10 Legendary MMA Fighters You've Probably Never Heard Of

Talk About Putting All of Your Eggs in One Basket: Filho, Rizzo and Bustamante Slated to Fight Again in August

When Impact FC announced its July fight cards, most of us looked at the fact that Pedro Rizzo and his chronically unreliable fellow Brazilian, Paulo Filho were fighting two weekends in a row and said "Good luck with that."

Well, now it seems that a yet-to-be-named promotion is rolling the dice one more time by adding Rizzo, Filho and fellow Impact FC signee Murilo Bustamante to a planned August 14 card, according to TATAME.

For those who weren’t paying attention, 43-year-old Bustamante, who will take on TUF 7 outcast Jesse Taylor at the new Australian promotion’s July 18 event, hasn’t fought since "retiring" in 2007, but is planning on fighting twice in less than four weeks.

Filho, who won a heavyweight bout on June 4, has pulled out of two fights in the past year. He is scheduled to take on Keith Johnson on July 10 and UFC and PRIDE veteran Denis Kang on July 18, which, including the August bout, would bring his tally to four fights in two months. Since 2000 when he began competing in MMA, 2006 was the only year that the 32-year-old fought as much four times, so I’m not holding my breath on this one.

36-year-old Rizzo has only fought three times since 2008, yet it’s expected he will remain healthy enough to compete three times in as many months. Sure, he is heading into his July 18 fight with Ken Shamrock riding a two-fight win streak, having defeated Gary Goodridge and Jeff Monson in his past two outings, but the last time Rizzo had three fights in even a one-year span was in 2003.

Even in the highly unlikely scenario that all of these fighters do compete in all of their scheduled bouts, what will the pace of their fights on last card be like?

*According to the report, Rizzo’s opponent for the August 14 show was slated to be Tim Sylvia, but the "Maine-iac pulled out of the event after breaking his foot in his Moosin fight with Mariusz Pudzianowski last month.

This whole thing sounds like some half-baked caper cooked up by a shadowy underworld criminal organization. I think either of two things happens: everybody is secretly being lured to a nondescript warehouse/ boatyard where they will all be kidnapped by ninjas and then reprogrammed and mutated in an evil laboratory into freakish killing machines for nefarious purposes OR they are being lured to a warehouse/ boatyard where they will all be kidnapped by ninjas and then fed to mutant sharks with lasers on their heads for not paying the bills for their steroids.

If any of either scenario makes it to a live pay-per-view I will do my best to find a place to buy it. Another selling point would be if they bump the kangaroo's fight up to the main card. Kid's got potential.

Karo told me that they are showing the July 10 fights on the July 18 PPV. Seems odd, no?

I've been doubting the legitimacy of this whole thing since it first came to our notice, getting all those guys in one place would be an acheivement in itself, let alone have em get through customs & immigration and actually into the cage, it was supposed to be PPV but is that even happening?
We may see a couple of fights but I wont be surprised if it drops to one card and they have to fill that out with local fighters.

Bob Sapp and Ken Shamrock on the same card? talk about a zimmer frame match

took a stroll on down to the impact fc website and this is what i saw.....

on the front page they conveinantly explain "What is MMA?"
....."It is often referred to as, 'Cage Fighting', 'Prize Fighting', 'Pit Fighting', 'Ultimate Fighting', 'Extreme Fighting', 'No Holds Barred Fighting', 'Anything Goes Fighting' or 'No Rules Fighting'." uh oh....

and

"It is the #1 indoor sport in the world" basketball and hockey might have something to say about that.....

as far as i can tell, they in no way even attempt to tell anyone how they can go about actually watching these fights from their home....ominous?

they list ken shamrock and paulo filho as a heavyweights and claim the pedro rizzo was once ufc champion

as far as i can tell kim couture authored most of what is written on their site.

i am extremely doubtful that these cards will come to fruition

You know whats even funnier that crazy jokes? Bitching.
LAS- June 15, 2010 at 11:48 am
Did you know Paulo Filho has a tattoo on his face? What a crazy guy! Someone should make a lot of jokes about how what a crazy guy he is. You know, because he's crazy, and that shit never gets old.

