Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

Thanks to the Munchies Nick Diaz is Broke; Says He’ll Do Press if He’s Paid to Do It

(Video courtesy YouTube/TheShoot)

When Nate Diaz said in an interview last week that sponsors help put clothing on fighters’ backs and food on their tables, he apparently wasn’t referring to his brother, Nick, who says he’s broke and that he doesn’t make enough money to buy anything but food.

"People need to understand that I don’t make a lot of money. For real. I spent all my money on food. I don’t have any money; I spent it all on food. I didn’t buy anything," he explained. "I worry about taxes and I watch my bank account just, *whoosh* get sucked away. So I’m like, man, I just want to fight and get paid, you know?"

By "food," I wonder if he’s referring to weed since that would explain how all of his money went up in smoke.

Nick made $100,000 for his Strikeforce win over Mariusz Zaromskis in February alone, not including sponsorship money. Maybe he and Nate need to hire an accountant like Chuck Liddell look over their books.

Addressing the recent hubub over his refusal to take part in a conference call last week with his upcoming opponent, KJ Noons, Diaz says if the money is right he’ll even pretend that he likes doing interviews.

"I’ll act nice, whatever, you know?  Like I said, if I’m paid to do that, just let me know that’s what I need to do to play the game. What’s the game? Tell me what I’m supposed to do," Diaz said. "What’s my job description? I thought I’m a fighter, so I just kept it real like I always did."

Is "keeping it real" Stocktonian for "being an asshole?"

His training expenses couldn't be THAT much. $1,000 a month would go a long way toward having memberships at multiple gyms, and would leave you with $88,000 of your $100K. Even if he paid people $20K per year to represent and train him on top of that figure, $68K per year is nothing to sneeze at, and can give someone a comfortable living. I'm sorry, I think anyone who made $100K+ in a year and whines about being broke and barely able to afford food deserves to be made fun of. (Unless they have some other unfortunate circumstance of course). Time to down-size, playa. Sell your BMW, Escalade, Benz, etc and get a nice reliable Honda. Move to a smaller house in a more affordable area. Maybe cut back on the high grade reefer a bit. I see no valid excuses except sheer stupidity.

Watch what you say here boyz, Cage Potato has a policy of editing and banning people who say things they don't like in the comments page. Ah the art of journalism, Joe McCarthy style. So sad. My prediction: this post won't be up long at all either.

also dundas tends to sign his posts.

Do we really need to have an Internet fight? I'll point out again that my criticisms and light ribbing of you are nowhere near as bad as most. Just sayin.
steampunk22- October 7, 2010 at 9:05 am

I think he might be. Probably on account of confusing me with a 12 year old girl. Zing!

I thought I said I didn't have to? I assume they're Dundas' when they aren't filled with backlash. Even AFTER I've posted on them. ;)

I take home way less than $100,000 and am able to support myself, my wife (who is a stay at home mom), and my five kids. We live in a five bedroom house, have plenty of hobbies, eat three meals a day and live pretty comfortably.I wonder what percentage of Nick's purse goes to Cesar Gracie and the gym. IIRC ATT, BTT and Nova Uniao take a percentage off the top of their fighters' purses, which was why Nogueira said he left BTT.I interviewed Greg Jackson a few years ago and he told me he doesn't charge his guys a dime. Not sure if that's changed but would be interesting to dig up how much these guys hand over to their teams/coaches.

@Steampunk. I thought you said you don't check who wrote articles when you comment. ;)

I've never made 100K in a year and I am able to put food on the table for myself, my wife, and 2 kids. Plus I pay taxes, pay for health insurance (which costs me $10,200 per year post-tax money), etc, etc, etc like everyone else. I'm even able to buy things other than food, like clothes, entertainment, camera gear, toys for the kids, etc, etc, etc. I even own my own aircraft. The thing is, smart people know how to live within their means. I don't know what kind of lifestyle Mr. Diaz is living, but my guess is that it may be a little more posh than it should be. His problems are a) California has a high cost of living, b) drug problem, and c) he's probably on the mental level of Karl from Slingblade. I want to know what kind of car he drives. He spends all his money on food? Mustard and buscuits... Mmmmm hmmmmm...

I think he is hitting on you steamy.
steampunk22- October 6, 2010 at 10:53 pm

I'm actually quite nice to Dundas, you realize.

Very true. Stockton ain't exactly Darfur. Or worse, Detroit.

