Meh….. A sports is a sport the only thing I hope does not happen is that the original Kimbo Slice sponsor and shirt manufacturer was Triumph United and I hope he is not selling him out. But then again money is money so I guess I can’t fault him for it.

The one thing I will say though is Kimbo knows he is not the best in an interview he was asked if he thinks he can be a heavy weight champion anytime soo and his reply was there was no way and that working with Bass Rutten that he would need another year of fights before he can even think he was a contender. So in that case you can respect that honesty and humble response, or not.

Kimbo was fun to watch on youtube and still comes across as a fairly well spoken and respectable guy. I am glad allowing the sport to gain in popularity, which translates into more money for fighters and fight promoters.

Tapout is much the same. Like them or not – they support and promote a sport I love to watch. I do not train but wear Tapout. Much like those that wear hockey jerseys or football jerseys but do not or have never played. Its about the sport and the fighters.

What bothers me is that non of you guys give Kimbo credit for honestly trying to pick up the sport….hes training hard and trying his best to become a real MMA fighter.

Kyle, it’s nice to know that you think so little of us. And frankly, you are right, we are all a bunch of haters here. We hate the fact that a boxing promoter like Gary Shaw (A man who has no respect for the concept of MMA and equates the art of jiu jitsu with homosexual behavior) pushes a circus side show internet freak like Kimbo on to the general public as the greatest thing to ever happen to MMA. Yes, those of us who have actually been a fan of MMA for more than six months hate the fact that Elite XC, Gary Shaw, Kimbo and Tapout are slowly turning a sport we love into nothing more than glorified professional wrestling a la WWE. However, as much I may hate what they represent in our sport I cannot fault them for trying to make money. If you had actually read my post, you would have noticed that I said “They’re in the business of making money not making friends.” Yes Kyle we are haters, and what we hate most are newbie poseurs like yourself that thinks all of this is okay and good for our sport.

Kyle–This site isn’t full of haters, it is full of people who love MMA as a sport. I love MMA. The sporting and combat side. The business side is what bothers me. This is because things that are good for business are not often good for the sport. Kimbo+Hype+Tapout= not good for MMA as a sport. Kimbo is like the Brian Bosworth of MMA. He hasn’t proven himself at all and is one of the most recognized (this is not a good or a bad thing) faces that is associated with MMA. I would have said that he is one of the most recognized face IN MMA, but he hasn’t even proven himself to be a mixed martial artist in anyway.

The whole kimbo thing would be akin to me posting a few videos of myself hitting a few homeruns, posting the videos online and then being drafted to a team like the Red Sox with multi-million dollar contract. This would be stupid situation because I would not have proven myself as decent baseball player let alone a professional baseball player. Imagine how pissed off you would be if you were somebody who had been playing baseball your entire life and made the team by actually trying out and doing hard work.

I am now glad that I don’t own any Tapout gear. The fact they would sponsor Kimbo is just plain stupid. On their show they always talk about finding guys who are the “future of MMA” and they sponsor Kimbo is a joke. Anybody in the sport knows this and they are just alienating their brand from real MMA fans.

There’s a ton of badass gear made by real clothing companies that doesn’t make you look like a douche. If you’re worried about the price there’s always Obey. If not there’s a ton of shirts of michael jordan posterizing (or being posterized) someone that’s done well graphically (and I guess similarly to tapout type shit stylewise) which is pretty dope. If i was bout to be a fuck I’d definitely not be wearing anything relating to that shit. I’d wear a kermit the frog shirt or some shit.

What can one say about Tapout giving Kimbo a sponsorship? Look at it this way, it’s just another douche bag that doesn’t know shit about MMA walking around in a trendy ass t-shirt so other people will think he’s cool. All the while, everyone he passes is really laughing and pointing at his stupid ass.

I say any fighter who is already sponsored by Tapout should give up the money and throw away all of their tapout gear. Could you just imagine the kind of impact it would have in Chuck Liddell came out at his next fight in a different pair of shorts and totally renounced Tapout and refused to a part of any company that supported Kimbo? But the fighters have to support themselves. What would be great is if Dana White offered any fighter willing to do it a bonus. They could do a ceremony in vegas where all the fighters threw their tapout gear into a big fire while they were wearing their new Sprawl gear. Spawl could even have a t-shirt made that says “Real Fighters Wear Spawl” or even better a Throwdown t-shirt that said “Bitches Tapout, Real Fighters Throwdown,” I know I suck at coming up with slogans, but then again that’s why I don’t sell fucking t-shirts.

I’m very disappointed in TapouT. I thought these were the guys who were looking out for what MMA fans cared about. I’m on the fence about Tapout clothing, I like some of their stuff, but I think unless you train a lot you probably shouldn’t wear it. (There’s nothing worse than some midget duche at a bar, with no lats and his arms out to his sides like popeye stumbling around in his Tapout shirt like it’s a warning that he’s about to bust out a RNC on the next person that walks by .) I dunno, this Kimbo thing kind of tarnishes their credibiltiy a bit.