Filho's rider?

437 Boxes of coco puffs

8 Pitbulls

2 Bottles of Lyoto's father's urine

1 Partridge in a pear tree*

5 Copies of "Vest Fancier Quarterly"

2 Drunken talentless tattoo artists with rusty needles

1 Porn star named "Rusty Needles"

*Despite Filho having no knowledge of pears, trees, or partridges

I think they are planning on putting all the fighters that do show up and are able to fight in the cage and let them have a brawl. Last one standing wins. The prize is headlining the next event.

Also...I train bjj with a Carlson Gracie disciple...so I was an old school BTT fan. Before the Nogs and Bustamante got old. Bustamante can still hang with half these dudes though...so I'm excited. So when is Mario Sperry fighting again?
El Guapo- June 15, 2010 at 10:46 am
People have been saying it's a card full of rejects, retarts and the like. My question to you is h..

"Who said that?"

Uhhh, you know. People.

"What people?"

Well, umm... RUN!

justscrappin- June 15, 2010 at 10:44 am
Everyone knows that Ricco is weighing in around like 225lbs these days right? He also said he plans on dropping to 205lbs...and his trainers said he isn't kidding and has already gotten down to 217lbs.
Viva Hate- June 15, 2010 at 9:58 am
While I would like to see these fights, I have a hard time believing that all of them go down, I think Impact will be lucky if 50% go down as planned.
PortlandMMA- June 15, 2010 at 9:53 am
I think that Barnett fight should actually be pretty good, and I Like Monson, but I doubt Filho shows up. On their second card it'll be good to see Bustamante and Rizzo fight again, but i cant say i give a shit about Rodgriguez, Sapp or Shamrock.
Mike Russell- June 15, 2010 at 9:46 am
Nah, ReX. I'm pumped to watch all of the PRIDE and UFC fighters. I guess it's the fanboy in me.
ReX13- June 15, 2010 at 9:35 am
So i'm the ONLY sick puppy to be excited about this many freak show fights in one night?

Viva Hate- June 15, 2010 at 9:33 am
My Predictions for these cards:

Josh Barnett vs. Geronimo Dos Santos- Barnett pulls out when Bob Sapp challenges him to a steel cage death match in Japan.

Karo Parisyan vs. Luis "Besouro" Dutra Jr- Karo pulls out to have “tea/lunch” with Strikeforce, claiming they cannot wait to sign him to a huge deal. Never actually happens.

Carlos Newton vs. Brian Ebersole-Fight never goes down as Shonie Carter attacks Newtown and chokes him out with his gold banana hammock to avenge his loss.

Jeff Monson vs. Bira Lima- Monson is unable to make the flight as he is most likely ona no fly list, he will get tased at the airport by homeland security attempting to pass security. He will then strip naked at a press conference to reveal they actualluy did tase him until his pubes fell out.

Paulo Filho vs. Keith Johnson- Impact will not let this happen due to the abilities of Filho.

Ken Shamrock vs. Pedro Rizzo- Fight will go off, Shamrock will then pay only earnings right back to the UFC for their legal fees.

Paul Daley vs. Daniel Acacio- Daley at -10 by sucker punch

Bob Sapp vs. Soa Palelei- Fight never happens, recovering from his cage match with Barnett

Murilo Bustamante vs. Jesse Taylor-Taylor by strikes with slot machine

Jeff Monson vs. Ricco Rodriguez- Fight cancelled due to Monson’s airport incindent.

Joaquim "Mamute" Ferreira vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou-Meh

Paulo Filho vs. Denis Kang- Impact once again will not let this happen due to the abilities of Filho.
PortlandMMA- June 15, 2010 at 9:28 am
I was going to make a joke about really making the card a reliable one by adding Kary Parisyan to it...and then I noticed he is literally on the card.
