When Nate Diaz said in an interview last week that sponsors help put clothing on fighters’ backs and food on their tables, he apparently wasn’t referring to his brother, Nick, who says he’s broke and that he doesn’t make enough money to buy anything but food.
"People need to understand that I don’t make a lot of money. For real. I spent all my money on food. I don’t have any money; I spent it all on food. I didn’t buy anything," he explained. "I worry about taxes and I watch my bank account just, *whoosh* get sucked away. So I’m like, man, I just want to fight and get paid, you know?"
By "food," I wonder if he’s referring to weed since that would explain how all of his money went up in smoke.
Nick made $100,000 for his Strikeforce win over Mariusz Zaromskis in February alone, not including sponsorship money. Maybe he and Nate need to hire an accountant like Chuck Liddell look over their books.
Addressing the recent hubub over his refusal to take part in a conference call last week with his upcoming opponent, KJ Noons, Diaz says if the money is right he’ll even pretend that he likes doing interviews.
"I’ll act nice, whatever, you know? Like I said, if I’m paid to do that, just let me know that’s what I need to do to play the game. What’s the game? Tell me what I’m supposed to do," Diaz said. "What’s my job description? I thought I’m a fighter, so I just kept it real like I always did."
Is "keeping it real" Stocktonian for "being an asshole?"

commentsDo we really need to have an Internet fight? I'll point out again that my criticisms and light ribbing of you are nowhere near as bad as most. Just sayin.
I think he might be. Probably on account of confusing me with a 12 year old girl. Zing!
@MRuss
I thought I said I didn't have to? I assume they're Dundas' when they aren't filled with backlash. Even AFTER I've posted on them. ;)
I'm actually quite nice to Dundas, you realize.
@SeoulBrother
Very true. Stockton ain't exactly Darfur. Or worse, Detroit.
There are lots of other people around the world that have it a lot worse off than Li'l Nicky.
But the fact is they get poked fun at because they do an awful lot of shit worth poking fun at. I think they have pretty thick skin, they can handle it
The Diax boys will never be poster boys for MMA because their not that sort of people, their just a couple of Stockton boys who discovered they can make a dollar from fighting so they go for it.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that the GSP's of this world will always make the most of opportunity due to their intelligence, savvy and appreciation of the bigger picture. The Diaz's of this world will always just be homies who make a buck out of fighting and thats as far as it goes for them, each to their own, but I dont see why should be held up for ridicule just because they are what they are.
Just my opinion
Seriously?
What the fuck has happened around here?
This guy is fucking awesome and right.
ND your the man, fuck those haters!

Christ, GSP certainly has acted like a douchebag, but he's cleaned up so much that Under Armour and Gatorade love his ass. The NY Times writes about him in the context of fashion shows. He's raking in a lot of dough outside of the octagon because he's an example.
What the fuck does Li'l Nicky expect - money and Subway foot longs waiting for him at a presser? It's hard enough to see a fighter like Mark Kerr fall, and I'd love to see a talented fighter like Nick Diaz rake in a lot of dough and -gasp- smile, but I'm not waiting for a loser like him to cowboy the fuck up.
