(#16: Whatever the hell this is.)
By Brian Lopez-Benchimol
There’s no denying the effect that UFC President Dana White has had on the world of mixed martial arts. Though it was no singlehanded effort, White has overseen the organization’s rise thanks to the strength of his fighters and partners in Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta.
However, looking back at his historic career, there are some confusing and questionable details that remain as stains in his otherwise successful tenure as President.
From verbal gaffes to questionable signings and regrettable firings, BleacherReport.com/MMA has the list right here. If you think they missed any, let us know in the comments section…

I don't know if I share the same about Coleman, he is stone cold, but his age shows after the first round. If he was used as a plug for FREE fights, that would work for me....but not for the $50 bucks. The same holds true for Tito....and I would like to see Coleman have a shot at fucking up Tito.
.
As I understood Pride, it was riddled with corruption much like the other promotions - yet from what I know about Japan, this corruption was without a doubt tied to the Yakuza.
.
As for the Diaz debacle, I firmly believe that Dana was well aware of the GSP injury long before he made the switch by dumping Condit to step child status, and bringing in the mismatched BJ Penn.
.
Damit TM. I read your first post and had to agree - call an ace an ace, and a spade a spade.
.
Then I read your second post, and blushed.
Come on brah, cagepotato is a great MMA-site. I love how it doesn't take everything so damned seriously. Somebody described it as snarky, and that's quite accurate :D
BEST decision DW ever made. I only wish he would have also made Nick wait until after the Condit fight to try again. Nick is an unprofessional punk who got what he deserved. I wish they would just cut his ass altogether.
I guess the site is basically done. At least have the pride to go away on your own terms instead of continuing this feeble, withering decay.
15) Heh
14) Okay, that's legit funny
13) Um, I don't know, as a one-time freakshow fight thing I didn't think it was a problem, and it gave Couture a win. Not that I'm eager to see a repeat.
12) I have zero problem with Coleman coming back and taking a few fights. Even if he wasn't Top 15, he was still able to compete at a very high level so I have no trouble with him cashing a few paychecks here.
11) Yeah, re-signing Baroni was questionable, although ultimately pretty minor, considering they used him as undercard fodder for prospects.
10) I don't see what the big deal is here. Dana White gave Parisyan one final chance, and Parisyan did show up to the fight and promptly got his ass kicked in a dark match, prompting him to get cut again. It's not like Dana was relying on him for PPV buys that time, he was in a dark match.
9) Ortiz has been a useful stepping stone for a number of different fighters, saved a main-event that was on the verge of collapsing, and had an incredible comeback when he choked out Ryan Bader. Tito's re-signing has made the company money and done nothing to harm them as far as I can tell.
8) Yeah, this was awful. Odd only Fitch is mentioned. I would say Dana White cutting all of AKA in a tantrum after they refused to sign over lifetime likeness rights for video games for no compensation whatsoever is in the Top 3 for sure.
7) This is a really tough call, considering Pride still had no television deal in the Japanese market, without which it was basically a money pit. I might defer to someone who knows more about the specifics but it's hard to blame Dana here.
6) Yeah, I'm not really fond of what they've done with Strikeforce, better matchmaking aside. They should have done one of three things: folded the promotion and taken everyone worth taking (a bit over 40 guys still last I checked); taken everyone worth taking and leaving it around as a feeder org w/ WMMA; just leaving it as is with the occasional lateral move for a dudes at the end of contracts who _aren't_ champions. Picking off the four most marketable champions and Cung Le is kind of neutering it just kind of making a mockery of it.
5) Wrong list. This is one of the better things they've ever done. Shelby is world's better.
4) Uh I guess I'll take BR's word for this one. This would fit better on a list of 15 Stupid Things Dana White Has Done In No Particular Order. If bad music choices on a B-show was really the 4th worst decision Dana White has ever made then he'd be some sort of promoter-savant super-genius.
3) Uh, no? Has BR seen some of the other buyrates this year? This is not that bad a number (better than the 8 out of first 13 PPVs so far this year in fact), and putting Faber in a main-event is great for a burgeoning division. It did a lot better than either of Frankie Edgar's last two PPVs, and I don't see his name on this list.
2) Yeah that was mistake. I can't blame Dana for giving it a shot though. He even quipped at the post-fight press conference that "yeah, [the fans] blew it." Kind of a petty choice.
1) Er... Diaz got punished for being an irresponsible manchild. He didn't get fired, and he didn't leave the title mix. This seemed like an entirely appropriate decision. And if you're only looking in hindsight as far as what it did for the company, it actually helped them when GSP got injured. I don't see how this was a bad decision either way.
So yeah, this list was fun to read but pretty dumb.
There are like two or three indisputably legitimate entries here. The rest is things that are either minor shit, comedy entries, or things that are either questionable or actually good moves.

nope.
Plus most of that list was just wrong. Sure Toney, and the re-signings type stuff I agree were bad decisions, but Shutting down Pride? GOOD move. Stripping Strikeforce? GOOD move. Faber/Cruz headline? GOOD move. ...and the list goes on and on.
I agree that article pretty much sucked.
lol
