(Maybe some fashion help from TapouT isn’t such a bad idea.)
How timely, considering the premiere of TapouT’s second season on Versus. Now they’re officially sponsoring Kimbo Slice. Peep the press release:
Grand Terrace, CA (July 28, 2008) – TapouT, the premier mixed martial arts apparel, gear and lifestyle brand, announced today that the company will sponsor MMA superstar Kimbo Slice and create a joint apparel line under the TapouT brand. TapouT will be Kimbo’s exclusive apparel sponsor.
“Kimbo is the real deal,” said Mask, TapouT Founder. “He is the ultimate underdog who kept his nose to the grindstone and rose up to become one of the most well-known MMA fighters out there. Kimbo is tough, but full of heart, and we’re excited to take him from the cage to the clothing.”
“I want to thank the whole TapouT FAM for taking an interest in me and team Kimbo,” said Kimbo Slice. Also thank you guys for allowing us to be a part of your FAM… and the tightest gear out there. Hey man, my team is psyched, team Kimbo is psyched.”
Further details on the Kimbo/TapouT apparel line will be announced in the coming months.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who stumbled over the phrase “from the cage to the clothing.” With all his mainstream appeal, could the Kimbo Slice TapouT tee replace the Affliction shirt as the go to gear for the casual MMA douche? Only time will tell, but I’m going to go ahead and say abso-goddamn-lutely.

commentsThe one thing I will say though is Kimbo knows he is not the best in an interview he was asked if he thinks he can be a heavy weight champion anytime soo and his reply was there was no way and that working with Bass Rutten that he would need another year of fights before he can even think he was a contender. So in that case you can respect that honesty and humble response, or not.
Tapout is much the same. Like them or not - they support and promote a sport I love to watch. I do not train but wear Tapout. Much like those that wear hockey jerseys or football jerseys but do not or have never played. Its about the sport and the fighters.
You know what i'm sick of. I'm sick of stupid mother fuckers sticking up for Kimbo. We fucking get it already, he has every right to earn a living and if some dipshit, good for nothing, fat ass guido like Gary Shaw and Elite XC want to pay him to do what he does, they are more than free to do so. And if every Tapout wearing, wannabe tough guy wants to pay to see it, go ahead, it's a free fucking country. I don't have to like it and I don't. I also have every right to bitch about what they and the idiots that support them are doing to a sport I love.
However, let's get one thing straight here; Kimbo is no MMA fighter, ne never was and never will be. This is a professional sport, you don't get credit for trying. I don't have to give that man shit until he proves himself. Which, by the way, he's not going to get it beating up 60 year old men like Tank Abbott (Who by the way should retire). Fuck he couldn't even TKO James Thompson. If I tried to fuck your mom but didn't, should I still get credit for putting my cock in her ass? No, I shouldn't, because you get credit for doing not for trying.
He's not trying to make a mockery of the sport? Are you on drugs? No, seriously are you? Because, i'd like some of whatever you're on; i've never actually met anyone that dillusional. He doesn't care about the sport. He's here to make his money and bail (And before anyone starts bitching about this, please go re-read the 1st paragraph again.), he's there because of the hype NOT BECAUSE HE HAS ANY SKILL. Therefore his mere involvement makes a mockery of the sport.
I could give two shits about how good of a fighter he could have been if he'd started training 10 years ago. The fact is he didn't. If i'd started 10 years ago I could have the fucking skills to compete on a professional level. But I didn't either, so here I am laying some knowledge on your ignorant ass.
And as far as Kimbo running with anything goes, did you not watch him fight James Thompson. From what I recall he was seriously gassed by the second round. I doubt he could run far with anything. Now that sounds like someone who's really taking this sport seriously.
Yes Kimbo gets alot of undeserved hype....Yes you guys have a few valid points.
What bothers me is that non of you guys give Kimbo credit for honestly trying to pick up the sport....hes training hard and trying his best to become a real MMA fighter.
If he was not training and taking the sport seriously then i could understand but thats not the case....he is not trying to make a mockery of the sport. its not his fault the hype machine backs it. Anyone would do exactly what kimbo is doing......Kimbo is serios about the sport though and he deserves credit for trying to pick up the sport at such an"old" age.
Kimbo is not the best fighter......but if kimbo started this stuff 10 years ago he may have the skills by now to compete with the best of the best.
Im looking forward to seeing how far slice can run with this thing
I have 7 or 8 Tapout shirts and now i have to put them on Ebay.
The whole kimbo thing would be akin to me posting a few videos of myself hitting a few homeruns, posting the videos online and then being drafted to a team like the Red Sox with multi-million dollar contract. This would be stupid situation because I would not have proven myself as decent baseball player let alone a professional baseball player. Imagine how pissed off you would be if you were somebody who had been playing baseball your entire life and made the team by actually trying out and doing hard work.
I dont think people should give kimbo a hard time... given the opportunity anyone would ride a wave like that all the way until it crashes on the beach... make some money, then disappear into relative obscurity. Or maybe market yourself in Japan for a couple of years fighting puffs like Bob Sapp.

WOW TapouT is like the gayest show on network television. If it wasn't it is now.
I've said it before and i'll say it again. I have no problem with Tapout. They're in the business of making money not making friends. However, I wouldn't be caught dead wearing any of their shit. Also, if for some reason anyone caught me watching their show, please beat me mercilessly. People talk a lot about what and who gives MMA a bad reputation. At the top of any real fans list should be that show. If not, please go back to watching professional wrestling on TNT where face paint, bad hair, stupid outfits and inane yelling are perfectly acceptable forms of expression.
I say any fighter who is already sponsored by Tapout should give up the money and throw away all of their tapout gear. Could you just imagine the kind of impact it would have in Chuck Liddell came out at his next fight in a different pair of shorts and totally renounced Tapout and refused to a part of any company that supported Kimbo? But the fighters have to support themselves. What would be great is if Dana White offered any fighter willing to do it a bonus. They could do a ceremony in vegas where all the fighters threw their tapout gear into a big fire while they were wearing their new Sprawl gear. Spawl could even have a t-shirt made that says "Real Fighters Wear Spawl" or even better a Throwdown t-shirt that said "Bitches Tapout, Real Fighters Throwdown," I know I suck at coming up with slogans, but then again that's why I don't sell fucking t-shirts.
That being said, I think these clowns realize that the white trash market is HUGE!
