg Dana had to separate them.

Video of that incident is above, and the full “Belfort vs. Rockhold” weigh-in results are after the jump. Be sure to come back to CagePotato.com tomorrow night at 9 p.m. ET for our liveblog of the main card!