Mike Russell- October 6, 2010 at 9:25 pm
What would I blame you for, Steampunk? Incessantly typing winky faces after every smarmy post you write like a 12-year-old girl isn't THAT bad.You aren't a 12-year-old girl, are you?
Harold_Howards_Gnar_Face- October 6, 2010 at 8:07 pm
@Amsterdam, is that you nate?
Seoul Brother- October 6, 2010 at 7:31 pm
@fatbellyfrank: I couldn't have said it any better, my brother. What's funny here is NOT that Nick "Mas Puto" Diaz indulges in the green sticky icky. What's funny here is that he either acts surprised at his lack of resources or that he's looking for sympathy for his lack of resources.

There are lots of other people around the world that have it a lot worse off than Li'l Nicky.
munche- October 6, 2010 at 7:04 pm
@fatbellyfrank: Well, my buddy from Stockton who's met Nick a bunch of times says he's a complete dick. He said Nate is alright tho.

But the fact is they get poked fun at because they do an awful lot of shit worth poking fun at. I think they have pretty thick skin, they can handle it
steampunk22- October 6, 2010 at 6:26 pm
^^Agreed, sir.
fatbellyfrank- October 6, 2010 at 5:50 pm
@ munche, from my perspective its not that theres any issue with callin em potheads, a spade is a fucken spade, its just that the theme of the articles seems to be really anti Diaz, not anti pot head, they are what they are and some of us have no problem with that, just let em go, if they succeed , they've succeeded there way, if they fuck up, they fucked it up all by themselves.
The Diax boys will never be poster boys for MMA because their not that sort of people, their just a couple of Stockton boys who discovered they can make a dollar from fighting so they go for it.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that the GSP's of this world will always make the most of opportunity due to their intelligence, savvy and appreciation of the bigger picture. The Diaz's of this world will always just be homies who make a buck out of fighting and thats as far as it goes for them, each to their own, but I dont see why should be held up for ridicule just because they are what they are.
Just my opinion
steampunk22- October 6, 2010 at 5:45 pm
Hurry up @MRuss, blame it on me! ;)
munche- October 6, 2010 at 4:52 pm
So wait a minute, let me get this straight, CP commenters are upset that CP called Nick Diaz a pothead?

What the fuck has happened around here?
DARKHORSE06- October 6, 2010 at 4:35 pm
I love the "Im a fighter, I thought thats who I was supposed to be, how I was supposed to act" or whatever comment.

This guy is fucking awesome and right.

ND your the man, fuck those haters!
Kimbos Bread- October 6, 2010 at 4:19 pm
Nick smoked "the pot".
Charming Charlie- October 6, 2010 at 3:48 pm
Nick Swardson's Smoke Weed Everyday is a perfect encapsulation of how Nick Diaz may expect the world to work.
Seoul Brother- October 6, 2010 at 3:47 pm
Nick and Nate Diaz are both supreme trolls... who can fight. They lack any understanding that they are examples whether they want to be or not, and if Li'l Nicky wants to get more ducats, then maybe just fucking maybe he could get better sponsorships than EZ-Wider, Bambu, and shout outs from potheads if he acted like a man instead of a punk bitch playing a man.

Christ, GSP certainly has acted like a douchebag, but he's cleaned up so much that Under Armour and Gatorade love his ass. The NY Times writes about him in the context of fashion shows. He's raking in a lot of dough outside of the octagon because he's an example.

What the fuck does Li'l Nicky expect - money and Subway foot longs waiting for him at a presser? It's hard enough to see a fighter like Mark Kerr fall, and I'd love to see a talented fighter like Nick Diaz rake in a lot of dough and -gasp- smile, but I'm not waiting for a loser like him to cowboy the fuck up.
fatbellyfrank- October 6, 2010 at 3:43 pm
Ho Hum another day another Diaz hatin article, gettin a bit tired, whoever's got the grudge against em
howardsternspenis- October 6, 2010 at 3:12 pm
how someone could have money issues making 100k + a year is beyond me. i make roughly 25k a year and i have more than enough money to pay for rent, light bill, cable bill, internet bill, gas bill, groceries for 2 people, food for 2 cats, 1/8th of weed @ 60 bucks per week with money left over to do whatever the fuck i want with it. also, its worth mentioning that i live in chicago, the city, not the suburbs..not the cheapest place in the world to live. just goes to show you that people with shit for brains cant manage money in the least bit. also i would like to add that CP gives it these 2 idiots because they make it so easy by being the absolute dumbest fighters in any mma organization.
