Technique of the Week: Jonathan Ivey’s Beach-Ball Barrel Roll Against Ken Shamrock

(Props: jgreff2)

As you may recall, UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock scored a rare victory over Jonathan Ivey last month at a USA MMA event in Lousiana. If you’d like to see the full 15-minute battle, the video is currently in our "Fight of the Week" section over on the right. (Scroll down a bit. Yeah, there it is.) The above highlights package from Inside MMA saves you a lot of time by rounding up the important moments, like when Ivey knocks Shammy down, and later when he slaps his own titties and shouts at Ken to bring it on, like an enraged, diabetic Nick Diaz.

But the best moment comes right before the end of the fight when Ivey does a pair of somersaults for no apparent reason; we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was rolling for a kneebar, then dodged out of the way when he couldn’t catch it. Kenny Rice describes it both as a "Rerun impression" and "the dreidel defense." Oy vey, Ivey!

Bonus, after the jump: Jonathan Ivey gets beat up by "very internet savvy" UFC heavyweight Sean McCorkle, at an LFC event in May.

Wow. Those are, without a doubt, the greatest 4 seconds of MMA footage known to man. The look on Shamrock's face is pretty priceless too.

That move is actually called the Butterbean Barrel Bustle. See how it rolls of the tongue; like he rolls off the mat; just flawless~

looked alot like Lesnar's move against Cain.
Someone should Gif Ivey v. Brock in a good ol' fashioned dance off.

You know whats sad? Going into that fight against Hunt Ivey was McCorkel's sternest test. Ouch.

Some people make careers out of opening cans but it also goes to show you how some people only fight extremely tough guys to mask the fact that they can't even beat the average guys, Hunt made a career out of losing to good fighters.

I like what a big kick Babalu got out that. Laughing at morbidly obese people try to do stuff just never get old.

I watched the whole thing the other day (or should I say I fast-forwarded through it), and I can honestly say, without hyperbole, that this was the worst "fight" I have ever seen. What they show in the highlight above was literally everything that actually happened in the entire 15 minutes.

Why was it so dark in the cage? Cause the fight was such a black-hole of boring that even light itself could not escape. This shit makes a Jon Fitch fight look like riding a roller coaster with a stripper on your lap.

Curly Howard would be proud.

ok, this makes more sense now. When I came here a few minutes ago, it was that headline with just the McCorkle videos. I was like WTF? What does Shamrock/Ivey have to do with this?

Ok, so where is the technique breakdown and pointers, in case i should need to employ the beach ball barrel roll?Jesus, this site has gone to shit since that one guy did that stuff that time.

In his defense, it was pretty dark in that cage so maybe he just couldn't see...
